Give yourself some time and consider leaving with a sitter any little kids who would touch and break things. Minus one star because I filled out the "buying" form on the website. I had some items I wanted to see whether they'd be interested in. No one contacted me. It's fine if my stuff isn't of the type or quality that goes in your store, but I'm clearing out a late family member's possessions and I took some time to upload photos share with The Brass Alligator, and even a "thanks, but no thanks" would have been nice. Not a big deal.

The second day, they had people standing outside for over an hour with no communication or sense of urgency. Pricing was completely out of touch. Charging $1 per stem for tiny Dollar Tree florals (not even a bouquet) is honestly absurd. What really pushed this into unacceptable territory was the pricing on half-price day. I was quoted $900 for about half a car full. After checking the tags myself, it should have been closer to $400 -- or around $200 with the discount. That kind of discrepancy is not a small mistake. Between the lack of organization, long waits, and questionable pricing, this felt like a very poorly run sale at best -- and misleading at worst. I won't be back.

I live right around the corner in McKinley Heights and always drive/walk by this place, but it sometimes looks a little mayhem. What do I do when places look mayhem? I buy online. I started following them and one day while sitting on my plane wi-fi, I noticed the blurry shots of a gawgeous milk glass shelf, walnut sideboard and hutch. In my horrible connection, I typed "#sold". Then, I was asked if I wanted the matching piece for a little discount. There I went again - "#sold". They will send an invoice and you can pay online then pick it up on a Saturday or Sunday 12-5. Pick up can be a little hard to understand because you have to find The Unlabeled Guy (whoever that is) and find your piece. We were able to back the truck up the sidewalk to pick it up once I found The Guy and he confirmed my invoice. The inside is chaotic, with pieces of furniture everywhere. I think they list their nicest pieces online then keep them in the front room until pick up, so I'm guessing their nicer stuff is in the front. Basically everything they have is priced cheaper than any antique store or online seller, with the only exception being maybe an auction. I suggest following them on Instagram and checking it daily, with your #sold fingers ready to go. The good stuff goes quick. I bought another item just last night. IT'S SO EASY. TOO EASY. The peacock wall piece? Yeah, that was me.

Merchandise turns over regularly so there's always something new to see, from original art and old books to planters, kitchen implements, small machines, furniture, and much more. They have a great collection of lampshades, and can repair lamps and other small goods. They rewired a lamp for me, and stabilized a finicky tension pole lamp for a friend. One bonus feature: STL Vintage Cameras is housed in The Bricoleur. Local darkroom enthusiasts have learned that this is the go-to for lenses, film, and much more.

The first time I have heard of this place was for 2nd Saturdays on Cherokee Street. Half of the building is their antique shop and on the other side, a gallery. This particular evening, they were hosting a little gathering and featuring some local art. They had wine, Civil Life beer, and a nice table to finger foods which was really nice.
