Tonight is the first night of graduation week in St. Andrews. Families are celebrating their graduates. They are looking for a memorable meal to mark the occasion. Having a negative experience can have the opposite effect. The Steak Barn provided just the underwhelming experience tonight. Fortunately five others in a seven person party enjoyed their food. The worst part of the meal was the flat iron steak. The cut was under done, even when I sent it back. The cut was chewy and tough, not what I expected from 20 gbp steak (~$30). Management needs to step in a control quality and provide more training to their young staff. Maybe they just had a bad night. It happens. Having a bad night on a special occasion is less forgivable.

Very hearty and rich and warm for anyone wanting a good comfort food to keep them warm on a cold day. Soup of the day- Potato Leek- This soup was also pretty good. Add a dash of pepper on top and you're set to go. Not too creamy and not too watery, flavor was just right. 5 a Day Salad- Definitely recommend this if you're someone tired of the Caesar or typical house salad- this one is one of the most unique blends I've ever seen. It had avocado (unripe, you can taste the weird watery texture), green grapes, tomatoes, lettuce, and some red kinda veggie that I wasn't a fan of. But if you need greens, this is the way to go. Service: you order at the bar counter and then sit down. Our waiter was attentive enough. Friendly enough staff so they get a 4/5 for service. Bang for buck: 5/5 2 main courses for 10.99??? On our four day stay in one of the rented nearby cottages we where literally two minutes walk to the bar from the house, with three of the days we ended up here on most days at lunch time till close. Food is served at lunch times and the evenings and also we ate here three days out of four, and the food was pretty good serving the likes of Fish & chips, macaroni cheese and burgers to name a few. The bar area is small, and choice was limited, but I think this was due to the location, and locals didn't seem to go out drinking. Overall we had a great time here, and would recommend The Inn at Kingsbarns to anyone that was passing through or staying nearby.
