I have been a patient here for 20 years and this is not the same business as when Doherty and Flanigan ran the practice. The new dentists maybe competent but they have reduced the front office staff from 4 or 5 down to one person and she is not that pleasant. I had a cleaning in Feb 2026 and a dentist Dr. Youngaitis came in also for a peek. I have MetLife Medical insurance. I was billed $264 after insurance and I never had to pay that much but I paid it and conducted further investigation on the MetLife site and discovered that this dentist is not in network! I don't know why they had that dentist look at me. I contacted the dentist office and I was told that the dentist was IN network but not according to MetLife. Last week someone at the dental office said they were going to look into it. As of Sat March 6th 2026 I haven't heard anything back. Very frustrated this happened especially since I was there for a cleaning so the dentist didn't need to examine me. read more

The treatment from hygienists and dentists is fine. This front office is horrible and has gone down hill completely. The office staff are incompetent and absolutely rude. The woman who checks you out is unprofessional and downright mean. I went in for an appointment last week and they told me I had called and cancelled it. She was sarcastic and unhelpful. Horrific. I was told I needed 4 teeth removed and after they pulled them out, left gaps in my mouth on both sides with NO PLAN. They wanted 2000$ then another $1200 for a partial. I've been going to this dental group for decades, until now. From the most recent beginning, back in march I had a tooth drilled and filled. The bill went back and forth for about 7 months. The Insurance company wanted more information. I guess eventually they got it and the day before my cleaning appointment, I got a bill. I went in for the cleaning and the receptionist reminded me I had a balance, I acknowledged her. She kept insisting and insisting, even raising her voice, I told her I don't carry credit or debit with me and only had 6 dollars. I'm an almost 25 year patient and don't expect to be treated this way. I'll be looking for another dentist and leaving this one......soon. read more

Dr. Iypes is a great dentist, she is very caring and trustworthy. Now for the office it's self, I went in knowing what my insurance covers, what my copays were,and had to argue with the office manager, I had to have the insurance company send her a copy of my policy before she would stop trying to charge me. Then went in for a cleaning, right after seeing Dr. Iypes, the technician brought in another doctor, who just so happened to NOT be in network so guess what, I get a bill. The Groton Dental Group has changed significantly over the past few years as it is now owned by "corporate". With appointment snafus, lingering billing issues for routine cleanings, hygienists and staff quitting, and all longstanding dentists now retired... many of us longtime patients had no choice but to seek dental care elsewhere. Be very wary of mandatory X-rays (and other unnecessary services) from the newly hired hygienists and dentists. At this chaotic office, dental X-rays are now required annually, in spite of your individualized, well documented, dental health! Just a reminder that the American Dental Association/U.S. Food and Drug Administration (ADA/FDA) guidelines recommend "that adults with no oral health problems typically will only need X-rays every two to three years." read more

The new periodontist seems to be excellent...however I am seeing him because an issue that should have been picked up on X-rays in 2022 and 2023 was missed/ignored. Now I need more invasive and expensive care than if it had been addressed earlier. There has been huge turnover in what seems to be a very short time span. Honestly the worst dentist I've ever been to. Every single appointment I schedule is rescheduled at least one or two times and this is a common occurrence amongst all of their patients as I have several friends with the same experience. The phones constantly say that you've called out of hours even when you call during their scheduled hours, so it makes it extremely hard to contact them. the office is old and unwelcoming. Finally the care is subpar. The techs are nice, but the dentists barely look at your teeth and don't even talk to you. I wouldn't waste your time with this office. read more

Update: after talking with my medicare advantage plan, the details emerged that the Dr. the office assigned me had let his membership in the group/plan expire. So I called groton dental and explained it and the phone person said yes that is what happened. So I asked why did you then not correct my account and bill, but instead I had to do all the digging and research to find out the details? She said don't get rude with me! So that is their mentality. If you ask a question you get disparaged. Anyway, apparently the bill was canceled however it still shows as I had used up some of my deductible for the year when I log into my Medicare account. read more

