Despite the decent haircuts and the nice space, the experience is ruined by the owner's snide attitude and derisive demeanor. The owner once scolded me for trying to open his shop's door (always locked) and sneered at me for not reading his 'do not open' sign before attempting to walk in. They are not flexible at all and will not go out of their way for ANYTHING to help a customer have a better experience. They ask you to arrive 15 min early to your appointment or you lose it. They will not try to honor a 2-week touchup if you try to schedule even a day after. They will refuse to schedule a specific time if they think you are not going to make it on time (I live blocks away). I have not felt welcome in here a single time I've been and have consistently left with a bitter taste. Will not be going back. read more

I'd like to start off by stating that I really don't like writing poor reviews but in this case I feel that it's my duty to report to the public after my horrible experience at this spot. Owner is extremely aggressive, rude, mean and dishonest. He has no common decency. I didn't feel welcome at all, and he made it seem like he was doing me a favor or that I was lucky to be there. Their website advertises a basic men's cut, but when you book online, you can't actually select it. Instead you have to book a more expensive "package." In retrospect, that may have been a good indicator about how they think of addressing their customers needs. The space itself looks great, and it's in a great location, but the customer service really ruined it for me. I was 10 minutes late to an appointment. I wouldn't have been if I could have helped it. But sometimes things happen that are outside of my control. I walked in, was not greeted, and then waited briefly at the front desk for the two staff to finish their task. I said "I'm late for my appointment," and the first response I got was a single sentence, "It's too late." They explained that since they start appointments ten minutes early, they can only accept people who are up to 5 minutes late. (I don't understand it, but that's what they said.) I understand that being late to an appointment means you may miss it. But there's a huge difference between "we can't help you because we're fully booked," and "we won't help you because you were late." What I got was the latter. I made my best effort to get there in time, I literally ran since that was faster than the abnormally slow bus I was on. In that situation, all I really expected was for them to make some effort. And if they can't help, I'd have appreciated some expression of regret that they can't help. That's a good way to signal to a customer that you value them. Not doing it is a clear signal, too. I'm really disappointed in this. I was looking forward to finding a new barbershop for my family in our new neighborhood, and was excited to come here. But after this experience -- a website that forces upsells on you, and staff that don't care whether they help or not -- I don't think this will be the place for me. read more

Went in for a beard trim (about 2-3" past my chin). Place looks great, Corey was very nice and engaging. However, he kept asking me questions while trimming my beard. I tried to time it right to talk when he wasn't trimming, but some times he went at it while my mouth and beard was moving. Didn't use a comb after the first 5-6 passes at the beginning and stuck with clippers afterward. Looked decent enough when I left without my contacts in (had to take them out earlier, couldn't replace, slight prescription of -1.00 so details get blurry past 4 feet). After a shower that night and blow drying and combing it out, I found I had to do quite a bit of touch up trimming and that my left cheek is noticeably thinner than my right and due to cut length or hair pattern, you can seen my skin through my beard on my left side and not my right. Hairline on both cheeks aren't as even or straight as I've had in the past. I can't speak to the quality of haircuts, but I question his experience with beards. In trims I've had in the past, combs were used much more throughout to get a better idea of hair length, pattern, and which direction it starts curling and at what length. This was more combing my beard out a bit and using clippers like hedge trimmers. Not the end of the world, but I've experienced better" for 2 stars is accurate. read more

They do great haircuts I've gone to a few different ladies and Adam for haircuts and beard trims. Corey has also been my guy when it comes to back and body waxing if you're into that type of thing he really does a killer job. I came here months after a terrible experience with another barber in the area. Everyone here is friendly, knowledgeable, and passionate about providing a great haircut. Liz cut my hair after asking particular questions about my preferences and executed it perfectly while giving me tips for styling and maintenance. It seems as if they have an all-star team of barbers selected from all their local competition. Not only did I walk away with probably the best haircut I've had since high school, but I am going back in two weeks for a FREE CLEAN UP. I could not recommend this place more highly. Just tried this place out for the first time today and was very impressed. After doing some hardcore creeping I found that my stylist moved here (her name is Liz, you should ask for her). I was greeted by a gentleman, which I later found out was the owner, as soon as I walked in and was offered water or beer which is a nice touch. Premium haircuts are cheaper here than anywhere else. If you are a busy professional, you are bound to have a bad experience. The owner, Corey, is zealous about clients being on time and I have seen him passive aggressively call people out on it. I was running 5 minutes late because the blue line was stuck in Clark/Lake and I called to notify this. The lady that answered the phone told me that it would be best to reschedule because it was the last appointment for the day. I reluctantly agreed because I was traveling for work the next evening. I figured I could come in the next day. When I arrived home, I was not able to book an appointment online because my account had been disabled. I had an email from the owner stating that I had to pay a fine since I had canceled my booking. Note, I had made the appointment at 6:45pm, same day, for 7:30pm - 45 minutes out. I replied explaining the full circumstances above to the owner but I never received a response. As a result of the owner's actions, I had to scramble to find a new place to get a cut before important work meetings. The owner has a pet peeve which makes him unreasonable. For a professional, it's possible a meeting will run a couple of minutes over or the L will be running behind so you are bound to have some form of the above. I would stay clear of Grooming Lounge. read more
