Friendly and always helpful. My main place to shop. We live 36 miles from town. There are other stores. I prefer Grocery Outlet because It's not crowded and I can get help if I need it. Over the years I have gotten to know the employees and feel comfortable showing there and my needs are met. read more

On Thursday late afternoon, November 4, 2021, I was waiting in line at check-stand One for the customer in front of me to pay for her groceries. She was talkative and I believe she knew the cashier because of the way they were talking. The cashier was a female Caucasian woman who had short curly "pepper and mostly salt" colored hair, whom I later learned was named Jennifer. I was annoyed because after the customer paid for her groceries, she remained standing there still visiting with Jennifer as if their conversation was more important than Grocery Outlet making Sales. Seeing that Jennifer wanted to visit further with her despite my standing there patiently, I had to finally interrupt them and say that I was in a rush to get the customer to move along so I could purchase my items and leave the store. I suggested to them both that they should visit at their home instead of in a place of work where in our Covid Pandemic Era, people should not loiter any more than absolutely necessary. The customer finally moved along and was out the door when Jennifer apologized to me. Her words were not felt and she was not at all friendly with me as with her last customer. Please speak with her and encourage her to make haste and not leave customers waiting unnecessarily. The other check register was open but it had at least four other customers waiting. Two months passed since I sent this letter and I did not receive a phone call, no apology letter, nada. Better management and communication is in order. I always like shopping at the Grocery Outlets - one can get many things at highly reduced prices, and sometimes they are unusual items not readily found elsewhere. Of course, they don't have everything. They deal in over-runs and surplus items, though they try to keep a reasonable selection of produce, cheese, lunchmeats, frozen and canned foods, etc. stocked. If you like something and its a bargain, then stock up on it - it may not be there next time you come. This Grocery Outlet just opened in April 2017. It's a bit on the small side, as Grocery Outlets go - but then Madras is a small town. They do manage to get in there most of the things they have in Prineville and Redmond. I look forward to being a regular customer of theirs. read more

Everyone who works here is really friendly. It's not an issue with that. I've trying to give this place the benefit of the doubt saying "they're probably short staffed". I never wanted to leave a "karen review" But the issue that's going on is something that's not okay. I shop here frequently and always check expiration dates. While shopping, I always find items that are well over expired. Sometimes MONTHS expired. I will forget to check ONE thing I purchased on my grocery haul and that one thing is always expired two weeks out. You can't be selling people spoiled food. Something needs to be done about this because it's a health and safety hazard. I myself and the people I live with have gotten food poisoning from items here. I've been to many Grocery Outlets before and I have never had this problem to this extent. I've always seen things here and there that are expired which is pretty typical but there's no reason why everything in the dairy fridge should be three weeks expired which happened a couple months ago. Please put more time and attention into making sure you're not selling unsuspecting customers food that will make them sick. read more

My husband needed his heart medication refilled. Our regular pharmacy didn't have it so they called around and Safeway said they had it and could fill it. He sent us there and the woman refused to fill it. Said it would have to be tomorrow. If something happens to my husband because of their incompetence I will be suing your store and you personally! read more

Attitudes stink right now, shelves are stocked with close to expiration date items, and the store smells from all the fresh produce.

Oh my where do I start? I've been there three times, and every time I went, not a single employee greeted me, or asked if we needed help finding anything... they watch my husband and I wonder about their store, searching for one item, and looked at us like we were some kind of idiots. Turns out we couldn't find what we were looking for. And the cashier that checked me out the last time I was there was SO rude! Stopped there as I was traveling back to Pdx , hands down one of the best grocery stores I been in , super friendly , knowledgeable, fast, and efficient staff, another thing was that they had staff working unlike a lot of grocers that are understaffed with. Every time I have gone into Madras Grocery Outlet, workers there approach me at least once a trip to ask me if they can help me find an item. At the check out counters, I have yet to have a person in front of me in line. The clerks are very good about making sure there are no long waits in line. I am always told how much money I have saved at the end of my transaction. I would like to see my grocery get bagged a little slower - the mock speed sometimes squish my bread, but other than that - in and out with super efficiency. The store is extremely clean, the music is energetic. The rows of products are always pushed to the front ledge for ease of picking up an item. And the recent recipe that was featured on the circular, "creamy shrimp pesto" was easy to make. The nice thing is, all the ingredients on the recipe Madras Grocery Outlet had. So new to area see this event for year thing with specials so we go last 3 days here each time found employees not to be to friendly. Had no idea tell this time about punch card thing. Had to ask for drawing ticket every time. Every day the people setting up hotdogs and floats were late and to busy to be friendly. Prices are great but after today lady in checkout 1 got so rude with lady checking us out in two over a pen the employee helping us was very professional and held it together. But that lady was so rude makes me not want to come back. read more

asked a stock person if there was bbq briquettes in the store, I was told no, we do not have those. At the checkout stand asked the cashier if there was briquettes in the store and was told no once again. As i stepped out the door to go back to my vehicle there was two large pallets of bags of briquettes stacked right there. read more
