The location is a 10-min walk from downtown and a 5-min walk from the Silver Spring Metro. There is no overnight parking allowed. As for the facility itself? It is cramped, dated, and clearly needs to be refreshed. Dirty walls, dirty floors, and overall disorganized and not a pleasant place to wait for a bus. I don't know how long this building has existed on this block, but it's time to renovate. I paid $60 for my ticket to New York (roundtrip), was able to book online and pick up my printed tickets at the counter there without much trouble. Because I booked so early, I had boarding number 1. The lines were a mess. People were unaware of how boarding numbers work, so they just lined up as if it was first in line, first on bus. The employee who tried to control the crowd did not enunciate or project his voice so it was hard to hear the instructions. Even as a first-time user of Greyhound, I felt that the boarding process did not need explanation, yet everyone already in line was yelling and pissed when others got to board before them. There needs to be a better system to organize. It's not Greyhound's first rodeo. Signs that indicate lining up by number would be useful. Or numerical markers on the ground where you would just find your boarding. Inner and stand there. The interior was comfortable in terms of lighting and temperature, but everything was so cramped together--bathrooms, vending machines, dollies, seats. There was a tiny TV anchored to the ceiling. WiFi did not work. I would not use Greyhound again. Employees yell, are disorganized, and just aren't trained in customer service and crowd control. Go with Megabus or Bolt Bus. Unfortunately neither of these two options depart from Silver Spring, which is convenient and the only reason I chose Greyhound. read more

Horrible, the bus I went on smelled like diesel and the driver doesn't know the route. They are the filthiest buses in America and the staff in the office in Port Authority where rude and didn't explain if the bus stopped in a place. First trip on Greyhound, and it's already disappointing even before the trip has started. Booked a 1:30 bus from Silver Spring to NYC, and the bus is currently 30 min late already. After my trip to and from NYC, I'd still say this is passable for a few hours. Buses are never the best, but with a cap of 30 people it's also not the worst. Sigh... Greyhound, baby why you always late? Sadly, the reviews about punctuality is true. I've taken Greyhound a number of times and it's always late- sometimes 30 minutes, one time up to 2.5 hours. The only bus system I've ever used that has always been on time is Vamoose. Anyway, you get what you pay for. It's conveniently close to Silver Spring metro station. The staff members try their best but they're not the bus drivers. They've always been attentive with me when it comes to updating bus schedules. The seats are broken. No outlet in my seat. No WIFI at all. I asked the driver he didn't answer me. I called the company they transfer the call. O waited 30 min. Not one answer me. I'm going to NYC in the middle of day. It's a working time. They promise WIFI and there is No working WIFI. Greyhound is a company that has been around for decades. Unfortunately my experience here was sub par compared to other stage coach companies. To begin the trip, we left about 30 minutes late, which normally would be fine, however, they didn't even let us know why or when we'd be departing while in line. So this felt like forever! Additionally the driver was quite rude to some costumers and would often tell average loudness speaking individuals to be quiet. Not sure, maybe he has sensitive hearing? I am ONLY writing this review for the Fenton Street Greyhound stop in Silver Spring ... and especially for the line that goes from here to NYC Express. If you live in the neighborhood, like me, two blocks walking distance from this small location ... and go back and forth a lot to NYC, like me, and have a flexible schedule and can travel whenever you want, like me ... IT's GREAT! Otherwise - I don't vouch for Greyhound ... ever. I usually travel weekdays between the 7:25 am and 10:55 am Express buses to NYC. They make a quick stop in Baltimore and then straight to NY. The drivers during this time on this route are good and fast and know their way around traffic (when it hits). the tickets usually run me between $13 - 16 (yup! that's right ... and I don't have to get on Metro to go into DC). The route back is quick and easy too - if you know how to navigate Port Authority ... i grew up in NY so I know my ways in and out. Otherwise it can be a nightmare ... Back to Fenton Street ... Pathetic. Greyhound is PATHETIC! Our trip was from Washington to New York. First. The system was down I couldn't even book my ticket. Finally booked via iPhone. Second. At the Union a Station, the dude didn't let us to stand in line when we showed up exactly 30 mins in advance. We came back in about 10 mins and of course the line was gigantic. Guess why? It still had people there that were suppose to leave at 10am...our bus was suppose to leave at 11:15am He told us to go to line E...guess what, there were two line E's. I purchased a round trip bus ticket for my mother between Silver Spring and NYC. The return bus to NYC was an hour late (Tuesday 7:20am scheduled departure, didn't leave till after 8:15am). Ok understandable if the bus was fighting morning rush hour. My mother informed me that the packed bus has no air conditioning and when it stopped at Baltimore at 10:32am, the driver opened up the emergency exit on the top of the bus. This is unacceptable especially in the middle of August with highs in the mid 90s and my mother is a senior citizen in her mid 70s. This is huge health and safety concern and extremely distressing to know that you operate a business this way. read more

