    Steak pie

This weary traveler made a beeline for Balgove Larder upon arrival in St. Andrews and while I have only been here for 15 minutes I still strongly recommend. So many delightful provisions to stock up with, and a cafe to fortify oneself until check in time! I ordered the steak pie - simple and filling. The seasonal vegetables were wilted greens. It's loud and busy and happy in here. The service is very friendly.

GO TO THEIR STEAK BARN! Don't walk, RUN! This is the coolest concept, we absolutely loved it!! It is literally a giant barn, and there is a black curtain that you walk through to an open room of amazingness. They have loads of community tables, GREAT food, yummy drinks, and all around good vibes. This was such a fun place for kiddos and also to come as a group. I would highly recommend, especially if you're a steak lover! We had their meat and cheese board, truffle parmesan fries (YAAAAS!), and a grilled tomato. I wish that I was hungry enough for steak but we had a large lunch so weren't super hungry. You better believe i'll be back for that!

One of our very favorite accidental finds! Superb food at the Steak! Freshly prepared and wonderfully cooked. Best burgers in Scotland! Lived the Cumberland sausage and the twice-fried potatoes are awesome!

Great place to hang out. Staff was very friendly and food was very very tasty. We had to wait 30 minutes to get a table but that wasn't a problem because we're we're able to get done drinks and hang outside while waiting for a table. Ordered some appetizers that were amazing. My steak turned out cooked the way I wanted. Everyone enjoyed their dinner.

Found out about this place while we were at Eden Brewery for a beer tasting event. There is a Steak Shack on site which serves tasty tasty meat in a giant shed.. not the warmest place to sit on a slightly blowy day, but the onion rings were worth it! The actual larder store is amazing, stocked with all sorts of tasty treats from cordials to gin, fresh meat to spice rubs.. it really could be a one stop shop! If only we had a car, I probably would've bought the entire store.. so it's probably a good thing we didn't have a car...

    Walled garden and spicy pizza

This is a part of their new installation called The Pizza Box. Arguably the best wood fired pizza in St Andrews. Worth the walk and tastes great!

A great market for finding a specialty food or beer. Cheeses, meats, gourmet spices, etc....the fresh breads looked delicious and if you get hungry walking around the market just head over the the barn next door. Incredible steaks and daily specialties at reasonable prices. Check out my picts as that'll better describe this amazing and unique market/restaurant

My FAVORITE restaurant in St Andrews. Never disappointed with my steak and chips. You'll want to come here every night. Fairly priced and you get a good slab of meat. Not to mention easy to park and great cocktails.

Our server explained how to the Sunday roast ordering worked. We watched the kitchen work, while we waited for our meals. Our Sunday roast meals came with medium rare beef roast, crispy on the outside and creamy soft inside potatoes, carrots, cabbage, a head of roasted garlic, a very large deeply browned Yorkshire pudding, and the most delicious gravy in a small pot. Every drop of that gravy was eaten. I think that the Yorkshire pudding exists to be a vehicle for the gravy. I really did not need any dessert after all that food. But we wanted to share an ice cream. We asked what was clotted cream ice cream. The server explained that the ice cream is made with clotted cream, which has a fat content of 60% and there's no other flavoring. It is not a common ice cream flavor. So that's what we had. The tiny beads of fat in the ice cream was very interesting. It had a sweet cream flavor. The ambiance was upscale with a lot of wood on the walls and furnishings. But at least on Sundays, we saw a lot of families and friend gatherings and did not seem exclusive.

Tried the ribeye steak -- perfectly cooked, flavorful, and exactly what I was hoping for. My wife really enjoyed her chicken and sweet potato as well. Overall, a great spot and worth the visit. Sunday Roast: All the standards, but fancy. The really differentiator was the beef, which seem aged and very high quality. Great tender texture and nice gravy to go with it. Though a wee bit small portion of meat. The veggies were cooked very nicely with a lot of freshness and textures, not mushy like some pubs serve. The only weird thing is that the yorkshire pudding seemed to be deep fried. Added an overly crispy texture which as kinda weird; I prefer traditionally baked. Toffee Apple Pudding: More like a bread pudding than a sticky pudding. Filled with great flavor and a few nice baked apples bit on top. Great toffee sauce and ice cream to round it out. Blackberry & Lime Soda: So much better than those highly sugared sodas you get at the store. Definitely tasted the fresh fruit and artisanal methods.

There were a few other parties present so the room was loud but had interesting decorations with mail carrier bags and newspaper articles (someone clearly spent a lot of time on decorations, especially with the flowers at the front). Our waiter was attentive throughout the meal and I ordered the following: -fish and chips (4/5): beautifully cooked w crispy batter and glistening fish but they forgot that final coating of salt that ties the whole meal together. I added salt and it definitely elevated the dish but this is a pretty significant oversight so I'm rating the dish based on what was presented to me. The chips were thick, crispy and well seasoned and the tartare sauce was tasty and peas interesting and good. Overall, solid fish and chips but I'm hopeful I can find better in the UK. -highland sling (4.25/5) : a refreshing and fruity raspberry drink but nothing memorable restaurant. -sticky toffee pudding (3/5): as soon as the dish came out, I knew it was dry. 'Sticky' is literally in the description and this pudding was not that. The flavor was decent but this was a disappointing end to the meal. Overall, Forgan's has a Beautiful walkway entrance with flowers and plants, great service and serves decent food.
