Founded in Kansas in the 70's, there are some original members still performing. I remember hearing about the line-up for this season's free Wednesday night concerts but I didn't catch the dates. I happened to be walking my dog that evening and I could hear the music from a distance. So we showed up -- little dog and I -- and it was actually quite wonderful. I didn't know that Kansas was popular with bikers but dozens of motorcycles lined the street outside the Plaza. The crowd of several hundred people was very respectful. They even made room for us. Many people actually stopped to say hello to my dog. The band performed with a lot of energy and great interaction with the crowd. These were songs that I heard on the radio as I was growing up. They brought back many memories but there is no replicating the nuances and sound quality of live music. When they played their big hit, "Carry on Wayward Son," for their encore, the crowd erupted in cheers. Even the State Police who were providing security on the Plaza seemed be to enjoying the music. For anyone who was hungry, there were some food trucks serving up meals and fried dough. I hadn't planned on catching Kansas but I'm glad I did. It was a world class concert and it was free. It was underwritten by several local businesses. Kansas is currently on tour and individual tickets run as high as $200. In previous summers, I've caught other concerts on the Plaza including Pat Benatar and the R & B group, En Vogue, who prove that age is just a number. Although this year (2015) was only its third, the nascent festival surpassed all expectations. I am a huge country music fan (Tennessee born and bred) and went this year for the first time, along with my husband and 24 yo niece. We rented an RV (another first) and drove from Maryland to Hunter Mountain, NY. From the word go, the entire experience was amazing. We purchased Outlaw VIP tix with Premium RV camping, which allowed us to stay on site in our RV. The Outlaw tix gave us front row access to the stage for all shows, access to the VIP tents, etc. My husband and I made some amazing friends while hanging out in the VIP tents and will be meeting up with them again at the festival next year. Our niece loved the front row access to the concerts, but also liked that she could escape the sun, grab some food and drinks in the tents, and watch the show with us every so often. The food vendors were great, especially those from local businesses. Festival staff were amazing. HUGE kudos to those that produce this festival. Specifically, I would like to thank Steve, Paul, Kaitie, Pam, Jess and all the others such as the VIP tent servers (tent 2) that made this experience absolutely fabulous. We even purchased our tickets for next year before we left. In talking with my husband, we agree that this festival/trip rates as one of our all-time top vacations, which says it all considering we have traveled the globe extensively. The relaxed atmosphere, great music, good food, and super service resulted in a truly stress-free escape that we really needed. I have only one suggestion for next year: availability of water bottles and soda bottles in the VIP tents all three days would be super. They were available on the third day, which was great, and would love that availability throughout the festival.

Come here to try amazing food samples, and see live demonstrations. Games and crafts area for the kids. Music from local bands on the stage in front of park play house. Meet the people behind the food you buy from the co-op and other great local grocers. This was the second year in a row I attended the event and I am glad I did. It's free to get in and fun to try samples of high quality food. They had some different vendors here this year and some repeats. Some of my favs were: tierra farm store (coconut curry cashews) Also a woman who makes crepes that are to die for (forget her name) and zen butters (a nut butter company) not to mention Browns was there with their beer as was Chatham brewery. 5/19- 5/20/26 Visits:…read more -5/19/26: We came for the special Fredrick Church 200th b-day exhibit. The paintings were wonderful to view. I'm taking one star off. The male tour guide was underwhelming to say the least. He did admit that it was his first tour. I believe for Church's 200th birthday exhibition, a paying customer would've expected the guide to give an overview on the artist and a description of his paintings. All we received was a a person walking the group into a couple rooms. I even tried to question him about one of the paintings. He basically threw the question back at me. -5/20/26: We took an electric car tour throughout the 5 mile narrow hilly estate. Price $40 and totally worth it! Ellen was our tour guide and driver. Brava to Ellen! She was extremely thorough and knowledgeable about the entire Fredric Church estate. A wonderful gift shop is available on the premises.

This is for the Old songs Festival located at the Altamont fair grounds in lovely Altamont…read more I'd never been the the OSF, and it's pretty interesting. Obviously if you are attending this sort of thing you are looking for folk and acoustic type music. There are countless workshops and activities throughout the day and most people travel some distance to get there. Lots of families with children into their 20's. I was there for the Saturday evening performance and dance only and enjoyed about 5 straight hours of music and entertainment. Topped off by spirited contra. Yes, I did get a little bored and if i go back next year i'll bring a book and a chair and a cooler with food and that sort of thing. There was plenty of food, but these events usually have much higher prices than even the mall. The ticket price for Saturday evening was $30. A little steep considering I missed much of the activities, but overall well worth it. There are people who get together to sing hymns, play the mountain dulcimer and just do some pick'n on a banjo. This is not spac, and there is a whole different vibe. most of the people who put this thing together are volunteers, and they volunteer because they love it. This is a community of real people connected by something they love. They are willing to travel, and camp and spend money and time to be part of their community. In a world of digital connections that means something.

We have attended the Philadelphia Folk Festival (PFF) every year for about 30 years. It has become…read moretoo big and impersonal. A friend turned us on to the Old Songs Festival (OSF) and we tried it about seven years ago and have been going ever since. The PFF is about 19 miles from our house - OSF is over 190 miles. What draws us to the OSF is the quality of the music and the musicians, the size and comfort of the venue, and the friendliness of the attendees. Putting it together - we like it there and intend to go back every year for as long as we can. Our recommending friend is now 84 years and has the same intention.
