In addition to a great new and used vinyl selection, they also carry cd's, cassettes, turntables, speakers, stickers, action figures, t-shirts and more. Well... there is a first time for everything, and I bought my first 3 records today! I still can't play them, but that's about to change real soon!! If you know where Bastard's Canteen is on Jefferson Ave., you'll find Discovery Records over yonder, just walk over the little green bridge to the right, lol. The shop shares a parking lot with neighboring establishments, so there's plenty for everyone. Although the place isn't huge, you're sure to find some good stuff. Owner SB is super cool, down to earth, and very friendly. The vinyl is separated into clearly labeled categories, so just find your genre and search away! The newest finds are on the right when you walk in, and the discounted ones are on the left. There's even a little bin that's marked 4 for $1! Like... WHAT?! If you're a collector, a DJ, or just starting out your collection like me, you should follow their Instagram account to keep up with sales, promos, and current events. One of their recent sales had me doing a double take because SB was selling 10 records for a buck!!! That is INSANE, but awesome at the same time, lol! I picked up some R&B singles while I was there. The nostalgia of my parents playing their favorite records back in the days brought back so many fond memories. I came back a few days later with the receipt and Dan was able to exchange it for a new copy when I came in, no problem. All staff are very friendly and knowledgeable, and they have an excellent selection of records available. The only small caveat I have is that the hours listed online are not accurate. They are not open Mondays and Tuesdays. This was not a problem for me since I live fairly close by, but I think it would be helpful for other customers if the online hours reflected this. Regardless, I'm very happy with the service I received and I'll be coming back.

But all of them are pretty overpriced - not just for the quality of the record but in comparison to other shops. I saw records that you can easily find a VG or VG+ copy for $15-20 priced double that or more. As well, it doesn't appear that they clean their records as the several that I got were very dirty. All in all a nice shop and nice people but I won't shop there again because of the very inflated pricing.

As soon as we walked in, there was a live stream going on, and the cashier came across pretty loud and a bit intimidating, at least from my teenager's perspective. To keep things simple, I just told him to grab what he was looking for and we'd head out. While he browsed, I ended up finding a couple of records for myself too. The shop itself is really cool and has a unique vibe, different from other record stores I've visited. It's not your typical setup, which makes it stand out in a good way. I also noticed the building is a historic landmark. All in all, it was a unique experience, and I'm glad we stopped in.
