I was referred to this podiatrist for foot pain that I initially thought was a splinter. Imaging (X-ray and MRI) did not show a foreign body, and I was told there was nothing to be done. However, the issue continued to grow and became more painful. A dermatologist later diagnosed it as a plantar wart and began treatment. When I attempted to follow up with the podiatrist, I was told by the office (on the day of my appointment) not to come in and to instead see my primary care doctor. My primary care doctor also examined it and agreed that it appeared to be a plantar wart and proceeded with treatment, and was confused why podiatry would not evaluate it. I was surprised by the lack of reassessment and the decision not to evaluate an ongoing and painful foot condition. I would have appreciated a more thorough follow-up or willingness to reconsider the diagnosis. read more

This was one of the most frustrating medical encounters I have experienced. I made a first time appointment for debridement of a keratotic lesion. A long standing issue related to my orthopedic history and typically managed by podiatry. Within seconds of the visit, I was told she does not treat callouses due lack of insurance reimbursement but is happy to take a look and talk to me. I declined consultation and plan to f/u with my ortho surgeon for a appropriate recommendation. Be careful to verify what treatments before scheduling an appointment with Jasmine Catalano, MS. Also if you have access to MyChart be sure to check her documentation. My experience was horrible which is a shame Mount Sinai typically has great providers. read more

Just left the office and can say that Dr. Catalano is the foot doctor you've been dreaming about. Her energy, smarts, kindness, and honesty is unlike any doctor I've been to. She could have her own Netflix special - she has so much personality, intelligence, and zest. I walked in with a multitude of foot problems and pain for a decade - bunions, Morton's neuroma, flat feed, achilles stiffness. The works! She watched my gait, did some stretches to test flexibility, and evaluated my feet. Within ten minutes, I'm on the path toward physical therapy, an ultrasound of both feet, and custom orthotics at a way cheaper price than most other places. She's honest about whether you need surgery, and approaches everything with humor and warmth. Cannot recommend this doctor to you more. 5 stars!!!!!!! read more

