My husband and I can't thank them enough for their dazzling performance and being a part of our wedding reception. A special thank you to Taylor and Gary for all your help with the booking and planning details. What a magical night. Andrius and I wanted to express our big thanks and big love to the big band!

ONE MILLION STARS! Five is NOT enough!…read more I had the 15 piece band at my wedding and it was the best money ever spent! Impressive is an understatement. They played as I walked down the aisle, at my reception and after they played their two sets, they spun some rad 80's tunes per my request. My vintage themed wedding was complete....I swear Frank Sinatra (Paul King) was crooning as we got our swing on. Guests raved...and as a bride it was one of the highlights to my big day...I wish I could have pulled up a chair and watched in wonderment with my full attention. If you love the Rat Pack, Count Bassie and, Cab Calloway, you have got to check out RSO! If I was in Michigan, I would go to all the battle of the bands and swing events with RSO, and I would be the first one there. Gary was great to communicate with...very professional...and very helpful! He even got a hold of my venue managers that were a tad aloof... RIP to the sound guy and DJ, Chris Best, he was shot and killed the weekend after our wedding.... Big love to this Big Band!!!

I especially like that they help us line up and get through the restrooms and back in our seats during the intermission. Everything was spotless and had a beautiful holiday vibe; lots of bars throughout so no wait in line, and even getting in and out of the surface lot only took about 10 minutes. We each had a lovely Moscow mule and the show was fantastic. We were in the "penthouse" as the volunteers call it, and even up there, we had a great view and beautiful sound. Also, the retail shops on the first floor were open, so you could do a little shopping before or after the show; I think we'll go even earlier next time to take it all in. A wonderful experience, and I can't wait to see another show here.

Detroit. #hamilton I have been planning this moment since I'd been informed that Hamilton was coming back in March -- and I don't think I fully understood the depths of my devotion to making it happen until I saw my mother's face. She had surgery just days before. She couldn't clap too hard. None of that stopped her from being completely, uncontainable, childlike giddy. It is not often that adult children get to see their parents that way -- eyes dancing, joy uncontained. I got to see it Sunday night. The cast -- predominantly Black and brilliant. Culturally, that matters deeply to me and my former Black Panther mother. I want to be clear, however: everyone on that stage gave everything. The dancers. The vocals. The lighting. The set. Collective excellence. That's what live performance does -- it doesn't let you just watch. It makes you witness. And then there's the #FisherBuilding itself. I love theatres. I see grand architecture as art. Every time I enter a building -- big or small -- I stop at the door and take it all in. The Fisher is what I imagine true opulence looks like: 40 kinds of marble, crystal and bronze, green terra cotta tiles, light that gives the whole space a warm, illuminated gold effect -- earning its name as "Detroit's largest art object." The staff moved with the same coordinated energy as the performers. Dennis (Head Usher and my old Detroit Opera House colleague) greeted me with a big hug and put Mommie in her wheelchair with care, walking her straight to dashing security -- who told her she looked like royalty -- an African Queen. Raul was assigned to her for the entire night and showed up like family. The bartenders argued -- warmly, playfully -- over who got to take care of her. And I cannot even discuss all of the examples of kindness from the patrons to me and each other, because this post will be longer than it already is. The usher at the door walked me through my QR code, and managed that entire line with authority and warmth. I told my sisters -- watching our mother's face glow that night, opened something in me I cannot name. I am addicted now. Addicted to chasing that look on their faces. For as long as I have breath and means, I will keep finding ways to put you all in rooms that make your eyes dance. Some nights just settle into you differently. This is one of them. Thank you, Fisher Theatre for giving me one of those nights.

This is the place to hear one of the most beautiful sounds ever, a live orchestral string section. Famed conductor Neeme Jarvi said the best sound was found in the highest seats furthest from the stage. I have seen several greats here over the years, Jarvi, Slatkin, Ax, Hahn, Perlman and most recently 98 year-old guest conductor Herbert Blomstedt's peformance of Mahler's 9th Symphony (outstanding woodwinds in the Rondo/Burleske; the Adagio was bliss). CONS: Cramped seating! This place was built for early 20th century people who had smaller proportions. Plan on being shoulder to shoulder with the person sitting next to you. Leg room is worse. If you are over 6 feet tall, forget about it. SUMMARY: Actual score is 4.5 stars. 1/2 star lost for the antiquated seating. Otherwise, a very special venue. Worth the discomfort for war horses and special guests.

In all my years of living in metro Detroit and my love for live music, I cannot believe I've never seen a show here, and I cannot wait to go back. We sat on the main floor and were able to get a great view of the vocalists and the orchestra. The acoustics sounded amazing and there truly is no bad seat in the house. Parking was a cinch with their parking garage right across the street. The box office was extremely helpful when I couldn't locate my ticket in my email, and answered my general questions. Now, if you are looking for a dinner idea before the show, the Paradise Lounge on the 2nd floor is featuring Abode catering and I highly recommend! The restaurant is elegant but cozy. Isaac was our server and took excellent care of us. Their prefix menu rotates and is absolutely delicious. The house-made sourdough bread was SO delicious, we asked for seconds. The beet salad, which Isaac said he created, was so fresh and the marriage of flavors was perfect. The entrée gives you a choice of a meat or a vegetarian dish, and we both ordered the chicken, which was yummy, and the Panna cotta and cookies were the perfect ending. The Panna cotta had basil oil with fresh fruit and it was a delightful blend of flavors. They also have a full bar, which is a great place to get your drinks before the show to avoid the crowd of the main level bars. Be sure to check out the lounge before your show!
