Despite right knee and hip replacements since my prior appointment which I clearly explained to De. Rock, he criticized me for providing this history by claiming that it had nothing to do with my recent foot pain and that the problem was totally due to mechanics. Therefore, by adding height to my heel, the problem would resolve. It didn't help a sore toe on the other foot which he ignored. Treating me like a bad child ends my relationship with him. read more

This was my first surgery and I would not have gone through with it with any other doctor. It was Dr. Rock or nothing! I had heard that he was amazing from two friends and set up a consultation. During the initial consultation he showed me x-rays of my bunions (on both feet) and explained what my options would be. There was never any pressure from him to proceed with surgery but once he explained that bunions get worse over time, I knew that I didn't have a non-surgical option that made sense for me. The operations took place two weeks apart just about one year ago. I didn't experience ANY pain after the operations. I had confidence because knew I was in great hands and Dr. Rock checked on me via text very regularly. I rarely ever write a review for a service that I have received. However, Dr. Rock is an exceptional surgeon and person. I had visited 8 surgeons to get an opinion on my bunion that has been bothering me for 17 years. As soon as I met Dr. Rock, I know he was my guy! I had given it up to God, I'll die with miserable and painful feet! Then a coworker told me about her painful bunions and the doctor that had treated her several years back. Enter Dr. Rock. This man (and his awesome office staff (Edie i'm talking to you) are about as close to perfection as it gets. I loved Dr. Rock's honesty, he tells you from the get-go, there will be discomfort, there may even be some pain but I'll always have solutions to provide. And darn if he wasn't dead on right. I had both bunions operated in December '18, one week apart. Everyone told me i was nuts to do so and that I would regret doing it. I'm telling all of you out there with those oh so painful feet, I regret NOTHING (& I'm a chicken when it comes to pain). Dr. Greg Rock is amazing!!! From the moment I met him I was very comfortable with having him do my procedure. He took his time to explain everything about my foot condition, the procedure and what to expect. Everything was as he explained it would be. The first 2 days after my surgery there was no pain at all. Later there was some minor aching but nothing that would require pain killers. Dr. Rock texted me every day to check up on my recovery and answered any questions or concerns that I may have. Dr. Gregg Rock is absolutely the best podiatrist I have ever known, i say this from personal and professional experience as being a cardiologist myself, I researched and consulted at least half a dozen podiatrists across several healthcare systems in New York for my bunion. Not only did he explain my surgical procedure very well, he was very accessible via text message throughout my perioperative period and follow ups. The surgical result was not only excellent from a cosmetic viewpoint, but the pain from my bunion also resolved within two months of recovery. In fact I came back from a holiday where I walked almost 8 miles a day being only 9 weeks out from my surgery. His minimally invasive bunion surgery let me walk around the house within 72 hours, walk around with a special surgical boot for four weeks, walk around with large wide front sneakers after four weeks and normal shoes after nine weeks! I had bunion surgery the first time a while back, however the doctor did what is commonly in the medical world known as 'bump and run' so the problem was made worse. Basically the doctor needs to reset the bone, but instead of doing so this doctor shaved down the bone. Long story short, my first experience was extremely painful due to scar tissue build up, and I was forced to wear a cast for a month plus. I was referred to Dr. Rock by my primary care physician who stated that Dr. Rock was also a personal friend. During my consultation Dr. Rock not only thoroughly explained my situation, but he also explained the implications regarding my insurance. How many doctors actually take the time to explain the out of pocket costs??? NONE ... so for this reason alone I decided to give him a shot. The surgery was night and day different from my first surgery. Recovery is extremely important to Dr. Rock, so all patients are required to walk out after the surgery is completed. It's gonna be painful, but after being trapped in a cast for more than a month previously I totally understood why. There was no scare tissue and I was in sneakers in less than 2 weeks. No to mention I live in a 5 story walk up and I'm an athlete, so mobility is extremely important. The bottom line is there are a lot of Podiatrists out there who will sell you a bag of rocks, so you have to know what questions to ask. I'm back in heels and back on the court after my surgeries, and I have no pain. I have had such embarrassing moments being a woman and having bad feet. No cute sandals in the summer time, hiding my feet for years. I am 46 now and finally said enough of this. I reviewed a lot of doctors, and honestly Dr. Rock seemed to be the best. March 6th, 2015 I did my right foot surgery, sent with a cane and a black shoe. I got home and I really had no pain, so I decided to do the left the following week. So my right foot had a bunion and a hammertoe on the second toe, my left had a bunion and 2 hammertoes, 2nd and 3rd toe. Since having my second foot done, no pain! I am truly happy. In getting my left foot done, Dr. Rock changed the dressing on my right foot, and said it looked great. I can't wait to see my new feet which I will be in a sneaker on March 26th for the right one I had done first. Dr. Rock truly ROCKS! He texted me regarding both of my feet. I had a question about the numbness and he responded right away. He truly is a great person, I would recommend him to anyone, including my daughter who has a bunion on both feet. I cannot say enough good things about foot surgeon Dr. Gregg Rock. My husband is a surgeon, so I was over-the-top picky about finding the right surgeon to address my bunions and hammertoes. After a year of searching for a talented, experienced surgeon whose career focused on treatment