3/5 - Website experience, value 5/5 - Experience AT brewery,…read moreservice Whenever I visit a new City, I always inevitably check out their breweries and Counterpoint was one that I missed last time I was in Kitchener. However, I was able to catch them this time! Before you head out, check out their Hours of Op via Google. They're closed half of the week and they open relatively late. I'm a bit torn about this brewery as I had a pleasant visit and the lone female running the place was awfully nice. However, $8/can of beer??!! I did ask the girl if my eyes were deceiving me and she confirmed that their cost of materials/operation went up significantly after the Pandemic. :( I completely understand this, especially since they're a small batch brewery. Although I feel for this small business, $8/can is completely cost prohibitive. Their Pints ($12)/Flights ($15/4 x 2oz glasses), although on the "higher-end" is inline with other bigger city breweries. Not sure how they keep these prices within normal range while their cans are about twice that of LCBO/Beer Store! I don't know whether to feel bad or complain about this pricing, but I'm sure they already know the general sentiment about this. One thing that I MUST complain about is that they offer a store discount if you subscribe to their newsletter off their website. However, there's very, very little available online as most of their items seem to be "sold out". Not a great impression on that offer.

The beer flight was excellent as was the margarita. The only downside to this restaurant is the wine menu. We were both having chicken and seafood, but defaulted to the only wine on the menu that got a decent rating from Vivino, and it was a red. Meh. We're neither of us stuck on if it's a fish or poultry dish you must have white and our bottle of red was a good wine so we enjoyed it. We started with the falafels with hummus and the Caesar salad. Both were very good. I opted for the chicken schnitzel and he went for the lake trout. The chicken schnitzel with spinach spaetzle was very good indeed. I ended up requesting some lemon to squeeze on the schnitzel because I found the herb butter was a tad too much like the spaetzle. Not a criticism per se, I just felt that the lemon juice added a bit of extra zest that I personally liked. The trout was also very good, except for the tomato sauce base - he felt that did not add to the dish. Nothing wrong with the sauce, just not necessary. Mudtown Station was recommended by friends who'd been here a few years ago. I know it's undergone some changes since then, but I thought the recent poor reviews were a shame. They almost put me off. But truly, this restaurant is trying hard to get back to its former glory and I'd say they're now there. The menu is creative and out of the ordinary, the atmosphere is relaxing and pleasant and the food is very good - and this review is coming from a foodie who's eaten in many Michelin starred restaurants and at least 4 that were in the list of top 100 in the world, including number one. Mudtown Station deserves a visit. I'd give it a 4.5 if that was an option.

When we arrived at 6:00 p.m., the restaurant wasn't very busy. We ordered the Curry Chicken Flatbread, which was an interesting combination and surprisingly tasty. The signature burger was underwhelming and quite small. The trout was tender and flavourful. The service was just okay. Some dishes come with a choice of side, but we weren't told that certain options carried an extra charge until we received the bill. The server even mentioned that she had accidentally undercharged us, so we ended up paying more than we expected. The pricing wasn't clearly explained, which could easily catch travellers off guard.
