Located in Old Gretna, Gretna Gun has been around forever. They have a decent selection of new and used guns, but I find their prices a bit high. I was told by a regular customer that they will work on the price if you haggis, but I don't know if that is correct. Thy also sell your typical gun shop stuff. Holsters, magazines, ammo and parts are all available. They also have some old guns on display which is pretty cool. In the basement (yeah, I said basement), is a several lane shooting range. I forget what it costs, but it is reasonable. The range is nice, plus it is unique to be shooting underground. read more

If you are getting your gun shipped through FFL, DO NOT choose them as a dealer. I called multiple FFLS around the Gretna area and they all charge about $20-$25. I chose GGW as my FFL simply because they are the closest to me. I didn't bother to call before hand because I figured their transfer fee would be in the same ballpark. I called to check as my gun was scheduled to arrive soon. They told me their transfer fee was $40! literally twice as much as the competition. If I knew this I would've never had my gun sent there but now I know! they can forget about me buying anything else there! read more

Old school gun shop with a gun range down in the basement. They had a pretty good selection of pre-owned and some mil surp firearms. Most of their inventory seemed to be pistols. The staff were helpful and attentive and then left me alone to look at their selection in the cases. They did have some nice examples of notable mil surp pistols. read more

Did a ffl transfer through them for this handgun I purchased and I don't know whether it was their doing or the place I purchased it from, but the extra mag that came with my brand new handgun was swapped out for another caliber mag but of course the same brand gun cause they wanna be consistent right... Some straight bullish and I take blame in it also, being that I checked the gun but not unwrap and check that somebody didn't swap out the mag ‍, effin shady... Sad to say both these places wont see my or anyone I affiliate with business read more

Poor gun shop, very poor range. To put it bluntly: this is 10 minutes from my house and I could shoot here for free (I'm military), but I drive 1/2 hour and pay ~$15/hour to shoot at another range, because this one sucks. Note: It's been at least a year since I shot here, so it's possible they've improved and turned the place around, but I doubt it. Shop: stereotypical gun-shop attitude, employees are condescending and rude. As an experienced shooter, I can deal with it, but it's unpleasant and unnecessary. Prices are expensive, selection of firearms and accessories is moderate at best. Their transfer fees (what they charge if you order a firearm and have it delivered to their shop for processing) are the highest in New Orleans. Range: it's in the basement, which is fine, but it's poorly maintained. Individual lights on the lanes are always burnt out or broken. The carriers are bent and the cables sag horribly, which is a problem because the lane itself is half-height. By that I mean that when you are standing in the shooting position, the 'floor' of the lane in front of your is at waist-level because it's a basement so there's no need to dig out that whole area when all you need is a lane big enough for the target. The problem is that if you let the carriers sag, your targets will drag along the 'floor', which is exactly what happens here. If you want to shoot at mid-range, your target will be half folded up sitting on the ground. Oh, and their selection of targets is really poor, usually just 2 or 3 types. The other problem is the sound; being in a solid concrete basement, it is extraordinarily loud, by far the loudest place I've ever shot. I'm not a sound wimp, I've played and worked around some extremely large weapons before, but this is just annoyingly loud. I'm usually just plinking with a 9mm, and even that is noticeable and requires double hearing protection (ear plugs AND muffs). If someone else is shooting something large, it will be very distracting at the least. If the shop is test-firing a rifle that they are working on, forget about it. Mostly this is due to being in a solid concrete basement, but they have done nothing to help; there is no carpet, no foam, no sound pads, nothing at all to dampen the reverberations. As I said, it is, at the very least, annoying as hell. As I said above, I could shoot here for free, but I drive three time farther away and pay good money to shoot at Shooter's Club because this place sucks. read more

Beware trying to sell or trade a gun with these guys. Prices are high compared to other places for their guns in stock . They definitely don't know how to treat repeat customers. Their attitude has swung back to the no service , rude and unprofessional practices of the original Gretna Gun. Be careful here. read more