Just to let everyone know, the doctors in this office are great. But due to a recent software upgrade, billing has been in error and the business manager says that they will not be going over everyone's accounts to look for errors. You must review your own insurance company's explanation of benefit statements over the past year to see if you overpaid any copays. I am due over $500 in overpaid copayments due to their software error. I am surprised the office hasn't sent out a notification to everyone stating the same. read more

Groton Dental Group is the worst dental practice I have ever been associated with. I've had trouble with them since my first appointment. Dr. Ike wrote me a prescription for an antibiotic and when I brought it to the pharmacy, my pharmacist told me that the prescription was written out to a different person. She told me I needed two teeth removed on each side. I changed dentists at Groton Dental and came in for the extraction in April. Three teeth were taken out on one side and I was blindsided. When I returned for a cleaning (I love Erica, she is the only reason I stayed there). Dr. O asked me how I was and I told him that I was emotionally decimated. He fluffed that off and moved along. His interest is only in the clinical, not the patient. I still am without a partial on that side because the titanium screws were put in four months after the extractions because of their scheduling...it has been a nightmare. The day after I had the screws put into my jaw, I called and asked to speak to my oral surgeon, who travels to different practices. I was told that he would not be able to be contacted for two weeks and she had no way of contacting him. I told her to have him call me or leave a message for him. That was two months ago and I still have not gotten a return call. the front office has no clue of what they are doing and insist they are right. They tried to take an extra couple of hundred dollars from me, thinking I wouldn't notice. I did and it took weeks to get it fixed. I am embarrassed and ashamed to open my mouth because of the removed teeth. I isolate now...not a good thing for a senior. The titanium screws will not be uncovered until mid December which means I won't be able to have a partial put in my mouth until mid January. Being without teeth for nine months is totally unacceptable and unethical. read more

I have an intense fear of dentists since I was an early teen. I had a small cavity that my former dentist felt didn't need novocaine. He was wrong and drilled into a nerve. It took me nearly 20 years to head back to the dentist. I had heard several good things about Groton Dental Group and hesitantly made an appointment to see Dr. Flanagan at the recommendation of a friend. Dr. Flanagan and his staff were very kind and explained in detail what they were going to be doing. I have to have extensive dental work done and the only "real" pain I've had is the needles for novocaine - not root canals, not implants, not crowns. I have gone with this place for 4 years to get the clean up done. The hygienists are good and courteous. You get what you expected. The office has several admin staff, as well as at least 2 or 3 hygienists working at the same time. What bothers me is I make appointment for clean up and they put me on for x-ray every year. When I objected it once, their reaction was "oh don't worry, your insurance covers x-ray once a year." That's not the point! I made an appointment for a clean up but they were giving x-ray, which I didn't ask for one, because they wanted to charge my insurance. Despite the x-rays, they never found any cavity or fractures. According to them, my result was great, except I recently broke my tooth from the fracture, so i am like, you took pictures to charge my insurance, but did you actually review them? Also, whenever I received the bill, it says that I met with DDS Dr. Daugherty, which added another charge to my insurance company. Problem is I have never met this DDS, and I have gone there 7 or 8 times. Sounds fishy, huh? Also, I have seen the place cutting cost. I used to get the "goodies" (toothbrush, toothpaste, floss) each time during the first 2 years without asking for one. All of sudden, they stopped giving them. I originally thought the hygienist had forgotten. The next time, when I asked about it, the hygienist reaction was "oh you want one? sure, I will get you ones". I knew from now on, they don't give them out unless you specifically ask for one. Finally, they are very difficult to reschedule. I once called to reschedule 3 weeks in advance due to a conflict, but the next available one was 1 month after my original date... Yet, they call me during the holiday season if I could come in earlier because they want to close their office early.. read more

I've been going here since my first tooth came in! The staff is really nice and very attentive. I have never had an issue with billing/insurance per some of the reviews below, but keep in mind that if you have an issue with billing/insurance it is usually due to your insurance company and NOT the actual practice. In regards to cleanings and procedures done- I've had everything done from regular cleanings to gum surgery to teeth whitening and I've had nothing but positive results and compliments on how white my teeth are. Last time I went there for a cleaning they gave me two toothbrushes- one for me and one for my son. My favorite doctor is Dr. Flanagan and my favorite assistant is Brittany! read more
