Hardly any mulch They came out 1 month after planting and it took 3 men, 4 hours to weed. Comments from crew said it must've been the mulch. When they left there was no more mulch. The weeds came back, of course, and it looked TERRIBLE! Called and waited and waited. No show. I went out and spent 2 1/2 days weeding. When they finally came they weeded the smaller garden. They said it needed weed block and mulch. The response from Jocelyn was I must've removed the mulch when I weeded! Tho the side the crew weeded didn't have mulch either! So no remedy. I will have to lay fabric and mulch myself. So much for hiring someone and have them leave property worse than they found it

Noah is very knowledgeable of different plants and flowers so conversation with him has always been very educational for us amateur gardeners. He has also been very accommodating from the consultation. He listened to our needs and concerns before coming up with a customized plan that fits our property and budget. The project includes a low dry-stack retaining wall, plants that would help stabilizing the soils since we live on a hill, perennial flowers/plants that support each other and blooms at different time, and irrigation etc. The installation was under a short deadline so that we can have our wish of throwing a post-wedding party in our yard. Noah, Cheryl, and Karen moved very efficiently and accomplished the project before the deadline and within budget. The project also includes post-installation maintenance as the first year is crucial for the garden to survive. There wasn't a lot of space to work with but I was sure that a little patio would fit between the house and the garage. I started contacting landscape design and build firms in March 2015. Most larger firms were already booked for spring, and when a couple of firms came out in June, they indicated that our job was too small for them to consider. Our realtor recommended Restoring Roots. From the first visit Karen was enthusiastic about the possibilities for our little space. She listened to our concerns and needs--one of the biggest concerns being that as new home owners facing a lot of projects, we wanted to consider a design plan that we could implement in stages. Karen came back to us with a detailed and comprehensive plan for our little space. After multiple negotiations with our condo association, we decided to move ahead with the patio construction in the fall and put the planting and construction of a sitting wall on hold until Spring. The bluestone patio was completed right before Thanksgiving. We are very impressed with the quality of the work and we think the patio looks great! We hope to have Restoring Roots back in the Spring for the next phase of the project.

They offer weekly and/or monthly garden maintenance by one of their traveling gardeners. Like invisible gnomes they'll show up to do stuff and you'll likely never know they were there -- as when we realized one morning that we had two new potato growing bins that had magically attached themselves to our garden. For people who want to do it all themselves they'll install the bed and provide a "self farming course" that will set you up to maintain the system on your own. I fall somewhere in the middle - I wanted a lot of hands-on help and attention in the beginning since I don't know anything about gardening but my overall desire is to gradually switch to doing everything on our own. GCG has been great about this for our 4x8 garden bed. They've been great to work with and are nerd-friendly - I was very interested in the cool drip irrigation system they installed and we ended up having a long chat about solar powered pumps, wireless moisture sensing gear and all sorts of random stuff. My long term intention is to capture water with rain barrels and use solar power pumps to move the water through the drip system -- not because I'm some hippy organic gardener but (honestly) because setting up the techy stuff seems like it would be a lot of fun. This South End based business first helped me with winter planting for my condo association's street side containers, and then next my own garden. BEWARE! Madrona will not live up to expectations and if you hire them, you'll be left with…read moreheadaches! I hired Madrona in spring of 2021 to install a new paver patio around my pool. While the patio project came out decent (and it should when you spend the cost of a brand new car), they destroyed my yard in the process. Having really nice, manicured grass and landscaping before the project started, I knew my yard would get disturbed by installing the new pool deck, so I made sure to build into the contract scope that allowed Madrona to repair all of the grass to its prior state when the project was done - something the owner, Vicente, agreed to. A year later, Vicente refuses to honor the agreement in the contract and repair my terribly damaged yard that I've had to spend thousands of dollars in materials and my time trying to fix to date. When the project was wrapping up, several days after promised, the Madrona crew was rushing to get to their next job. What resulted was quickly throwing down some unscreened loam, cheap grass seed and no fertilizer. The soil was lumpy and filled with huge rocks which meant the grass didn't grow properly. It wasn't long before I realized just how dangerous the unscreened loam they used was - it was filled with glass, plastic, and other trash - a major safety concern in a yard where young children are barefoot and pets play. Throughout the project, I found Madrona's communication to be lacking. I was often left in the dark with regards to important details, or given updates with no advanced notice. The excavation crew was careless, causing a sizable rip in my pool liner when excavating the old concrete patio - something I had to pay out of pocket to repair with the pool company. Maybe the most alarming issue with the whole project is that the owner didn't take measurements before ordering pavers, and shockingly, they ran out of pavers before they completed the deck. Sort of reckless to not spend 10 minutes up front to take measurements. There are plenty of reputable hardscape companies out there. Do yourself favor and think long & hard before hiring Madrona Bros for your project.

They installed sod, put in a pea stone walkway with cobblestone border, patched up asphalt along our driveway and installed all new mulch. The crew was efficient and courteous and everything looks beautiful. We feel like we have a brand new backyard! We would gladly work with them again next time we need landscaping services.
