Walking Peacock Lane this season brought that feeling rushing back. Neighbors, families, couples, kids, all moving slowly side by side, bundled up, sharing space, sharing smiles, sharing the moment. House after house was lit beautifully, each one with its own personality. My favorite this year was the Home Alone house, playful, nostalgic, and impossible not to smile at. But what made the night truly special was hearing live music from neighbors, joining in caroling with complete strangers, watching families take photos in front of glowing homes, and realizing how rare and meaningful that kind of togetherness feels now. Peacock Lane is a reminder of what the season is supposed to be about. I left feeling happier and genuinely grateful. If you need a reason to believe in the holiday spirit again, this is it.

The first floor is more like a workshop with few things you can purchase, like really cool looking postcards. The second floor is where you will gasp over and over again. This sweet family built a fantastic wee-mini golf course around and between two pine trees in their side yard, and opened it up to the neighborhood and the public to putt around. It's a more successful version of Maria Bamford's Lady Dynamite park bench, inviting friends and neighbors to chat and play together in a fun and friendly environment. There are six holes and several custom-made statues and features that the owners worked with local artists to create. A locker near the gate holds the putters and balls, which you can access by calling an automated message machine. If you happen to be in the neighborhood and find yourself with a few minutes to spare, drop on by this itsy-bitsy-teeny-weeny-mini-putt-putt-golfing dreamy, and see if it doesn't give you a new definition of good neighbor, too.

In the pictures, though, they don't show it's direct location. If you're curious, it's on the side of someone's house, so in the website they really mean you "have to be quiet". Otherwise, I'm not sure if I'd call it a country club, and more a mini golf course.

There is always lots of traffic out here and as much traffic as I see. Traffic moves along. Well. Stay away from Boeing at 3pm. Almost every employee leaves work about that time. Monday through Friday. There isn't a lot to do in my neighborhood. There are a few bars. A corner store not to far away. Reynolds School has a Public Pool but my apartment also has a pool. Soooooo. The Freeway Entrance is nearby. That makes traveling better in this area. I have yet to find a decent restaurant that serves my favorites. Like..... Pho' or Cheap Sushi cuz I like to throw down on some Salmon. I'm also looking for Hawaiian Food. Broke da mouth kine bra. I look forward to finding new places in my new hood.

It's cool, we've got it. That being said, the Couve's Sausage Fest is an annual stronghold in the city. The Friday - Sunday party every first weekend of September has become the event in which the city welcomes the fall. The whole going is a cash only party for local families. There are carnival rides and games for the kids, a craft fair, awesome live (and usually local) music all day & everyday, and yummy Oktoberfest-esque food to munch on while you mill around all the activities. An extensive beer garden also takes up a good portion of the site with $4.00 domestics and $5.00 local micros on tap. While it is a little more spendy than the local happy hour, proceeds from the fest all go to the elementary school owned by the grounds that the event is held on. If you're looking for something to do regardless of age, but don't really like the huge crowds that county fairs tend to bring this is a nice alternative. If anything it's worth a few wholehearted laughs and a spin on the tilt-a-whirl on a pleasant late summer night. Hmm...maybe I'll get around to making a UYE in 2009.

If I'd have known this before hand, I'd have saved the trip, gone to Otto's or New Season's, picked up some GOOD sausage, and had my own sausage fest. Yeah, I said it. The only reason this gets 2 stars is that if you ignore the fact that it's supposed to be a sausage festival, then it's not a bad little carnival event. If you're into that, check it out next year - just don't expect anything special in the way of sausages.