I made my appointment at 9:15AM, but obviously the wait has been so long that I had a time to download Yelp and make an Yelp account to write a review while waiting for Dr. Catalano. It's already 10AM, and still don't know if I will get to see her since I have a meeting at 10:30. They made me pay the copay upfront, so I guess it was smart on their part. I've had two appointments with Dr. Catalano so far and both have been great! She is warm, down to earth, and incredibly easy to talk to. She listens carefully and provides thoughtful recommendations. She is efficient, but never made me feel rushed. She seems to sincerely enjoy her work and brings a wonderful positive energy into the room. Strong knowledge and great communication! Dr. Catalano has added great value to my physical health and thus my life. I have gone to her with various foot and lower leg issues over the years and she has helped me to resolve them all as best as can be, including sending me to PT when PT was appropriate. I have come to trust her and pretty much let her convince me to do certain things that I had been stupidly resisting in the past. I say stupid, because it took evidence of damage to my own joints before I finally followed her advice, and since following that advice, my feet are feeling so much better. She has the patience to answer all of my questions, and tell me the pros and cons of each option she suggests to me when trying to repair me. I would recommend her without hesitation to anyone looking for a podiatrist. I believe that she will do her best to guide you to a better relationship with your feet like she has done for me. Let me add to the bastion of good reviews. My kids are cursed with ingrown toe nails (they got hubby's good looks but also his bad toe nails). My poor daughter is away at college for the first time and develops a painful ingrown situation. We found this practice- close to campus and rave reviews. She lives up to the hype per my daughter. I went to two other podiatrists before I found one who didn't seem to be phoning it in: Dr. Catalano. She is so into what she does, and so into helping you figure out what's wrong, and why and what can be done. I absolutely love her. She also referred me to a great guy for orthotics - he even made me ones I can wear with Vans. The only downside with that Mt. Sinai location is that everything in that office is done on an iPad, very little human interaction. This might be a Covid thing. Dr. Catalano is the best doctor I have ever been to, across any practice of medicine. Period. I have never had a doctor so passionate about their practice, or as enthusiastic about their subject matter. Dr. Catalano is brilliant, engaging, and through. After recently having to see another podiatrist while traveling, I came back to affirm my diagnosis with Dr. Catalano. She did a full exam, reviewed prescriptions I was hastily given before, and went through the treatment plan I had been told to follow. She was able to correctly diagnose my issue which had been missed before due to another doctor giving me a once size fits all response of putting me in a boot and asking me to get a superfluous prescription for what is basically expensive ibuprofen. Dr. Catalano was able to get me, excuse the pun, back on my feet and on the correct path without unnecessary medication or treatment. I wish ever doctor I went to had the same knowledge, compassion, and excitement about their work as Dr. Catalano. She is an exceptional example for the medical community. Arrived within 15 minutes of my appointment and was told that I couldn't see Dr. Catalano because I was more than 15 minutes late. I was NOT 15 minutes late, but they disregarded the ironclad proof I presented and made it seem like my fault that the doctor wouldn't see me: I explained to the nurse that the building receptionist had directed me to the wrong floor where I wasted time trying to checkin at their kiosk because they wouldn't let anyone checkin with the receptionists. Told her that at the correct floor, the front desk receptionist had directed me to checkin at the kiosk (a waste of time since the kiosk directed me right back to the front desk). After all of this, I sent the receptionist an email with my insurance information WITHIN the 15 minutes. They even charged me for the copay. I was then made to wait for twenty minutes before being called and taken to an exam room, after which I was told that the doctor refused to see me because I had been more than 15 minutes late. I showed her the email I had sent, told her the whole story, and she kept acting as if I had violated their policy and I was the asshole. I took time off work and paid for parking for this appointment and the doctor refused to uphold her own policy even with proof presented. After speaking to the doctor who couldn't be bothered to even show her face, the nurse tells me that she must uphold the policy (I'm about to rip my hair out after hearing that for the nth time) and anyway, the doctor doesn't have time because it's now thirty minutes past my appointment time. So, you check me in, charge me the copay, make me wait twenty minutes, take me to an exam room, claim I checked in late, then when I show you proof, you ignore it and tell me that "even if you weren't late, the doctor can't see you because it's past the time?" Way to treat your patients. I guess this is what you get with young doctors who treat their patients like a revolving door of income and schedule such tight appointments that they pick off any scheduled patient that they can. I'm sure she's nice when patients actually manage to see her (check out the other one star reviews on how long the wait usually is). You could chalk this up to poor office management. But the nurse made it adamantly CLEAR that it was the doctor's personal decision to cancel my appointment (as I'm sitting in the exam room. Who intakes a patient just to tell them that their appointment is cancelled? I guess they just didn't want to make a scene in the waiting room). Oh, and a couple who came in and checked in after me got to see their doctor before I did. They were probably riding the line of their fifteen minute window since we had the same appointment time, but their doctor, not Catalano, didn't make an arbitrary cancellation like she did. read more

Dr Catalano is very good at explaining your foot issue and takes her time in doing so. She's very personable, high energy and she LOVES feet, or so a PT at Spear once told me. Having seen her several times, I would have to agree. She takes a conservative approach to treatment; for example, rather than give me a corticosteroid injection where there was no time to get it done before a big hike I was doing, she counseled me to have an ultrasound of the foot first so she was absolutely sure where the issue was. So we waited and now we know that it was in fact warranted...and I just had the injection. It didn't hurt! She's great and I'm glad that as a New Yorker who's dependent on my feet, I have her in my corner! read more

