I just found out that Mexico runs this far north! I thought since Montana was so close to Canada that I would be having some Acadian/Mexican. Boy was I wrong! I'm from San Diego and just about as close to the border as you can get. I don't know a stronger word to define authentic or I would use it! I've been in Billings Montana 20 years tried most of the Mexican restaurants here and hands down this place is it! They have a diverse menu the variety and the quality is outstanding! Excelente! I wouldn't doubt if the employees of the other Mexican restaurants in town come here to eat! Try it out! The address that was given in the Yelp app was incorrect. We went to Kings Rd address hat was noted & there was not a Mexican restaurant there; it was a small casino that was closed & did not have a restaurant. ??????? read more

Yuk. This place has gone downhill. Exactly what happens to every restaurant that goes in a casino. Mass made yuk slop with poor quality ingredients. Barely tasted corn in the tortillas, beans tasted like nothing, bland bland. Please get it together you used to be good. read more

The BEST Mexican food I've had in years! We had a tres amigos, shrimp cocktail, triple taco, a Macha burrito. And the fried shrimp appetizer!!! Absolutely get the appetizer, the seasoning and textures were unique and crave worthy! We're from out of town and never eat Mexican because we have plenty where we live. This restaurant is hands down the best we've had. It's in the flavor profile, we will miss you La Palmita!! I wish I had pictures but even they wouldn't have done the flavors justice. read more

First, the salsa that came out with the chips was really good. Not a lot of spice, but really tasty. The chips on the other hand were odd. They seemed to be different chips from different brands and mixed together. The chicken nachos were great. The macho burrito with chicken was great. I got two tacos with asada to try, something is just off with their Carne asada. I also tried their asada fries. The same with this, the asada was chopped into cat kibble type pieces. And the same odd flavor was their. The hot sauce that came on the side was very good, but not too spicy. The service was difficult, the language barrier was there. I hate being that person trying to figure out how to communicate. The restaurant itself is very open. We will try it again. I think this is a new location for this restaurant. read more

The salsa was very WATERY. All else was perfect, including the chili rellenos, chicken tostada, and shredded beef taco salad.

Had a chili relleno and the few bits of chili I could find were slimy mush. The plate was drowned in weak flavored green sauce and cheese. The hot sauce served on the dish side was good and the salsa served with the chips was fresh. Server was friendly and the place was clean. My guest claimed her tamale was the worst tamale she had ever had and she wondered if there was any meat in it. There was some nice meat chunks in the bland green sauce. read more

The plates were massive. I had two chile relleno meal, enough to take half home for another meal. The chips were too thick. The salsa was heavily cilantro. No red salsa without cilantro. It's unfortunate that the one star review was simply because of service. Lots of factors can contribute to slow service, and only one visit should not get a one star review. With that said, our service was excellent. Our waitress was very attentive and the restaurant was slammed! It was Cinco de Mayo so i am sure that had something to do with it but the food is so good that i would not be surprised if it was always this busy. my dad and i have been trying different Mexican restaurants in Billings, and hands down La Palmita is the best food in town! my dad ordered a beef tamale, cheese enchilada and beef taco served with rice and beans. His comment, "these are the best beans! And this tamale is very good!" i would agree the beans are great and the rice too. i ordered Birria Tacos, they serve 3 and they were outstandingly delicious!!! The chips and salsa are also great in fact i would say it's the best salsa in Billings. The atmosphere is inviting too with a nice size dining room and bar seating. Great authentic food! I got the quesobirria plato which comes with rice, beans and 3 birria tacos with consume! They also gave us each a free taco with our platos and I got the carnitas, AMAZING! Came here with the family. Son and family recently moved here to Billings. Their salsa and chips are delicious. I had the chicken enchilada with sour cream cheese sauce with flour tortillas instead of corn. I usually like my enchiladas with the green or red sauce. My mistake for reading the menu incorrectly but I found the enchiladas were still delicious. The rice was a little disappointing. It wasn't fluffy. Service was very nice.
