Rice amazing and service amazing and the food good enchiladas so good it's just amazing

I sincerely wanted this place to have good Mexican food. No... not just good food, I wanted it to have amazing food. I wanted to give it a five star review and support local restaurants and the families who run them. Sadly, that did not happen. My first clue should have been the empty parking lot. Let's be honest, an empty parking lot at a restaurant at 6:30 pm is never a good sign. Granted, it was a Thursday evening but... no cars? The second clue should have been the fact that the restaurant didn't even smell like food when I entered. I mean, don't restaurants normally smell like the food they are cooking? You would think that, unless of course they are opening a can of this and a can of that and throwing it in the microwave. The food was unpalatable. I'm not exaggerating. Oh sure, it was hot, but then again, so is poo when it comes out of the wagging end of a dog. Everything - EVERYTHING, from the rice and refried beans, to the Carne Asada burrito was completely flavorless. I have no idea how that happens. How does that happen? I mean, Taco Bell is disgusting, but at least it has flavor. Well, I tried to remedy the situation by using Tabasco sauce, in the end, I took three bites, gave up, and asked for my check. I gave them one star because the service was great. They were attentive and kind and the food was awful. I am hoping the owners will read this review and take drastic steps to improve the quality of their food. You should never leave a Mexican restaurant and think to yourself, "Gee, I wonder if there's a Taco Bell near by, I am still really hungry." read more

Buffet is EXCELLENT! Definitely worth the drive to the south of town. Chile rellenos are the highlight of the show, but the chile verde, beans, and salsa are also among the best I have had in Idaho. Price was $9.50 during the week and $10.50 on weekends for the lunch buffet which included menudo! Everything I tried was very good. I have dined at most of the mexican restaurants in Burley (Aguila, Mirador, El Caporal) and Guadalajara's food is by far my family's favorite. In terms of service, they all have good and bad days, but one thing that I have learned is that you cant be afraid to ask if you need something. Overall, great job Guadalajara! read more

A friend and I decided to go to this place. I was famished so I went for the buffet (thinking I would get my money's worth!) Anyway, the buffet was nothing spectacular. I tried everything but the beans and rice. The tortillas were fabulous. Ended up with MAJOR GI issues for that day, as well as the next. If you eat here, take some Zantax before your done and expect standard (or below) taste from the buffet. Never again. Had to wait quite awhile for my drink order. Lots of help there, but pretty disorganized. Hispanic culture seems to love this place, but I'm not into searching for pork through the skin of a pig. Just my take on this establishment. read more

Food was slow. It took at least 30min to get my order of Carne Asada. I guess that's not long, but coming from LA where you can get BOMB Carne Asada in half that time, it's strange. I went in and they automatically had a bad attitude the service was awful. The man who took my order was very rude and he did not listen to what I was asking for. He added 2 extra tacos on the receipt that I didn't not nor even got served on my plate I told the man about it and he gave me an attitude and walked away. The food was not that good and I got sick from their salsa I do not recommend this Mexican restaurant! read more

Used to love this place way way back over 20 years ago. But after so a few times of my food being brought from mistakenly taken to someone else's table, eaten out of and then brought to me, I am so disgusted by how little they care and disorganized. Plus the cleanliness of the restaurant is not great. Many people love this place but I just can't understand how. read more

My husband and I have been going to Guadalajara Restaurant since early 2001 and have loved every meal that we have eaten here. We live in Boise and have driven just to eat here. During our early days of courtship, I lived in Salt Lake and he in Burley and would meet half way and would eat all meals at Guadalajara for the weekened. This is one of those places you want to keep and have all your Mexican meals with fresh tortillas and enchiladas, chile rellenos , and burritos everything is great. We also appreciate Maria she is an amazing also. There is no competition except in the country of Mexico. Thank you for all the years of great meals especially to the cook. read more

This place is lit for Mexican food! I've only really ever ordered huge burritos here but I have had some shrimp and tacos and other Mexican foods with family members. They are all so lit! The staff is friendly, the deep fried ice cream isn't deep fried but super amazing. My only complaint is that sometimes you have to speak Spanish to order your food and that is a headache. 10/10 doge much reccomend read more