This is the worst company. They charge a gift fee ($15) for me to book a seat for my disabled adult son on top of the regular fair, so he could travel with me. Then I call customer service and ask to speak to a manager. I wait on hold and then the agent hung up on me. I went on live chat and they said they can't have a manager call back. I wanted to update that my information below seems to no longer be correct. I was looking for a bus ride to NY for February 2011, and it appears that greyhound buses going from Silver Spring now regularly stop in Baltimore (making the trip half an hour longer). On the positive side, greyhound is advertising that its upgraded to wifi and outlets (we'll see how long those stay in good repair). The prices seem to have gone up slightly ($28 each way). Now that the one reason to take the Silver Spring greyhound has dissapeared (the faster time to NY), there really is absolutely NO reason why anyone should be taking it (especially if you're coming from DC). I attempted to change my daughter's departure time - as the ad says, plans changed and we wanted a little more time. However, the rules made the ticket non-refundable and non-changeable - and they were not inexpensive. So, from my Customer Experience, I strongly recommend NOT ever using Greyhound. This has been, without exception, the absolute WORST bus trip I have ever taken in my life! Breakdown: - Booked the 7 AM "express" from Silver Spring to NYC. Supposed to leave at 7:05 AM and arrive into NYC at 12:15 PM. - Woke up at 5 AM to check in because you can only check in and get your boarding number 2 hours before you board your bus... no idea where this boarding number is relevant bc at no point in time did they ask me for one, but I wake up early and check in - Get there, get on bus, and head from Silver Spring to Baltimore, things are going well so far - Get off bus and wait in terminal for the second bus from baltimore to NYC - The following are the list of messages that we received from the awful people in that terminal: -- Bus is late -- Trip is cancelled, please come to window to get a refund -- Bus arrived full, we're waiting for another one -- New bus will get here at noon, come get your meal vouchers -- Bus is here, board it now - Finally board the "10 AM" and leave at 10:30 AM for NYC... except wait there's more! - 30 minutes into trip, bus driver pulls over on the interstate to check the map... turns our we were driving for the last half hour in the wrong effing direction! - He does a u-turn in the middle of the road, and we start heading in the right direction (including 2 more stops on the side of the interstate for him to walk out and casually check for random things around the bus) - Remember where this was express? bull**it. We end up pulling into Wilmington, DE. All of us on the bus (most of whom were supposed to be in NYC by noonish) are up in arms asking why we're in DE. Bus driver says that we should've booked express if we wanted to go from Baltimore straight to NYC. - Finally get into NYC at 3 PM... a full 8 motherf@$#ing hours after we leave the silver spring station. Do not, I repeat DO NOT, use greyhound to go to NYC from Silver Spring. Vamoose leaves from Bethesda and goes directly to NYC, and Megabus/bolt leave from Union with stops in Baltimore that don't require you to change buses. I only gave one star because I had to in order to give a review...I got to the station for an 8:35 am departure. Not only did the bus NOT leave until 11:51, but when I contacted customer service (while sitting on the bus) I was told first that I was lying and that their GPS was showing we were in route, two she couldn't give me any information about the bus or its estimated arrival or any other information about the location of the bus, and that I would have to call back 24 hours AFTER I arrived to my destination before there could be a resolution. There was no update from the staff on site and eventually we had to switch buses all together! Pretty annoyed as I have been a customer for a while. I've never had this problem with Megabus and they have all the same extras as they relate to wifi, plugs and a bathroom. read more

