The service is outstanding! The food and tortillas made need a little work. The tortillas are huge but heavy. Not sure if it was a temperature or recipe. But both corn and flour are from scratch. The carne guisada is great and I highly recommend. The chilaquiles plate I ordered needs help. The temperature was warm at best and lacked flavor. Compared to the carne guisada I was surprised they came from the same kitchen. UPDATE. Just got my bill. $2 tea with no refills and $2 for one egg scrambled into the chilaquiles. I would hate to see what they charge for flavor. Also a Carne Guisada taco for $3.25 is steep. Maybe try another place. I will say the only thing keeping Don Jose at 3 stars is the cleanliness and service. read more

Food is ok, but the wait service is terrible! Walked in the other day with my elderly dad and my son to eat a late lunch, when the waitress who came to take our order got upset that we sat ourselves at a larger table with only 3 in our party. We would have sat at a table for 4 but most of those tables were not cleaned off. We counted at least 6 of those tables were not cleaned. She joked about them not being cleaned but continued to be rude when taking our order. My dad was so bothered by her rudeness and wanted to leave! Never taking him back there again... Chances are we'd get served by her again, and her manners were awful. Such a disappointment! read more

Short wait at the drive thru on a Sunday morning when half the town is closed. Sweet girl at the window Super helpful, nice, & and great attitude. Read me back my order & very polite & funny too. Park in the back and brought it out to the car. Asked for red and green salsa & received plenty of both. 20 for 6 combination tacos might be a little on the pricey side. This is a happening place, and the locals love it. In fact, I think it's a Victoria secret....good thing I can't keep secrets!! The carne guisada is the best we've ever had, the fajita nachos are heaven in your mouth, the enchiladas are authentic, the taco salad the exact way you want it (throw in whatever ingredients you want), and the menudo...okay, I haven't every tried that, but there is always someone eating a big bowel of it every time we come here. This is our Saturday "go to" restaurant, and we love the team of servers. Do yourself a favor....try it. The locals are right. read more

Salsa was liquid from a squeeze ketchup bottle, but tastes really good. Ordered beef fajita plate with corn tortillas. They had s $5 lunch special but I don't really like chicken enchiladas so ordered my standard fajita plate. It was a bit more than other places closer to home, price was $12.99 Came out with rice, beans, guacamole and pico on a sizzling plate Pico had a distinct citrus flavor I really liked. Beef fajitas had diced sausage cut up and fried in with beef, onions etc.. Very unique flavor. Guacamole I did not really like the flavor of. Rice and beans are standard flavor. Got my order wrong. Flautas were hard as a rock. Rice was refrigerator cold. Place was not at all busy but drinks sat empty for most of the meal. The ladies were very friendly but not very attentive. The enchiladas are some of my favorite in town. It's better to go than eating in the restaurant. read more

Top 10 if not top 5. Food: I thought about getting a couple burritos but got the "chorizo and egg plate" which came with flour tortillas and I made 4 huge tacos... OMGee!!! Like others have said the outside of the building had me hesitant about dining there but boy was I surprised! My daughter got the pancakes and out of all of the pancakes I have ever eaten, these were the best! Please pretty please try their pancakes! My husband and I thoroughly enjoyed our breakfast as well (try the homemade corn tortillas) but what we were most impressed with was our waitress Nicole! She checked on us a multitude of times and conversed with my daughter in such a sweet manner...made our daughter feel included and grown up! We will be coming here again! read more

Well I just don't know. I've eaten breakfast here before and it was between OK and good. Lot's of food for you money, but this evening I ordered the single serving beef fajitas for pick up. I won't be ordering these again. The fajitas, bell pepper and onions were pan fried. These should be charbroiled or cast iron skillet fried at the least. The refried beans just weren't appetizing, didn't finish them and up to this point I hadn't eaten in 30 hrs. The lettuce and tomato were good but the guacamole on top ruined them. All it takes is one bad/rotten avocado to ruin your guacamole sauce. Didn't finish that either. I found myself wanting more of the rice to fill up. It wasn't authentic mexican rice but at least it was palatable. The tortilla was OK. Next time I'll take the $15 and try their hamburgers. read more

I love this place! I have been stuck on one particular breakfast burrito. Bacon,egg,potato& beans,its alwsys a winner. Perfectly balanced. I ventuted out and tried a lunch special. Also very good. Dont normally like rice in my burittos but Don Jose did it right. It was stuffed with beef rice and topped with a cheesy chili sauce & lettuce & tomatoes. . Came with chips & hot sauce. All I have to say about this place is homemade tortillas and Carne guisada. Their tacos are larger than most other places (for the price) and if you are in a hurry it is a good idea to call before you go. This is hands down my favorite taco place in Victoria. This place was horriable i tried the carne gasuda which everybody yelp was good. It was tough and i couldnt even taste any cumino or garlic, the nachos where plain jane. Now there hot sauce was right on then they explained they had a hotter one well all it was is oily hot no flavor. The teenage son had cheese enchiladas and said they where good but i dont know if you can use that as a example because they pretty much eat anythin that doesnt bite first. Didn't try salsa because it's made with pickled jalapenos and I cannot have that. Waitstaff was very informative on ingredients when I told her our allergies.
