Eclectic gift shop full of Mexican pottery, metal yard art, and cool glass sculptures. Don't forget to greet the posse of dogs getting their beauty sleep in the front. They are "busy" just living their best lives (getting their best rest). I had a hard time deciding what I needed so I impulsively shopped for pottery. They have nice shallow pots that are hard to find, which work perfectly for succulents and cacti with shallow roots. I didn't even go out back, upstairs or downstairs. The place keeps going and going! If you get easily overwhelmed when presented with endless choices, you might make a list of what you are looking for before you go in. I knew what plants I need to repot and kept them in mind when I had to make hard decisions. I'd stop in anytime, because looking around this place is just fun. read more

i really truly love the concept of this store and the merchandise inside but there's a catch. there's anywhere from 3-5 dogs (and cats occasionally) ALL of these animals are dirty and covered in fleas. as i was standing there i watched one of the dogs lift its leg and p*ss on some of the display items (next to another puddle of p*ss that was already there.) in the back there is sh*t on the ground no one's picked up. i love animals, im all for having animals inside a business it's a fun concept - but if you're going to to it do it right. this is really gross and unsanitary and i would expect better. read more

We spotted this place on our way to the Tango garden.It's literally half a block away. If you like yard décor You could spend hours in here and still not see it all. It's packed inside and out with all kinds of Yard decorations. Statues, Sign, windspinners, Things for your birds; bird feeders, bird water, Wind chimes. I assume a lot comes from Mexico. Gringo Jones is a hidden gem in St Louis! We are from Chicago and we visit every time we are in town. I absolutely love the selection of pottery in this unique shop. My children, on the other hand, like the staff and love the dogs and always bring treats for them. The dogs are well behaved and sweet. My little guy (6 yrs old) is very timid and shy and scared of his own shadow but these dogs and great staff have won him over. The previous time we visited (November) the kind salesman gave my son a matchbox car... he has never forgotten that. If you are in the area this is a place you must experience to believe. This place is cray. Loads of Talavera items like pots, animals, figurines, plates, mermaids. A good amount of Dia de los Muertos goodies, a few antiques (but don't come here for the antiques), strange lawn sculptures and a couple dogs to keep you company. What more could you want? Some of the outdoor lawn ornaments are rusted like they've been there forever, but the indoor items are good to go. Rooms and rooms of literal stuff. They no longer take AMEX. We saw this place as we approached the MO Botanical Gardens (you can't miss it, since there's a profusion of huge statues in front). "Profusion" is an apt description of this store, as it is PACKED with stuff in several rooms plus a basement and a backyard. It's truly like a museum of roadside or folk art items and we were fascinated. Unfortunately we were pressed for time, but we enjoyed talking to a super-friendly woman with a great sense of humor (Kim, who I assume is one of the owners). RUINED MY DAY TRYING TO SHOP HERE- read on- This place is full of not just rude but MEAN people. Buyer beware!!! They are going out of business for MANY reasons. And my credit card had fraud on it right after the last time I was a customer. Never again! I never write reviews but took the time out to call out who I'm assuming was the owner. I asked how much a Santa statue was- I mean it was really ugly but for a gag gift. He said $30. I asked if he could do it for $25 as it was chipped and in poor condition. He ROARED "Get out of my store" even tho I was on the public sidewalk. I said "I'm so sorry sir, I didn't mean to offend you, I'm interested at $30" and he said "Get out. I don't like people" No remorse, no kindness. He said more that's not worth typing out- I couldn't believe it. And I didn't respond because who need that negativity!? I really enjoy this store and have been patronizing for years, I had an unfortunate experience yesterday though. I was at the register paying for a few items and the two guys (owners?) were chatting by the front door. Guy 1 says 'what a beautiful little boy" - pretty sure he was referring to one of the dogs. Then I overhear guy 2 say "Were you referring to him?" - at this point I'm pretty positive they mean me now. I proceeded to ignore it, until guy 2 was like "Excuse me sir did you hear what I just said?" - I had heard, still not wanting to engage I replied "do I want to hear what was just said" to which he then repeated the whole thing and let me know 100% they were now talking about me. The fact that guy 2 went out of the way to make sure I knew is what was more annoying honestly. Just a stupid / low IQ thing to do, read the room dude. Went in and tried to order a slab to put an urn and pedestal on, and he didnt seem to want to help, and said maybe you should just go to home depot.. If you've driven to the Missouri Botanical Garden, this is the store leading there that features the huge suit of armor out front. When is someone going to buy it? I've passed this place a million times on my way to The Botanical Gardens. I've always noticed the exciting statuary and such that crowds the sidewalk, but I've never stopped to check it out...until yesterday! My mother-in-law and I were in the area for lunch and decided to do a little exploring first. Apparently, she's quite a fan of this place, but hadn't stopped by in quite awhile. I was a big fan of all the beautiful tiles they sell - especially the blue and white ones! I could just imagine my kitchen with a huge make-over! I have been meaning to review Gringo Jones for a while, just never got to it until today. Basically Gringo Jones is a collection of unique garden, home interior, and knick knacks. The store is full and to some people cluttered, but to me that is all part of the best parts of Gringo Jones, you never really know what you are going to find. When heading to the botanical garden or the Shaw neighborhood this is one of the places that you have to stop by. Gringo Jones is a great place to find a truly unique gift for the person who has everything or is impossable to shop for. The staff is friendly, so are the four legged ones that are often laying on the couch when you first enter. Parking is easy, either on the street or right across the street in the botanical garden lot. Prices inside vary, but there is usually something for all incomes. read more

