But Houston, we need to talk about bathrooms. First, the good. Rice Village is a really cool shopping area. There's a great mix of stores, restaurants, coffee, and other places, and you can easily spend a few hours walking around. It's busy, lively, and definitely worth visiting. Parking, however, is congested and annoying. There are paid lots around the area, but when it's busy, be prepared to hunt for a spot and then walk. Honestly, that part doesn't bother me that much. It's a popular shopping district. I get it. What I don't get is the almost complete lack of accessible public bathrooms. You have an area filled with stores that would happily let you spend hundreds or even thousands of dollars, but apparently asking for somewhere to pee is a bridge too far. Maybe businesses are worried about people coming in just to use their bathrooms. I understand there are legitimate issues businesses have to deal with. But there has to be some middle ground where the person buying expensive pants can also pee when nature calls. Pro tip: Starbucks has a bathroom. Of course, it was locked, there was a line, and you needed a code. At that point, finding a bathroom in Rice Village started feeling like a side quest. When you're standing in a shopping district with a parking lot full of $100,000-plus vehicles, surrounded by high-end stores and restaurants, and everyone is apparently on a scavenger hunt for a toilet, something has gone terribly wrong. Come on, Houston. Do better. Still loved Rice Village. Still recommend going. Great shopping, great food, and a fun place to spend an afternoon. Just use the bathroom before you get there.

I visited the Marq-E recently to attend an IMAX screening of director Ryan Coogler's movie…read more"Sinners," which was shot primarily for presentation on IMAX 70mm screens. Initially, only 8 U.S. theaters were showing it in 70mm format. And the only such IMAX screen available in Texas is located in Dallas, Texas - at the Webb Chapel theater. To make the film, Coogler utilized two different aspect ratios - the ultra wide 2.76: 1 (Ultra Panavision) and 1:43:1 (IMAX). I think the former is the more rare of the two, and the latter is more standard. Marq-E just has basic IMAX, and I think it is kind of perplexing as to why there are no 70mm screens in Houston or Austin. Even so, I really enjoyed watching the film at Marq-E. The acoustics, seating, atmosphere, vibes and visual presentation were all top notch. I also thought the theater was really clean. The only down side, for me, is I wanted a hot pretzel and none were available. (Haha!) Overall, though, this is a theater I would definitely recommend.

It's a year round event and it shifts from morning time in the winter months and to the evening in the summer months. Most of the businesses along 19th street open up late and it's a big festival of sorts. There are artists from physical art to musical art performing. Lots of little booths and tables to display their craft. Overall, it brings this whole area to life and is worth visiting at least once. Gives you something different to do on a date.

The entire back wall is covered with beautiful mural designed by Local Artist Thomas Tran. It would take about 2 minutes to view the mural but you have to stand on the parking lot in Hmart side. Here goes the detailed version! I was looking for some classy-looking thank you cards. I went to several stationary shops nearby : Anvil Cards, The Space Montrose, H.E.B (yes not a stationary shop but they sell cards), Whole Earth (somehow I was hoping this outdoors gear shop would sell cards), Trader Joes, and even B&N. Sadly they all failed me. Don't get me wrong, these are all fantastic shops for unique and hilarious cards (especially Anvil and The Space Montrose). They just don't sell what I was looking for. So I stumbled upon this shop and my oh my they swept me off my feet! For you drivers out there, they have PLENTY parking spaces for tiny cars and SUVs! First when I walked in, I was greeted by a lovely elder lady (sadly I didn't get her name) who asked me what I was looking for and immediately went to look for them. She obviously knew what she was doing, she zoomed from one corner to another and pulled out several cards for me. Then suddenly I heard little happy taps and low and behold they have a little lap dog with a red sweater named CeCe!!! CeCe will make sure to sniff your shoes and greet you as you walk in. The best greeter in town if you ask me. I proceeded to look around on my own because I like to explore. The ladies in store were very thoughtful and knew that so they let me roam. If you are looking for high quality cards, this is the place! They have 100% cotton cards, Downton Abbey stationary sets, embossed and debossed cards, quill cards, leather notebooks, etc. Also this would be a good place to get cards for your wedding or baby showers. I heard they also do personalized Christmas cards. Now if you are hoping to get a good bang for your bucks, this will not be the place. Before this store I got a pack of 50 average-quality cards for $10 on Amazon. Here, $10 would get you 3-5 cards. But you do get what you pay for since they are very nice paper and feel amazing when you write (especially with a fountain pen). I took photos of the 2 boxes that I bought. Both are very very pretty and I'm very happy with them. Also, they take Apple Pay!!!

Other than that, there are a few other major chain stores and it's not a bad place to shop by any means.

This is a cute little strip mall that seems absolutely brand-new, and it's located near the Galleria. It's not bad at all, and I think they did a good job designing it and locating it - as long as you're heading west on San Felipe, because if you're heading east it's a little bit hard to get in and out of, but not too bad nevertheless. Chipotle traffic takes up most of the parking lot but that's their problem.

Pearland Town Center is an open mall maintained really well…read more It has clothes, shoes, food, book store and more In food, it has Italian, Mexican, Korean, Street carts, juices, ice cream, cupcakes and the list goes on. In clothes there is H&M, Macys, Dillards, Forever 21 and so much more. There are even computer repair shops, Sunglass hut etc etc etc . Everything you need to live a decent life including apartments are found abundantly in and around this center. I am aware Macys has an EV charging center, but not sure where the others are. Today- 13th Aug, on account of Indian Independence Day coming up soon, at the Town Center there was a cultural fest organized by the locals. There was specifically Indian food, classical dance , chess competitions, art competitions and various vendors including a saree tying booth. A pretty cool evening and a nice gathering to commemorate in our small way the 76th year of Indian Independence. Happy to be here.
