We pulled into Baker City Saturday with a "check engine light " on in the truck. Went into Grumpys at 7:30AM see if they could fix the misfire problem. Even though they were fully booked they fit us in, repaired the truck by 2:30 and got us and our travel trailer back on the road home to Washington state. We were heading down the freeway When all of a sudden the check engine light and reduce power warning light came on we were going 70 and the truck slowed down to 40 !!! Very scary !!!! We were towing our 40 foot 5th wheel. We pulled off the freeway and looked up mechanics and we made an appointment with JR the owner of Grumpys diesel shop he squeezed us into to his already very busy schedule. He got it fixed for a very reasonable price!!! We are so grateful for his Expertise and his quick appointment turn around !!! After posting my review on the 12th, I received a call from the owner, JR. I had not spoken with JR previously. He was very polite and apologetic. He told me that he has owned the shop since the early 2000s and it is not under new management. I had only dealt with a man named Corey since dropping off our F150. Corey had implied that he was the manager/owner and that it was his name on the building. So perhaps Corey is the one who is not to be trusted/respected? JR was very nice and told me he was very sorry that I had a bad experience. He sent me a refund check by mail which arrived yesterday. To their credit, they had tried to get the truck to fail while they had it in their possession. Since it did not, they were not able to find the problem. Perhaps if I had been dealing with JR from the beginning, we would have had a different and better experience. I'm grateful for the call we received and the refund. Thank you JR. read more

Grumpy's charged me $2,000 for new bushings, alternator and a battery isolator in my RV after it died on I-84. After I got it home to Seattle, I noticed my 1 year old battery wouldnt hold a charge so I had two Seattle repair shops look at it and one of them had a mater electrician on staff. The diagnosis was the same from both shops; the battery isolator was wired up incorrectly which ruined the battery, the isolator itself, AND the alternator. Don't waste your time or money working with JR, let my lesson encourage you to look elsewhere. read more

We broke down in the extreme heat wave on July 4th weekend In Baker City, OR. We are senior citizens, with a 16 year old dog in a new small RV. Every mechanic in this lovely small town was booked, the sort of Dodge dealer was out three weeks in appointments! We were stranded, hot, and extremely worried. JR explained how booked he was with similar customers and it was very obvious as to how busy his shop was. I walked in to his clean office to overhear him rescheduling a local customer explaining our situation to this person on the other end of the phone. I couldn't believe it....he was really trying to work us in his hugely busy schedule. He didn't promise and he didn't tell us how he was rearranging appointments....he just did it. He invited us into his air conditioned office, said help yourself to coffee and his mechanic went to work, found the problem, did a test drive and we were back on the road. I still cannot believe the kindness of JR and his wife, Dana and the two mechanics. I was a registered ICU nurse and i hope I showed as much compassion to my patients as the people in Grumpy's Repair, Inc. showed my husband and me.So very grateful! Ps. Grumpy's Repair - Our small class B RV - Auto Repair Near Me - Baker City, Oregon

In September 2017 my truck was towed to Grump's shop for repair. He was rude and proud of being rude to me. He put in a new Injection Pump. It blew and many mechanics since have suggested that it was due to your mechanic there in not bleeding the lines and ended up having an air pocket. He pointed the finger at the Boise mechanic that had recently put in new injectors. But all along the journey there he puffed his chest and thumped hard on my life while there and professed that he knew his craft and was the best around. A year later, October 2018 my truck breaks down. Hmmmmm, Injector Pump. The wrong ring was installed which caused leakage and eventually it was going to break down. The warranty there is 6 months. But he didn't do the job right to begin with! I didn't drive out with the truck running and had to tow it to get it running at the Boise mechanic that was trying to be a nice guy, unlike Grumpy. If your mechanic had looked up the install online would've seen which ring to use where....but he did not. I know this based on TnA Mechanics n Sparks, NV that did the repair in Oct 2018 called and conversed with Grumpys mechanic and the mechanic acknowledged over the phone that he had not looked up the install on Google and did not realize the correct ring to use when repairing an injector pump. Grumpy did not attempt to reach out to me since Oct 2018 to refund my money. I am requesting for full return of money $3800. I have not called Grumpys due to him being obviously discriminatory towards women. rude to women and rude to an individual in the dog business. The ONLY way I could leave with my truck on a tow truck was to pay, sign beyond their 6 month limited warranty by saying I was super happy with their performance on my truck as he over heard me talking about reversing my payment on my credit card payment to him.....he strong armed me. I had dogs and puppies lives at stake, signed his bogus agreement and got out of there. Bottomline, Grumpy's Auto Repair did not repair it correctly to begin with. By placing the wrong ring into the pump was causing leakage and was going to fail sooner than later. If you are a female or have a dog....be prepared he will talk down to you! read more

