This establishment is more of a child bootcamp rather than a daycare and learning center. Children are forced to go to the bathroom upon arrival, there are timers for meal times, children are not allow to eat breakfast after 8am, they fully secure the doors between 9am and 4pm in which if you come in during this time you end up waiting for someone to come let you into the door for 20+ minutes. Their communication response times is terrible - I once called 7 times, messaged in the app, and sent an email and then had to wait 20+ mins at the door for someone to answer - WHILE THEY HAD MY CHILDREN IN THEIR CARE! Their owner/director doesn't communicate back to you. I had to ask them to speak welcoming and warm to my children at arrival!!! Who has to ask for teachers to be warm and welcoming!!!??? They are the ONLY daycare in the area that has video surveillance. My daughter comes home every day telling me how much she loves her teachers and singing songs to me in Spanish. The community that exists at Little Steps is inclusive and inviting. We have a very special situation with our daughter, and Little Steps accommodated her without a minute of hesitation. Since going to Little Steps, my child's behavior has improved and she now has a natural schedule that helps us all function better as a family. The people that look after our children are dedicated and loving. My daughter looks forward to attending every day. I love Little Steps and when my baby is born, he will attend as well.

I was already living here, so I tried to find a place before he arrived with no luck. I wanted a daycare with a curriculum and most of the ones I'd called had a waiting list. That's when he stumbled upon Another Adventure. I trusted his judgement on the school because he went in for the tour. But I knew there was a problem the first time that I picked my son up from his new school. When you walk into the facility, the first smell that hits you is this rank urine odor. Which would be normal every now and again. But this was everyday. Every. Single. Day. It was disgusting. One would at least think that on a Monday it would smell clean because they must sanitize on Fridays or over the weekend. But no, it ALWAYS smelled this way. My second issue was the fact that my son had been potty training before he started going to this school. And he was doing very well. But after going to this school, he just stopped forward progression with potty training. Which was odd to me because his teachers kept telling me they were taking him to the potty at school. I found out this was a lie. I came in early to pick him up (usually I get off around the same time, but I was done for the day about 2-3 hours early one day.) When I come to pick up my son, his diaper was so full of poop and pee, it soaked through his clothes. When I confronted the director about it, she said it was because he had ran out of diapers the previous day...??? But I'd left diapers for him that morning. So I asked how often they took the kids to go potty, and she said every two hours they change their diapers. But I told her that I had been told he was being taken to the potty. And she told me they couldn't because he didn't have underwear at school. Dumbest thing I'd ever heard in my life. They continued doing this trend from September of 2018-the beginning of March 2019. The last major thing I noticed that made me withdraw my son from this facility was his overall progression and development. My son was doing well before he started at Another Adventure as far as learning new things (words, colors, shapes, how to do different things, etc.) But he became stagnant here. He screamed and screamed every morning I dropped him off before I'd go to work. And he would just stare out into space when I picked him up from school everyday. To me, that's not normal. Children typically adjust to a new place after 2-3 weeks more or less. But he never adjusted because he hated it. And I hated that I wasn't able to pull him out sooner because no one else had room for him. Other things I absolutely hated about this place was the teachers. Some of them are nice, but a lot of them I noticed that worked in my sons classroom were very rude and mean. I'd walk in to one yelling at the children, picking them up incorrectly (by their arms or just snatching them); I walked in to my son crying several times and asked the teacher what's wrong or what happen and her response was "I dunno." There diaper changing/ potty routine is questionable. They'd have several of the kids with their pants and underwear/pull-up down around their ankles just standing around waiting to be changed or to go potty. This seems like it'd create a huge issue because most of the kids can't talk and few know about good touch/bad touch. With as many children as their are in that classroom, an instructor wouldn't know if one of the kids touched another inappropriately. And if so, they're fostering an environment to where it's easy to do so. Please do not take your little ones here. I allowed my son to be here too long because I couldn't find someone with a vacancy in the area. But I've since transferred him to somewhere else that's a little longer of a drive everyday, but it's worth it because he's back to himself again.

Unfortunately, after they both moved on to bigger and better things, the quality of care at Avant declined drastically once Wanda became involved in daily operations. Both of my children were expelled, with the daycare claiming they couldn't handle my son's behavior -- but many of those issues were created by how they treated him. He was often isolated, bribed with staff's personal electronics without our permission, and even placed with staff's older children (who weren't employees) as playmates. His teacher seemed disengaged, sometimes wearing headphones, and the classroom lacked structure or meaningful teaching. When we asked to see video footage after they reported a "bad day," the footage conveniently disappeared. Instead of setting healthy boundaries, they relied on tablets and then blamed us for his behavior. The owner expelled him mid-day, ignoring her own handbook procedures. At his new school, he is thriving. With patient teachers and clear, positive boundaries, he has adjusted beautifully. This confirms what we suspected all along: the problem was not our child, but the lack of professionalism and structure in this daycare. Parents deserve to know this before enrolling their kids.

The Good - Our dog seems to enjoy going to Barks and always comes back 100% exhausted (assumingly…read morebecause he has so much fun). We have had generally positive interactions with the staff and the facility seems fairly nice from what we can see. The cage-less atmosphere is a big plus for us. The Bad- You're almost guaranteed to have to pay additional fees for boarding (for those with traditional work or vacation trip schedules). For boarding you can't do a morning check-in or an afternoon/evening check-out without paying an extra $15 fee for each on top of the $50 per night fee. You can't pick your dog up on Sundays at all unless you make pre-arrangements and pay another $15 fee. The Ugly- We felt pretty scammed on our last boarding. We dropped him off Friday for a 1-night stay and were told we could pick him up anytime before 7pm the next day (the front desk girl even said "Saturday? Anytime before 7"). But we received a call at 6:15pm the next day asking when we were coming to pick up our dog because they were closing (they told us the girl at the front desk made a mistake and they don't stay open until 7pm on Saturdays). We said we were 15 minutes away, our GPS said we would be there at 6:30pm. They said they were sorry about the mistake, but that was too long to wait and we would have to pick him up the next morning. We weren't thrilled, but mistakes happen, ok. First thing the next morning we went to pick them up and the front desk girl (the one who had said 7pm) was very apologetic, but then CHARGED us both for the 2nd night we didn't want AND a Sunday pickup fee. Blown away, I asked "are you really charging us for the 2nd night?". She called what I assume was the manager and they took off the Sunday pickup fee but still charged us the extra $50 for the extra night. Might be a little over-dramatic, but it really felt like they held our doggo hostage and then demanded ransom to get him back. We paid it, but we really lost our trust in Barks with this. We'll probably try to avoid Barks in the future if we can. The ???- every time we pick our pup up from boarding, he drinks a comical amount of water. It's probably because he's too busy running around with the other dogs to drink, but we do hope they have water bowls out for the dogs at all times.