I went to this store in December, with me was my service dog as I am disabled. The moment we walked in my dog was attacked by one of the store dogs. After the fight was broken up the owner yelled at me to get out, and explained they "don't allow service dogs" which is illegal. Overall super disappointed. If you're a disabled person with a service dog, this store is a danger zone. read more

This store is amazing. My advice is to only go if you have an hour to look around as it packed with little treasures. There are 3 big dogs in the store but they are sweet and very calm, my 8 year old son loves to come by and pet them. I don't understand the desire of the public to bring there dogs shopping with them so don't quite get the " Karen" behavior of being annoyed they can't bring their dog into someone else's place of business. The customer service has always been great for me. The owner has welded hooks and steaks onto lager pieces i gotten form there for me for free. Such mixed feelings about this place. One of my first apartments 15 years ago was a few doors down and I loved this landmark corner because, you know, it's fun and funny. It doesn't take itself too seriously. So many treasures, although, after going in again today, a lot of the treasures are the exact ones I saw five or ten years ago. Whatever, it's fine. Here's what's not fine: this places smells like shit. No really, it smells like shit because the dogs (and they are great dogs, don't get me wrong) that hang out in the place use it as their personal piss pad. This is well known; in fact, there's a sign that encourages patrons to beware of possible poop. But the urine... the mildew... the utter amount of just crap. And I don't mean poop crap or the stuff on sale crap, I mean random crap that's being hoarded in the corners and under tables. It's just, well, gross, so gross that my kindergartner told me afterward that she only breathed through her mouth. I brought out of town visitors with us and immediately regretted it. He gave me a special Spanish teacher discount at the time so I could share all of his discoveries with my students! He also did my Aunt's hair for years before getting into the import business. I've been here before. It's fun and exploding with stuff to look at. But recently I called and asked about garden gnomes... they said they could order me some. I said I needed them ASAP. They said "well, we can't help you". I realize typing that this scenario doesn't sound that bad... but customer service isn't only about content but attitude and tone of voice.... and the woman had "i don't care about you, and you're tying up my phone line" tone. Open 7 days a week this is a great place to explore when you're looking for a unique item for yourself or a gift for the person who has everything. The items in the store are truly one of a kind. Talavera (the very colorful Mexican) pottery takes over one of the rooms on the main floor and can also be seen throughout the whole store. There's tons of concrete sculptures sitting outside the front door, iron/metal sculptures, furniture, jewelry, and knick-knacks galore! You can literally walk through the entire place which happens to be an old house. Walk the main floor, upstairs, (creepy)basement, shed, back yard and everywhere in between! Another word of advice, look up, down and every other direction because items are literally shoved everywhere. You'll never know what unique items you'll find. If you've never been you're truly missing out on an experience. Expect a cluttered store(which makes the experience in my opinion), some kind of item on sale, super friendly associates, unique items, and dogs. Yep they have the friendly store "mascots" (which have always been Boxers) sitting near the cash register and it's been that way ever since I can remember! In St Louis and made a run to Gringo Jones my favorite place to buy ceramic pots. I was in to buy a new ceramic pot for a ficus tree in taking back to Murfreesboro, TN. Lo and behold I saw this "Dia de Los Muertos" couple and had to have them. They have excellent prices and their staff is wonderful. Leon is a sweetheart, Rod the tall good looking one and wonderful Kim. Always a great adventure in that store and their adorable pets. read more
