Once again came back second weekend in a row. Food was still excellent. The service seem to drop off a little bit but we had a different server and we had to ask for more chips and salsa, so whoever was working was not on the ball. Everybody in our party got the exact same thing except for me, I tried the Green chili enchiladas. They were quite tasty along with everything else. Still an enjoyable restaurant. The berria, (pronounced beer-e-u) which is the goat meat plate, which I tasted again and again was excellent. The homemade tortillas this time were a little hard on the edges from sticking out of the container, probably due to the fact that it was premade sitting somewhere stacked up and they just grab them. If you want to make big tortillas, you need a bigger container to hold them so that they don't dry out on the edges. Now I'm being a little bit more picky this time, but these things make a difference. I dedicated server for refilling chips and salsa and water or drinks, and keeping the homemade tortillas covered so they don't dry out. These things are important. read more

Completely disappointed. "Special" margarita was food coloring green and as much as I love margaritas, this was not drinkable. Beef fajita burrito was yucky as well. Beef tasted like vinegar. Oh my wow! Lots of food for the price that you pay. We knew this was the place when the parking lot was filled with cars adorned with Texas licence plates. Local love this place and we did too. I had the #42 plate. 1 taco, 1 chalupa, 1 enchilada. Yummy! I have to admit that all of the food was over salted. If you have blood pressure issues, be forewarned that your next heart attack is going to be totally worth it! The Bloody Mary wad weak, but was cool and refreshing. Great place for the kids and family to come, atmosphere is great. Average Mexicans tyke restaurant that you would find at any typical mainstream "Guadalajara" or "Jalisco" style food. Cons: Queso is not their best menu item, and I don't bother coming here if that's what I want. The chips are sometimes stale and sometimes the salsa is fresh/spicy. Carne guisada is dry, and tough. Rice and beans are pretty standard, does not taste homemade. Enchiladas are fairly dry. Pros: breakfast is great! I love their beans, and their tacos are fairly generous in size. read more

