I am an Indigenous woman from a reservation in Northern Arizona. I am writing this review for POC and specifically Indigenous people who are considering joining the Cedar Moon Collective. I have voiced to CM how they have harmed previous POC and Indigenous people who were members of their collective and past members of SLA. My collective (SLA) and specifically myself have asked them to enact restorative justice and give up the power that Cedar Moon as a collective yields over this land project. As of writing this review nothing is being done to actually practice Land Back and equity between the dominant collective and Sacred Land Alliance. There is opportunity for CM to operate in good relation with the current Indigenous people on the land and the Indigenous community of Portland rather than tokenize and recruit Indigenous people who are experiencing housing insecurity in order to be able to triangulate us against each other. The use of brown people to maintain power over this land project and to deflect the accountability that is currently being asked is a colonial tactic of conquer and divide. If CM is asking you to be a part of their collective without making introductions to the current indigenous family who resides here; that should be a red flag and it's intentional. I am willing to have a conversation about my lived experience and the harms I have witnessed the dominant collective perpetrate against POC with anymore who is willing to to hear me out. AND you are more than invited to come visit, work and share in the pleasure of dirt under your nails most every weekend. One Sunday a month they have a tea and tour (call for details.) If it has been WAY too long since you scratched the horns of a Nubian goat, consider yourself informed. They gots Nubian goats out there. You can't hear the traffic, there are some innovative structures to oggle (esp that cob oven) and you can view a permaculture garden from the soil up. This intentional community of adults and children is doing their best to bring this land back to Eden. They are having some issues along the way, the wetland is beat up and is causing some probs in their waste water and sewer strategies, but that makes it real. It takes time to clean up what has been fallow for years. Oregon is (in)famous for its hippies. Come out and hang out with some delicious ones. And I am not just referring to the garden edibles.

I lived near this street for more decades than I care to admit (not in terms of living nearby, but…read moremore in terms of my own age). The best part of it was my grandparents lived one block down on 83rd and Flavel. It was a beautiful residential neighborhood at the time, and they kept an immaculate yard full of roses and dahlias. We even got to do the classic American thing of walking to the ice cream store with grandpa for cones. Memories like that can't be beat. After my grandparents died, my mom sold the house. The new owner rented it out and let it go to hell, and the surrounding neighborhood got pretty rough. I got to where I couldn't bear to drive by and see it. And that's pretty much the story of 82nd to me; rough and rougher and too much to make fun of. I haven't spent a lot of time over there for many years, but recently I've had to be out there for several reasons, and I've seen promising signs of change. PCC has built a new-ish campus on 82nd & Division that is very handsome. A lot of young couples have bought homes there as well, the most promising sign of all. There has been a lot of business development also. 82nd is never going to be anybody's idea of beautiful, but there's a lot of pride of ownership that can be felt. I was very sorry to hear that their Rose-Festival-sanctioned community parade was canceled because the Oregon Republican Party members were threatened with harm by opposing groups. That's so wrong. However, I think with all the changes I've seen lately that this is a community that has the strength to rise above. As for me, I got brave enough to drive by my grandparents' old house. One of those young couples (I would guess) had bought it and brought it back to its old glory. For all the good and bad and all the history, I had a good cry. The young woman in the front yard probably wwondered who that strange woman was, but I hope she somehow understood how pleased my grandparents would be to see all their hopes and dreams still being worked on just a block from 82nd.

But where are the Roses?…read more Last Monday, I was southbound on the #72 bus, after transferring from the Max Red Line at the NE 82nd Ave Station. And when I saw the sign for the "Hung Far Low" Chinese restaurant, it was time to get off at Division and transfer to the #4 bus. After this experience, I take it all back about occasionally needing a cab in Portland. I can really do public transit here! When I visit Portland, I try to explore a "cute" new neighbourhood each time. On this trip, that was NE Alberta, Nob Hill, and a huge chunk of Division (between 25th and my bus stop). On the other hand, the "Avenue of the Roses" is Portland's longest continual commercial strip (from the Clackamas County line to PDX). Every City has one, and even Sustainable Portland is no exception. Judging by my fellow bus travelers and the scenery going by, there's a lot going on here. And it's probably best that I was just passing through....

The…read morebathroom floor was wet from I don't know what, the stall I used did not have a lock and the door was spring loaded so that even if I tried to close the door it would shoot back at me anyways. The soap available to this bathrooms victims was a bar of soap, harboring who knows what germs and bacteria all over it. Safe to say, despite being relieved to relieve myself, I was not happy with my overall experience.

Gentrification is definitely going on. Their are always buildings going up on N Williams. Parking is hard there now, but its getting nice. Over on Mississippi there are mor good shops and restaurants. Interstate is lined with gas stations, a couple of grocery stores, restraints, older hotels, a bowling alley, Kaiser clinics and other businesses. It may not be pretty but its a work horse and gets a lot done. MAX runs down Interstate. Lots of little businesses cluster around PCC and The University of Portland campuses Finally St Johns is an old downtown with new businesses coming in, a great park and a beautiful bridge. There is more here. But these are the big ones. The area is changing fast. In areas you can really feel the energy.

There is nothing much on the street of…read moreinterest, except to connect a variety of neighborhoods, Many of the neighborhoods however, are interesting. The exception to prove the rule is the big roundabout at the intersection with Glisan which has a nice statue of Joan of Arc in the middle of it. That sits, in the leafy Laurelhurst neighborhood. Don't let the lack of attractions on the street keep you away. It is a good through street and along the way are some great neighborhoods. My favorite is Hawthorne with its eccentric residents, interesting shops and several good restaurants not to mention the Bagdad Theater which is one of the great old theaters!
