Red flags popped up... 1) I took a look at his website, to try to gather more information, and it leaves A LOT to be desired. And the estimate was done without ever seeing our house in-person (only a few pictures and a description by me, who knew very little about ice dams at that point). 3) When asked to provide a COI (Certificate of Insurance) he went dark. No longer responded. Needless to say, we did not do business. All else aside, NEVER have anyone step foot on your property to do work without providing you proof of insurance! (Google it and you'll see!)