of hammertoes and bunions, I found Dr. Rock: the consummate professional (detail-oriented, direct, straight-shooter, compassionate), outside-the-box-thinker, incomparable diagnostician, ahead-of-the-curve/state-of-the-art foot doctor who combines engineering and human approaches to solving foot problems. He looks at the foot as a machine with many functions in and of itself AND as a machine which functions as part of the entire body. He pays attention to patients' concerns and expectations in order to arrive at an optimal treatment plan -- a plan that has the greatest likelihood of success while also fitting in with a particular patient's lifestyle. AND, he's a quick-on-his-feet surgeon with excellent hands. I am a 60-year-old woman whose long-term bunions had progressed to the point that I couldn't even wear a sneaker with a wide toe box. The hammertoes became an issue more recently, making it even more difficult to wear shoes. Other doctors with whom I had consulted, told me I needed to have very aggressive surgery (Lapidus procedure), or wear hard casts for months (doing the second foot 3 months after the first foot - I'd be recovering for a YEAR). At my initial consult with Dr. Rock, he first recommended non-surgical approaches. I told him I was sure I was ready for surgery NOW. And by the end of the consult, I was VERY sure HE was the right doctor for me. He had performed a thorough examination, taught me about foot anatomy, reviewed different surgical approaches with me, and asked me about my expectations and concerns. After detailed discussion (which included information about why the aggressive Lapidus procedure was not necessary in my case), we came to a decision about my treatment plan. Dr. Rock had devised a unique surgical approach for each foot (because the hammer toe on my right foot needed to be shortened). But he was ready to adjust his course if the one-in-a-million unexpected situation arose during surgery. February 10, 2017, Dr. Rock operated on the bunion and hammertoe of my right foot. I walked out of the surgery center with a surgical bootie on that foot and a sneaker on my left foot. I followed his detailed written post-op instructions (which reinforced his continuously verbalizing those instructions). He texted me for 3 straight days post-op to tell me what to expect (again) and to find out how I was feeling. I had no pain. The anaesthetic foot block administered during surgery had gotten me over the period of time during which I would have experienced pain. February 17, Dr. Rock operated on the bunion and hammertoe of my left foot. I walked out of the surgery center in 2 surgical booties. At 2 months' out, my right foot is feeling almost normal. By next week, I anticipate my left foot (which will be 2 months' out) will catch up. Brooks sneakers, Birkenstock clogs, and (maybe) Dansko clogs will be my go-to shoes for a while, as swelling continues to subside. And both feet are GORGEOUS! Dr. Rock cares about function, but he also cares about aesthetics - he has an artist's/sculptor's eye. In addition, he cares that his patients are back in the game of life as soon as possible. Thanks to doctor Rock, I will have my life back much more quickly than would have been the case had I gone to a different doctor. Dr. Rock was the third surgeon I consulted for bunion and hammer-toe surgery. My bunion was quite severe and bothered me most everyday. Buying shoes was becoming impossible At this writing I am just over two months post-op and I am Thrilled at the result. I can't stop looking at how beautiful my foot looks! Can't wait to show it off in the summer! I had always heard bunion surgery was excruciating, and a long recovery. My work requires long periods of standing. Dr. Rock was completely honest about what to expect in terms of recovery. I had No pain post-op. Dr Rock sends his patients home with enough local anesthetic in the foot to get you through the first few days. I was housebound and off my foot for 72 hours, but able to be up long enough to get to the kitchen and bathroom, important since I live alone. I took Advil and never needed the stronger pain killer he prescribed just in case. After that I wore my surgical shoe and was back at work in 10 days. It could have been much sooner if I had a desk job. After 5 days I went to a restaurant in my neighborhood and was even able to exercise. I used a stationary bike (with surgical shoe) and did upper body work. I wore the surgical shoe for about four weeks post-op but I managed to get around in it and work without a problem. Dr. Rock is one the most competent, kind and commutative doctors I have ever had. He is and was always available via text. His instructions post-op are very specific, I think following them to the letter aided and speeded my recovery.I will have Dr. Rock do my other bunion on my left foot, (which is not nearly as bad as the one he just did) sometime this year. I am so grateful to have found him. After my first consult with Dr. Rock I immediately I scheduled surgery.he was recommended by my friends sister who had a great experience with him. The other two doctors I had seen seemed competent for sure, but a bit too "slick'"which made me uncomfortable. My bunion surgery and hammer toe surgery, done in a surgical center on 86th & Fifth, were about as easy, quick and painless as it gets. He had the recovery steps down to a science, telling me when it might get uncomfortable and what to do about it. Dr. Rock is very professional, personable, and empathetic with great great bedside manner and over 20 years of experience And amazingly -- he texts you after surgery to find out how things are going, and doesn't stop caring until you're healed. His office is really helpful in processing billing and insurance paperwork, so even that is seamless to the patient. When I went back with another foot injury that resulted in a strange collection of fluid on the top of my foot, he spent a lot of time diagnosing the issue and discussing treatment options. Bunion surgery 3/13/14. Magic! Not only walked out of his surgery ctr' not only drove myself home, but returned back to work a week later! No pain because he makes sure the worst days (day 1.2.3) you're 100% numb! Which deceives you to think you can run around but don't! Ice and elevate and like myself you will be in awe of Dr. ROCKS MAGIC! In and out of surgery in 30 minutes. Boot. Cane. No big deal.