I don't do these, I really don't and it kills me to do it. Back in late November early Decemeber 2016 I sent in my grandfather's rifle that he obtained during WWII. I have the original providence of the rifle (his original approved requested from his commander to seize the weapon as a trophy). My grandfather has just passed and I was given this rifle by him. I literally received this rifle and went straight to Gretna Gunworks to have it looked at. While I was talking to one of the people behind the counter, and their armorer, I was berated for the rifle being dirty (I.e. it had been fired and not cleaned.) I continued to try to redirect their disapproval of the condition of the rifle, and tell them that all I wanted is to have the rifle brought back to serviceable condition so that it could be fired. I told them to do whatever they had to do to restore it. Its a important family heirloom for me. Then these two individuals began to doubt the providence, and not let it go. I assured them where it was obtained, but these two individuals were rude and condescending. After 30 minutes of this, they finally completed a work order. Now here we are March 1 of 2017. I have not received one phone call, not one update. I returned to the store only to be told that literally nothing had been done to the rifle, and that "it was still in parts". Here's the catch, I am an armorer of several different weapons platforms. The bolt action rifle that I brought in, I had taken down to look at its parts before I brought it in. It took all of 15 minutes. Literally from the most basic parts to complete assembly. I was told that it would take "some time to get it fully reassembled." This is a lie and unfortunate. So long story short, I brought in a rifle, it was never looked at, the staff treated me poorly and were condescending to me, and I will have to take the rifle to another gun store to have it restored. I am a little saddened by Gretna Gunworks treatment of me and this very important rifle to me. A little of the arthor; I served in the army, I was a cop for 11 years, and I am a firearms instructor, own a couple dozen firearms, and I have been trained as a armorer on several different weapons platforms to include the AR15, MK19, Glock, and Beretta 96 and 92 series. I have brought a firearm from Gretna Gunworks in the past, but will never buy from them again. And, when I finally came to pickup my rifle, I was lied to when they said, they are unable to make calls to followup with gun owners, and they made me pay for a gun cleaning, that I did not want. I asked why it took four months, and the guy told me, its acomplicated process and hunting season. Smh read more

Rude employees. Had a new Weatherby and Leupold brought in for sighting. They used seven high dollar rounds, scratched up the new scope, improperly mounted the scope, and the rifle was off 6" to the left at 100 yards. Not very good at their trade at all. I knew I shouldn't have trusted these guys because a friend told me he brought two nice pistols to get some work done and they completely messed them up. I would not recommend this place to my worst enemy, which makes me wonder why they are still around... read more

Stopped in after the new owners took over. Huge difference in customer service so if you were staying away check them out again. Bought one revolver, a couple Wilson combat mags for my 45 and also used them for a FFL delivery. I got free range pass with my purchases. Would have gave em a 5 star but FFL fee seemed a little high but online purchase prices on what I ordered was so low it didn't make a difference. Staff will work with you instead of seeming too bothered to give you any time. They do need to carry lowers for AR15's. read more

Purchasing a firearm especially for self defense is a self tailored decision that requires expert advise. Especially if you care about your safety and the safety of others. Having not touched a pistol in over 20 years I felt that the "big box" stores such as Academy, Dicks, etc. only have staff to show you the firearms and seem to have little knowledge about their products. So I went to Gretna Gun Works where Nick patiently worked with me to find exactly what fit my needs from concealment, caliber, quality, price, amount of usage, etc. I didn't get that embarrassing feeling that I was an "amateur" from him like you would get in most stores. But, naturally most men come into a gun store presuming they know it all and get exactly what they deserve. After making my final decision I then found out that Nick was a gunsmith well, that explains his vast knowledge in firearms and I felt blessed to have him at my service. You will not find gunsmiths at "big box" stores. I purchased my handgun and went directly down to their indoor range to shoot of its first 175 rounds and I can't wait to go back.