I am not writing this review to dissuade anyone from seeing this podiatrist. This is her place of work, and it is of no value to me to affect her livelihood. I am writing this to ask Dr. Catalano to do better. Dr. Catalano loves feet. She genuinely gets excited about them. I have never met a doctor who had such enthusiasm and also who was so down to earth. Or at least she gave me this illusion the previous two times I did see her. I enjoyed coming to appointments and for small issues likes some toe tendonitis due to flat shoes, she was great. Other reviewers are correct in that she is one of a kind and makes you feel comfortable. I came to her in October 2020 with inflamed bursas on both of my heels. She immediately gave me a cortisone shot to reduce the inflammation, an RX for PT w/ a DX of insertional achilles tendonitis, and told me in 1-2 weeks, I would be able to exercise again. 4 months later...I am not exercising again. I used to be an athlete and movement is a big part of my identity. It's been a long and frustrating 4 month journey that still continues, but what was most disappointing was the follow up care or lack thereof that I received from Dr. Catalano. After I received the shot, I began having pains in my ankles and low calf. I couldn't walk for more than 15 minutes without pain. I was able to walk with no issues prior to this shot. Meanwhile, I had been going to PT. My therapist conducted a very thorough evaluation of my foot pronation, gait, stability, strength, and hip balance. Given my clinical presentation, she asked to collaborate with Dr. Catalano. I gave her my permission, and she told me she waited for two hours on hold trying to get in touch with Dr. Catalano and finally had to hang up. She asked me to get in touch with the doctor and ask the doctor to contact her. I sent Dr. Catalano a "MyChart" message with my therapist's contact info and asked her to contact my PT. Dr. Catalano never contacted my PT. At this point, I began to question my confidence in Dr. Catalano. I had pains I didn't have before this shot, and she hadn't engaged in care collaboration with my PT who had seen me many more times than Dr. Catalano had. My PT had more relevant clinical information and evidence regarding my condition that could help point Dr. Catalano in arriving at a better differential diagnosis. Nevertheless, I had trusted Dr. Catalano in the past so I went back to her. She had never led me astray before. This time, I brought her my PT's business card and she asked if she could keep it. She said she would call my PT. Dr. Catalano informed me of her hypotheses of what may be going on (possible drainage of fluid or perhaps microtears) and recommended an X-Ray and MRI. I followed the doctor's orders and complied. Her paperwork states that you must schedule an appointment to go over the MRI results 3 days after the MRI, so I did that too. It clearly states, "Will not go over results over the phone." She also never called my PT, again. The day before the appointment to go over the MRI results, I received a call from her medical assistant, Candy. Candy stated it would not be necessary to come into the appointment tomorrow because my MRI results (that she gave me over the phone) were inconclusive/unremarkable. Dr. Catalano did not make this call herself. Dr. Catalano did not make herself available to me to answer any follow up questions about my "phantom" condition. If the imaging and science says nothing is wrong, then clearly nothing is wrong, right? Though my pain and decreased ability to walk and run had not gone away. The Dr. couldn't offer me any explanations as to my pain, AND had her medical assistant make this call for her instead. I felt betrayed, let down, and dropped by my doctor whom I had trusted. I think what is important to keep in mind here is that as much as I would have loved to solve or have an answer to my condition, that's not what was the most disconcerting. Worse, is that a provider just leaves you out in the cold worse off than when you came in for you to figure it out on your own. Had this provider called me herself and gone over my results and tried to brainstorm a treatment plan or made a referral to perhaps someone with more expertise than her, it would have been braver and had more integrity than the way this was handled. She even could have had me come in and done another exam to see what was better/worse/or same from my initial visit. I feel like she just froze and got scared. Again, I ask that this doctor do better for future patients. Don't do this to your patients. It's OK if you don't know the answers. You're human, please just say that. Your patients come to you with trust and confidence, and just flinging them off is not right. At this point, my PT has hung in the trenches with me. She believes I have cuboid syndrome which does not show up on imaging. Had Dr. Catalano dug a little deeper and collaborated, maybe we could have gotten here sooner. read more

