Craving Mexican food tonight so we checked out the closest cantina and I'm so glad we did because this place was great. The margaritas are well made with a generous pour of good tequila and the salsa was muy picante, just the way I like it. My combo of chile relleno and pork tamale was fantastico, the relleno was made with an Anaheim chile rather than the usual Poblano which made it a bit spicier and the tamale was full of delectable pork. The chile sauce over the combo also had a nice bite. The other combo was an unremarkable taco and a chile colorado burrito, the chile colorado was very flavorful. Service was fast and courteous. Thursday nite..... waited to get seated 20 minutes; ordered within 15 minutes.... Waited 45 minutes for our food; when served the plates were hot but the food was cold... the rice was crusty; I had a chimichanga and my husband had a burrito. Tasted terrible.... First time in last night. Service was great, all staff were on top of things whether it be a drink refill, plate removal etc ... When my plate was brought to the table, I took my fork out of the napkin it was wrapped in and noticed it was dirty, food still caked onto it ... gross. Asked for a new serving set. Food was mediocre ... the enchilada, beans & rice were ok, but I didn't care for the chicken taco. Left there unimpressed knowing I'd never go back ... That decision was reinforced at 3am when I woke up with stomach cramps and diarrhea. My 9 year old daughter has it too ... we ordered the same plate. Absolutely fantastic service! We came here for my little sisters birthday and left full and happy. While we were there my sisters meal wasn't correct and the manager took amazing care of us. She was literally the sweetest lady I have ever encountered in a service position. She went above and beyond to make sure my sisters 21st was amazing. So basically I choose the classic Carne asada plate with rice and beans and flour tortillas. Some would complain the steak was overdone but I like it well done with a slight crust. Beans were average, rice had been sitting around for awhile as there were quite a few crunchy pieces. Guadalajara Heights - Classic Carne asada plate - Mexican Near Me - Billings, Montana

This is the best Mexican restaurant I've tried so far. Being a california refugee, good Mexican food is the only thing I miss from that crap hole state. That being said, I tried the Guadalajara on the west end. It was ok (see review). This one is superbly different. They know how to make a Michelada properly. The food also was so much better. I had the steak Ala mexicana. They added fresh jalapeños for me on request. It was amazing. Rice had great flavor, beans as well. Service was excellent. Restaurant is clean and it was an overall great experience. Will definitely be back. read more

I ordered a menudo with corn tortillas. I noticed they were cold when i got them out the bag. I didn't expect them not to be cooked as well. I've given this place a chance more then once. Never again save your self the trip on this one. read more

There was the top of an avacado in my food. Bit down on it with a mouth full of food. Guess things happen. But I'm the one with the toothache still 3 hours later. When I mentioned it the waitress had the supervisor look at it. They said it was the little top on the avacado in the guacamole. There food isn't worth the toothache I still have. Absolutely horrible service tonight! The food was mediocre, but it took 20 minutes to get our drinks which were warm, watered down and wrong. Our request for a second small bowl of chips went unanswered for 15 minutes. We waited over a half hour for food and they only had two other tables in the whole restaurant. Dirty salt and pepper shakers, dirty drink special menu and don't look up because the ceiling fans look like that have not been clean in years. I ordered a chimichanga with enchilada sauce. The chimichanga looked and tasted like it was in a regular flour tortilla (not fried at all). The sauce was very bland. I was going to call this, "not bad...but not right". Now I'll call it 'Good Catch" Let me start by saying I am always nervous ordaring Mexican outside the Southwest...I've had some truly hideous Mexican in Toledo before. I was very pleasantly surprised to receive some good salsa with actual heat. good start! I ordered the #27 that has a chili rellano and tamale, the girl even repeated what I'd ordered. My food arrived with a "hot plate" warning, delivered by another server. I always start with the beans, if you can't get these right, there is little hope for you. These beans were just average, no better, a little disappointing after the salsa. The rice was about the same, not bad, but not a "wow" either. After poking around for a few minutes I realized thet whatever I had on my plate, it wasn't the #27. Several minutes had passed so I questioned if it would still be reasonable to point out the error. I tried whatever it was, it actually wasn't bad. Then something surprising happened...Leah my server came over and looked at my food, disappearing quickly then returned with the correct order. The server that brought the origin l plate apologized for the error. Chili rellano good, tamale good, I'd already had as much rice and beans as I wanted. Maybe it was a cook that caught it, maybe Leah, but I've received the wrong food before and the place I was at either did not notice or did not care to correct the error. All in all, not bad. I told Leah I was impressed. As always the question is...would I return? Definitely! Aside from a difference in opinion about what it takes to make outstanding rice and beans, everything else was enjoyable and well done, they even had Mexican music playing rather than the local pop station. read more

Well my second visit to this place in the Heights of Billings Montana was worse than the first visit. I knew better but was tired and hungry cheap for Mexican food. The old plastic and worn out water/tea glasses were really bad but I don't judge Mexican food restaurants by decor. Can"t tell how clean or dirty they are. Caught one of the waiters picking their nose and scratching feet. Food was really bad and worse than the pictures on the Web looks. Although I am 70 and not Mexican I can go to Albertsons grocery and get the basics and put out a much better Plate than I got. I also made mistake ordering cheese caeso as apetIsor that had very little taste of cheese caseo and the consistency was slightly thicker than butter milk. It was served in a large bowl and surrounded with over fried tortilla chips . The dinner plate tamale was beef not pork (never been served a tasteless shredded beef tamale and enchiladas were ground beef without onion or goat cheese and very little horrible chili sauce. To cap off this experience I could not figure out cashier's gender to say mam or sir so when I asked honestly which was correct (he or she) said however I wanted to interpret. Very good food. Consistently good taste. The prices are moderate and the salsa is at least tasty and it has a kick. The staff is friendly enough too. There are several locations in Billings and each one is a good choice. Try the 29 if you're hungry. read more