We had an encounter on a Friday with a traffic barrel that bent an exhaust pipe on our motor home. Grumpy's was the nearest shop so we drove there. The office manager said they were booked 3 weeks out with 2 rebuilds that had to be done today. My husband asked if the mechanic would look at the pipe and tell us if it was safe to drive to Portland. He looked and said it needed to be fixed, and that he would squeeze us in as soon as he had a moment. Two hours later, the bent pipe was cut off and a new piece welded on. It took Freddy about 30 minutes. This is a full service shop that works on cars, trucks, RVs, and boats. They were quick, did an excellent job, and were very reasonably priced. We appreciated their willingness to get us back on the road, despite having so many other jobs to get done. read more

We exited the freeway in City of Baker for evening but well before the RV Park for the night, our Class A diesel RV began sputtering and died numerous times in town. After futile efforts to proceed very far, I called a local diesel mobile service. I was advised that Grumpys diesel repair was the only place in town that repairs diesel rv's. I called Grumpys....just before a 3 day Memorial weekend. Good Luck, Right? They told me to limp over to their shop. We are in Baker City, OR. We spend a lot of time there with our Family We are full time RV'ers, and have had trouble with our trailer brakes since last Oct. Just Cuz Contracting, which is my brother & cousin told us we must take it to JR at Grumpy's. We made an appointment, 3 weeks out. Truly amazed how busy this place is, yes at first Grumpy seems a little gruff, & he tells you exactly what to expect!! Which we really appreciated his honestly. We were amazed at how many different directions JR & his wife are going in all day long, with constant interruptions. Soo many RV places have given us the run around, ie; yes we will get right on it and a week later they haven't even touched it. Thinking & hoping our repairs would be about an hour, JR & his team kept at it, not giving up, 5 hours later, BINGO they found problem!! And even though it is a pain to have to deal insurance companies, JR got on that too and they came thru for us. Thank you to JR the owner and his team at Grumpy's Auto - Truck and RV Repair in Baker City, Oregon. My 2001 Ford F250 broke down east of Baker City on I-84 on a Friday evening. Although I knew no one in Baker City, Grumpy's Repair was recommended by three separate people including the tow truck driver as the place to have my vehicle repaired. I had the truck towed to Grumpy's and called the after hours phone number on Saturday morning. JR's team member Freddy was there with in the hour and quickly diagnosed an issue with the front drive line. Freddy did an outstanding job of keeping me informed about the progress of the repair including sending me pictures and discussing options for repair. Throughout the process JR and his team kept me abreast of the repair progress. JR even rearranged their busy schedule to ensure my truck was fixed quickly because he knew I was from out of town. If you ever have auto troubles in North Eastern Oregon, I would highly recommend Grumpy's as the place to go. They have outstanding mechanics and the whole team really cares. Grumpys is run by JR and his wife. They have zero professionalism. His wife is extremely rude and JR has a million excuses for why. It's completely unacceptable. If you're overrun, hire people. If you can't, you'll soon run out of business bc this is a very small town and you taking your personal stress on potential customers and then giving excuses bc you can't run a business properly isn't okay. 3 different occurrences I was told "he will call you back" and didn't. JR told me HE would have my vehicle towed, set up an appointment and never showed nor called. When I called that day "he'll call you back" never did. When I called the next day, The wife answered and felt the need to not only try to cut me off, argue with me and curse at me, she hung up when I told her its extremely unprofessional to do so, she hung up, she never seems to have any information at all and was extremely, and pointlessly rude. I had to call back twice, and she cursed at me again while cutting me off. All I was trying to do was get information on what was going on...You don't cut someone off when they are talking and hang up on them simply because they call you out on your bs, I wasn't rude, I was on point and direct. I would advise you both to go to a Communication and business class bc you clearly need the help. read more
