This happened to another persok as I was in the waiting room as well. Last week I had to wait over 1.5h to be seen for a pelvic ultrasound and their excuse oh the system had a glitch. After the procedure I met with Dr. Chikwe to discuss my options. She took the time to answer all questions from myself and my family. I decided to have the surgery, a quadruple bypass, and it was scheduled for 4/1/2019. The day of the surgery, I was prepped and ready for the operation. She met me and my family before it started, went over again what to expect, her reassurance took most of my anxiety away. The surgery went much better than expected. It was quicker than expected and I awoke in the cardiac icu without issue. I was in the hospital until 4/6/2019. While in the hospital she checked on me daily, after she had seen to her other daily duties. I never felt alone or in need of any explanations as to what was happening to me during my recovery at the hospital. I am recovering wonderfully and much better than I had expected. I owe my life to Dr. Chickwe, and will always be in her debt. Her knowledge and skill are only surpassed by her humility and compassion. I would recommend her to anyone who needs any cardiac surgery. If you are in need of a cardiac surgeon, please take the time to meet with her, you will not be disappointed. Thank you for everything Dr. Chikwe

My pharmacy also tried to call them twice to unscrew a prescription that didn't come through, and they were sent to the pharmacy line as well. Believe me, I spent 6 years in the Army, I am not thin skinned, and I am used to a rather callous medical system. These ladies are bad even by New York standards. Too bad really, she would be 5 out of 5 if her office staff weren't so atrocious.

She looked at a computer longer then she looked at me, didn't want to shake my hand, and the exam was brief, without a neurological test, (after telling her I had Ménière's disease!!) she didn't even check my reflex, or not even touch the tip of my nose with my index finger. Maybe she doesn't like inspecting men's genitalia but its her job, and she didn't... its was as if she felt I was diseased until she did a full panel test which she WASN'T going to do unless I had requested (keep in mind 2nd physical in 12 years) and to top it all off, this evening, after work, I receive a bill from her office asking for a meager, (but for me out of principle) requesting 15 bucks without telling me why. When I called Mt Sinai I was told its was for talking to her for 3 minutes about smoking.... Thats right ill re-literate she send me a bill for 15 dollars for talking to her for 3 minutes about smoking............ I'm still beside myself. DO NOT go to this hospital unless you must. My horrific experience began when I was rushed by…read moreambulance to the Emergency Room because I was having an appendicitis. When I got there, the admitting staff in the ER was completely rude, uncaring, and not at all paying attention to what was being said (more about this later). Once I was finally transferred from the EMTs onto a gurney/bed in the ER, I laid there writhing in agony for literally an hour before a doctor came to see me. My wife begged one of the nurses to give me some pain medication. And the only rude response she got was: "He's just going to have to wait. I mean, he just got here." But then, finally, thank God, the doctor came in and he at least was EXCELLENT. Great guy. And he immediately gave me something that eased my pain and scheduled me for a CAT scan, which revealed that I had appendicitis and that I would need surgery the next day. But then, rather than actually ADMITTING ME into a room, they forced me to stay overnight on the gurney in the Emergency Room. It was a nightmare. My only comfort was a new night nurse--Chris--who came in for his shift later in the evening. He literally saved me from losing my mind. Before he came, the nursing staff and the admitting staff in ER were horrible. They were all standing around talking about boyfriends, dating, laughing loudly, and making disparaging comments about patients coming in from the stream of EMTs. Right front of one patient, an admitting staffer said, "OH, she's a mess." Another admitting staffer reeled off a list of the troubles of another patient, then said, "ya know the whole nine yards." Meanwhile, EMTs coming in and admittance staff behind counter were swearing like sailors as they talks about this or that, dropping the F-bomb all over and laughing about all kinds of things--all with patients suffering right in front of them. It was the MOST UNPROFESSIONAL atmosphere I'd ever encountered. And now comes the the worst. The incompetent admittance staff apparently entered a lot of my information into the chart wrong! So when I finally went in to have my appendectomy, the surgeon comes in and he says, "Okay, so you are 200 lbs. and 5'11." I said "WHAT!" WAIT! No! What are you talking about? I'm 175 and 5'6." He says, "Are you sure because it says 200." I said, "yes, I'm sure. I want to be weighed for the anesthesiologist." Sure enough: 172.2 lbs, NOT 200. If they would've given me general anesthesia for a 200 lb man, I'd be dead right now and not writing this. Then, when they get me into the operating room, and the assistant doctor walks in, he says, "So we have Mohammad here, right?!" And I said, "NO!!!! My name is Richard!" By now, I'm thinking I'm never going to make it. Oh, and this was unreal--when I was FINALLY being taken to the operating room, the idiot taking me up didn't even know where the operating room was! And then once we finally found it, she didn't know the code to get behind the entrance door! And then, she was confused because she didn't know the difference between the operating room and pre-op. The support staff at this hospital are extraordinarily inept. And most of them can barely speak English. Once I finally was discharged (now here is the best part) I tried to access MyChart and found a completely empty chart. I called and was told that I had declined MyChart. But that was wring. I hadn't declined anything--I was never even asked about MyChart. Also wrong was: my name; my wife's name; my address, and other information. It was like the admitting staff wasn't even paying attention to the information being given. And most weird, AFTER I tell this woman on the phone that I am home and was discharged, she says to me: "Wait you are still in the hospital, right?" Apparently, the computer was still showing me as being in a room somewhere in the hospital. I said, "NO! I just told you I'm home." I witnessed all kinds of fights between staff and patients during my night in the Emergency Room, and one poor old guy who was screaming he was freezing was told, "Sorry, we don't have any more blankets." This is New York City and a major hospital has NO BLANKETS!!!! I'm just glad I am alive to write this. AWFUL HOSPITAL! And, to add insult to injury, the LOST the flowers my sister-in-law sent to me. And when I called the Emergency Room about them, they said call Security, when I called Security, they said "we don't keep flowers, talk to Emergency," and transferred me back to Emergency. When I told Emergency that Security had no flowers, they transferred me to the front desk to a terrifically rude person who said, "We don't have any flowers" and then, as I was trying to explain that the flowers had indeed been delivered & how could I find them, just hung up on me. [NOTE: The doctor who actually performed my surgery was excellent, as was my discharge nurse for recovery post op. It seems that it's the lower support staff that truly has no idea what they're doing.]

To be fair, minor downsides are waiting 10-20mins/visit (they're very busy, get there on time or, better, 15m ahead of time especially on the 1st visit to process the intake paperwork which recurs each time until insurance is successfully billed), not always getting the doctor, not just Dr. Sherry Shieh who's on long term medical leave her many fellow doctors make for confident treatment and knowledge.