Since when does it take 6 hours to get from NY to DC with little to no traffic? Oh, since this express bus (no stop) decides to take 3 stops! Giving it an extra star because it was cheap, even though I scheduled my trip pretty last minute. Customer service: The office is about at 15 minute walk from the metro, which isn't terrible but I wish there had been a shuttle service. Upon arrival, the lady at the desk just stared at me until I asked how to check my bag. The man she was working with was yelling at a customer, and I was honestly a little bit scared. Our bus was supposed to board at 10:40, but at 11:00 the same worker ran by us yelling at the bus driver to hurry up. Not very professional (don't plan on getting there when they say you will). The bus itself: Lots of green, very old and rickety. Looks like the seats haven't been vacuumed in a few trips. Not too pleasing to the eye, but I don't expect much more from a $29 ride to New York. There is wifi, and each set of seats has two electrical outlets which is very handy for a long ride. Some of the seats lean back, but the knob on mine had been pried off and my friend's chair couldn't be put back upright. There is a bathroom, but I don't plan on checking it out. THE PEOPLE: I wasn't going to include this part because this isn't really Greyhound's fault. However, it is what cause me to dread my trip back home! On the way from DC to the stop in Baltimore, there were only about 10 people on the bus and it was peaceful enough. Someone started playing their music out loud, and once we got to Baltimore the driver (in very broken English) made an announcement about being respectful and keeping your phones quiet, since they have "received many complaints about people not doing so." Too bad everyone was too busy yelling and talking on the phone to listen. The woman behind me threatened to "flip out" on the person behind her, and called someone to loudly complain and make racist comments. Once she settled down, a man a few rows back decided he didn't need headphones anymore and has been playing his music out loud for about 2 hours. If Greyhound is consistently receiving poor reviews and complaints about these noise issues, they should put up signs or make sure people hear and understand their announcement. Overall, I obviously wouldn't recommend Greyhound. However, if you do choose it for the price, try to sit near the front and make sure you bring headphones. read more

I had 2 dorothy draper chests, that i purchased on ebay, shipped from LA to Silver Spring. Everyone that I spoke to at GreyHound was extremely professional. The shipper sent them in 2 separate shipments and the GH folks answered all of my questions and knew who I was when I called back to let them know that my furniture restoration guy was picking them up. I did not know that GH was a safe and reliable way to transport heavy shipments. The hours were great too - they are open from 7am - 9pm 7 days a week. It was dealing with a business in a small town where they treat you like a valued customer. I hope they are paying those guys well and I hope an old American company like GH can survive for many years to come. read more

My review is not totally related to this Greyhound terminal in Silver Spring. Me and a friend decided to take a quick trip to New York, NY for shopping and sighting seeing. Well, we both purchased or tickets online, after I purchased my tickets I decided that I would rather board from another location, I called the Call Center and they flat out refused to switch boarding locations. However, I was given the option to keep the ticket and use it within the year for an additional $20 .. which doesn't make any sense. I had to purchase an additional ticket. The day of the trip I was glad that i didn't have any issues boarding the bus. However, my friend missed the bus and she scheduled to take the next bus, which should have been an easy process but she had to pay an additional $20, and on top of that the clerk at the Baltimore location refused to give her a returning ticket (pass). When we go to NY it was difficult to get back to the terminal so we had to pay $20.00 each to take the next bus. It tool us an hour and a half standing in line to switch buses. The systems and process the clerks use are out of date and very inconvenient for the customer .. they were a mess!! NO CUSTOMER SERVICE .. it's like the company in a whole DOESN'T CARE, it is TAKE IT OR LEAVE IT POLICY. I will admit, yes we were late BUT this is common and the treatment we received was beyond ridiculous. Greyhound gets no bonus points from me ..yes the service is cheap but just remember you get what you pay for, pay the extra money for a more professional experience. read more