Authentic and Awesome Food Great place for the family to enjoy a good meal. My wife and I were headed to another Mexican restaurant near Guadalajara and discovered it was closed. We decided to here since it was so close. Woohoo! That was a great decision. The atmosphere was inviting and comfortable. There were families and small groups dining. That was a good indicator for us. Our waitress, Joanna, was very pleasant and as well as the other staff. They were ready and willing to assist us. Joanna give us time to look over the window and immediately available when we were ready for her. The food is very good. We have visited Mexico often and enjoyed the authentic food there. Guadalajara Mexican Grill reminded us of being in Mexico. The food was fresh and hot. It was not mass production food. The tortilla were made in house. My wife ordered the Grill Shrimp plate. She was thoroughly pleased. The shrimp were cooked well and seasoned well. I had the Chimichanga with fajita chicken. It was great. The Chimichanga was filled with fajita chicken and the tortilla shell was thin and not so heavy. It was more than I could eat. I give five stars because I am a local and for the most part, Guadalajara is consistent. Great service, great food, and great drinks. On a totally honest note, there are some waitresses who do not speak English (and I don't speak Spanish), but I love it! I meant ion this because I know there are some people who don't like that. Also, I always order their cheese enchiladas. Like seriously, I order the same thing any time I come in. But they are so good as are their rice and beans and salsa. This place is a rip off. I went to pay, and when they scanned my receipt, a dollar was automatically added. Why? I don't know. I let it slide. Went today. I went simply because of the glowing reviews. I'll take it point by point here...I'm not one for leaving bad reviews but when the place merits it I do. Upon arrival we were seated quickly, fresh chips and salsa arrived. The salsa was good, it's made in house it tastes like. The waiter came and took our drink orders. On the menu there's a difference in price for "medium and large" drinks. I believe it was .50 - not a huge deal but it's a nickel and dime thing I think, for the table it was an additional 2 bucks (more on this later). Considering we had tea which has free refills it wouldn't have mattered to us to drink from medium glasses. He didn't offer a choice of sizes. Noise level, I know that a restaurant can't control patrons but they can ask a particularly unruly table to tone it down. Oy vey there were two unruly tables of intoxicated adults, I saw at least 4 more drinks delivered there. The tables are crammed very closely together as well, I actually bumped elbows with the lady at the table beside us a few times; this can be controlled by the restaurant by removing some tables. Our waiter came for our order, it was obvious that he had no desire to be there, much less taking our order. I realize everyone has crappy days, I've had my share of them but when you're in a service industry you should at least make an effort. My son and I discussed which type of nachos, he snapped "which will it be?" he wasn't waiting on our decision as my daughter was ordering at that time. Our orders came in an appropriate amount of time. Daughter ordered a cheeseburger, she got a Sysco quality frozen patty cooked on the griddle, the cheese was a cold slice of fake cheese on another plate. I had enchiladas which were decent but the beans were very obviously canned as was the enchilada sauce. Son had nachos, we were charged 2 bucks for a dollop of sour cream. (Again, nickel and dime) I asked if my plate came with tortillas as it was a Mexican plate. It didn't and I was rudely informed of this. Two tortillas were .79 (more nickel and dime) - they were Sysco quality and warmed in the microwave. When I was paying I wanted a to go cup, .50 for a styrofoam cup. Got the rib eye and an enchilada. Food was delicious except for one thing--there was an unusual spice in the rice that I didn't like too much. I'm from the Rio Grande Valley and I know how to cook authentic Mexican rice but I love the Tex-Mex rice restaurants serve. This one had a different taste that was just enough to limit my enjoyment. Otherwise I'd have given them five starts. Meat was tender and rice fully cooked. Chips were awesome! Salsa was ok--I prefer pico de gallo. Service was not great--I had to ask for someone to take my order and after getting it, no refill offered on my drink at all and waitress never came by, didn't even look my way to see if I needed anything. My total should have been $4.78 plus tax but my total ended up being $8.09, almost $4 per breakfast taco. We've eat here for years and ouch today I wonder who is in charge? Because the line to pick up food was not being manned. We sat in line to pick up a order for 30 minutes and I would have just left but couldn't- we were blocked in by a pillar. I had to leave my vehicle and go in and let them know no one was at window. The older lady who only acted like she understood Spanish rolled her eyes and asked someone to check the window. Then started back to looking over her tickets at register. I had to get my order from inside and then it got better the same lady was mad at me for asking to check my order because I wanted to make sure it wasn't soggy from sitting there. For being so much older no one taught her manners. She drank from her drink and said that it wasn't her fault- and again rolled her eyes. I asked for a manager and she said" we don't have a manager here, and shrugged her shoulders, laughing. It was probably her, then I asked for her name and she said that she couldn't give that out. Today, I decided to try out Taqueria Guadalajara that is located on Ben Jordan close to the UHV campus. The meal I'll be having is a Ground Beef Chimichanga with a Sweet Tea. My server brings out the tea and its in a particularly large cup. I think it's a little much. The decor is nice and there is a great amount of space; however, it feels like there is too many tables on the floor. There is also a ceiling fan located close to a built in light causing these rapid eclipses that are giving me a slight headache. I'm eating my meal and the chips that they gave me as a starter are paper thin. They also have a store bought quality to them. The meal was mediocre in my opinion. It met my expectations of good food; but not my expectations of Tex Mex. read more

We attended a birthday party here with about 20-25 guests. The hosts and servers were very accommodating by setting us up with a long and side table. Before during and after our meal our servers were spot on with refilling our drinks, salsa bowls (excellent salsa by the way), and chips. I assumed the food delivery would be a disaster as we had one primary server and a gang of hungry people. Total opposite occurred. The food arrived hot and fresh with minimal lags in the delivery. Most everyone agreed the food was OK but not great. I ordered the Barbacoa and it was passable. A little too greasy and a few bits of bone in the meat had me chewing cautiously. A few people had enchiladas and they said they were very good. Overall a pretty good authentic Mexican restaurant in Victoria one that I would probably return to if I lived in the area. read more