I arrived 15 minutes late due to an expected subway problem, checked in through kiosk, and then was told after waiting for 30 minutes in the reception area appointment has to be rescheduled. Receptionist said it was a 30 minute appointment as a new patient and they couldn't fit me in - office manager said no only 15 and it was over before I arrived. Miscommunications galore. Dr. Catalano is a very good doctor; however, her office and staff are THE WORST AND MOST DYSFUNCTIONAL MEDICAL OFFICE I HAVE EVER EXPERIENCED. When you call, you can expect to be on hold for 10 minutes or more, only to then be disconnected as soon as someone picks up. And this will happen over and over and over again. It's unbelievable. I don't know how it happens so often, but it does. They will then transfer you to another extension so you can leave a message and you will immediately hear, "This mailbox has not been set up and can not take messages." So, you will call back, waiting on hold for another 10 minutes, only to be transfered AGAIN to that same mailbox that does not take messages. You will be transferred to that non-existent mailbox over and over again. How do they not know that extension doesn't take messages? You will leave a message asking to speak directly to the doctor, but it will be the assistant who will call you back and who will be completely incapable of answering your questions. So you'll ask the assistant to relay your message. Then the assistant won't call you back and you'll have to call over and over again (repeatedly being on left on held for 10 to 15 minutes), and then finally days later you'll be able to speak to the assistant (not the doctor) and the assistant will not have relayed your message properly and will give you an answer to a question you never asked. So, you ask again to speak directly to the doctor, but they will never let you. You can only ever speak to an assistant. So you try asking your question again. And again, you must call back repeatedly to try and get in touch with the assistant in order to get the reply. But, once again, is doesn't answer your question. This can drag on for over two weeks. You still haven't been able to speak to the doctor directly, and your message is being relayed by an assistant who isn't properly relaying your message. You have to wait days before you can even get back in touch with the assistant, and the answer you get isn't helpful and doesn't answer your question. So, you call to make an appointment only so you can get a chance to speak to the doctor in person just so that you can ask her your question. Once again being put on hold for 15 minutes, being disconnected, then calling back and being on hold for another 10 minutes just so you can make an appointment. And then when you're in the office you can expect to wait an hour or more past your appointment time to see the doctor. And, finally, when you have an appointment to then follow up on your MRI, you can expect them to lose, misplace or somehow not receive the MRI. So your whole time is wasted. Then they say they'll call you to reschedule when the MRI is found, but you don't hear back from them. The whole thing is a giant, ridiculous mess. Dr. Catalano is very good at her job, and she's really a lovely person with a great bedside manner. But the office is a reflection on the doctor. And this is one messed-up, chaotic, bumbling office of fools. It's not worth the anxiety. Find another doctor. read more

She gave me a quick treatment that provided immediate relief and was straightforward about what I could do to minimize problems in the future as my foot structure predisposes me to this issue. Dr. Catalano is as great as everyone says! Caring, patient, honest, & funny - she's one of those doctors where you're actually a little sad when she diagnoses/treats you so well that you don't have an excuse to return to see her. If you have foot pain, it's very likely that the problems stem from elsewhere (for me, very tight hip flexors are a big culprit), and Dr. Catalano quickly saw that and helped me understand the root of the discomfort and how I can fix it. I've heard too many stories of podiatrists that err on the side of prescribing (and selling) custom orthotics, where Dr. Catalano advised against them as she didn't think they would provide much relief for my pain/issue. I'll certainly be recommending her to everyone I know that is struggling with any kind of foot pain or issues! read more

I went to see Dr. Catalano because I had multiple fractures in my foot. She has a great bedside manner which was a source of comfort for me and gave me a lot of confidence in her. She anticipated some of my questions and concerns and addressed them before I even asked and she also answered my other questions to my satisfaction. I went to her after a podiatrist told me I would need surgery and I had read online that she is extremely cautious in recommending that route. And straight up, the first thing she told me was that I would not need one. Dr. Jasmine Catalano is a gem in the Podiatry world. I am very pleased​ to have been seen by her. My first opinion of her is that she is not going to recommend a procedure​ for the money as many other podiatrists​ would from my experience​. She is the fourth Podiatrist that I've seen for my foot condition. Two of the ​three podiatrists​ recommended surgery of removing the sesamoid and she strongly recommended​ against the surgery because it would cause many more problems than I currently​ have. She stated that I would not be able to run again if I went along with the surgery. She is nothing​ but a gem and I highly, highly​ recommend her if you want someone who is highly skilled and has a strong passion in their craft​ and gives you nothing but an​ honest opinion without the lure of dollar signs waving in front of the ethical professional opinion​ for their patients. When you have a conversation with her about your condition you will see what I am referring to. It is rare that I would give a glowing recommendation as I have here. This is a very strong recommend!