I have been here twice. First time: I was there for the buffet and it was pretty good. They had someone making fresh tortillas and there was an abundance of food I would actually eat. The price was fair and the service was up to par. Second time: What the heck happened? I had a chicken taco combination and my wife had a taco, tamale, and enchilada combination. Chicken tacos - The chicken and sauce were ok, but in an authentic Mexican restaurant please use non-preformed taco shells. Preformed shells are just a cheap lazy way out of making a quality product. The beans and rice are nothing to write home about either. Tamale - I'm not big on tamales in the first place, but my wife loves the damn things and I can't figure out why. Maybe because she's Mexican. When I looked at my wife's plate, only one bite was taken out of her tamale and she refused to answer me when I asked how it tasted. (Didn't want to disturb others at the table that were enjoying this slop.) Once in the car and by ourselves, she let me know exactly how bad they were. Enchilada - I can only compare theirs to my wife's and my mother-in-law's homemade ones, which are different believe it or not. Unfortunately, I would rather have McDonalds make and form an enchilada with pure pink slime, then throw it away and let me dig it out of the dumpster and eat it before I would take another bite of this restaurant's enchiladas. That's how bad it is! Service: Our server was Gustavo, who appeared to be a good guy with a short temper. I don't know him personally so I cannot be sure, but he seemed to get irritated quickly when my kids were ordering which doesn't sit well with me. As for the other review here, of course locals will like it, not much to choose from in Burley. Looking for a good taco? Go down the street to the taco truck, great price and taste. Very surprisingly good buffet. Reasonably priced with very flavorful items. Food was kept filled and the fresh cooked tortillas were great. My wife said it was the first molé she has ever liked. I loved the chicken that was roasted with a great rub of spices. And the rice was also good. Rice should be so easy but it seems most can't do it right. This was spot on. I was expecting ok food and was blown away by the quality and flavor of the buffet. I recommend eating lunch there. read more

This place is very good. The buffet has a nice selection, reasonably priced, good taco bar, pork ribs good. By far, the best thing about this place is the homemade tortillas, corn and flour, made by hand in front of you by an abuela. We ordered 2 dozen to take with us. The restaurant is a little dirty, bathrooms sketchy, but the food makes up for it. read more

Bland. No spice in chimichanga or chili relleno. GI upset starting a couple of hours after eating. Very friendly staff, though inattentive. I was the only customer, probably a clue there, and was not given a menu for 10+ minutes. Long wait. Chimichanga appeared to be manufactured and relleno looked like an omelet supposedly with a poblano pepper that was MIA. I doubt that I will return as I pass through town. read more

first time here, was greeted at the door but it was very uninviting, we sat down, the guy took our order, he came back in less than 2 minutes and was urging us to order, (very uncomfortable) Our food arrived in about 20 minutes, it was partially cold, and they got our order wrong 2x , after they fixed our order they didn't even bother talking to us anymore, they made threatening eye contact, (i'm sorry, they got my order wrong) The environment was not original and very outdated, and of course the costumer service was terrible, we didn't finish eating our food and just left. Not worth going to. There seems to be quite a few Mexican restaurants in the area to try. Food was poor, loaded with mozzarella cheese. For a sit down restaurant, the menu as full as you usually find in a Mexican restaurant. Came by here passing through town and had dinner- it was the worst decision I've ever made. Should have known to left when we saw the fold up chairs they used. Our service was absolutely awful. I felt forgotten about. They acted swamped and understaffed, but never appeared to be working (ex: waitress playing with her kid, cooks coming out to watch tv) wouldn't make eye contact when we desperately needed service. Waited 20+min with my card out to pay and had to go to the cashier and wait for workers to ignore me STILL. I work as a waitress, always tip well and am understanding, however there were no excuses for how we were treated. The food was awful. It seemed instant and microwaved. My boyfriend had chimichangas and I had enchiladas. It was the worst Mexican food either of us have had. And no cheese dip? Maybe we came at a bad time, but I don't see how this place could have ANY good reviews. read more
