There is a very nice little planetarium (the Scidome), and viewing a show is included in the price of admission. We saw "From Earth to the Universe," which provided a crash course on astronomy throughout history and a look at our galaxy and the universe. The first floor of the space features a lot of interactive and hands-on activities, such as building a circuit, learning about your body, building and racing cars from objects like Legos, plus a 6-and-under play area. The hot shop is also located in this area, and it was very interesting to watch them work with the hot glass (and a very pleasant space to be in on such a cold day!) Upstairs is a wealth of local and regional historical information for Newark and Licking County and its citizens and discoveries. A giant mastadon skull greets you as you come up the stairs, as the Burning Tree Mastadon was found in the county. The Jerrie Mock exhibit, complete with a flight simulator and a replica of her airplane, the Spirit of Columbus, was extremely popular with the kids. (Jerrie Mock, a Newark native, was the first woman to fly solo around the world). A little historic village, complete with cash registers, scales, and games is also available to walk through on this level. Given the weather, we didn't spend as much time out in the courtyard as we probably would have otherwise, but we definitely made it over to the building housing the interurban railway car, the back end of which you can walk in and look around the interior of. There's also a really well done mural on the topic out by the parking lot. Staff was friendly and welcoming, and the museum was clean and comfortable. There is plentiful parking outside. A small gift shop, including items made in the hot shop, is available near the entrance.

My niece loves to go to another children's museum in a nearby city. Unfortunately, it's a little…read morepricey for what it has to offer beyond your 1st visit & there is very little for adults to interact with & engage. We recently went to Cosi 1 weekend instead. The Works is hands down a better experience than the other children's museum. This is now her favorite of the 3 places we've been. Unfortunately, the glass blowing was closed for routine maintenance & we have plans to return when open again. The bottom floor houses the small planetarium & hands on exhibits & play areas for kids & upstairs is more informative displays of the local area, the Works history & a brief technology over view. I've heard there's a café associated with the museum across the outdoor area but we didn't look into that the day we were there. 10/10 recommend a visit if you're in the area & looking for something new, fun & educational for kids to do.

It is Eye Candy galore! There is a history lesson here, if you choose to partake, & rows upon rows of glass displayed by color batch in beautifully lit cases. Then there little nooks of separate displays & a Victorian style dining room set for Christmas dinner. Swoon! The Volunteers who work here, yes - they are all volunteers, are exemplary. Their knowledge of the pieces & of the glass making processes will "blow" you away! Everytime I've visited I've left knowing something I didn't know before. There is a small gift shop at the front & they will happily box your item & even ship! You do have to pay for shipping. They are truly experts at packaging items safely. I've had several boxes shipped to my home in Atlanta without any problems at all! Great Job Volunteers! The building is not super exciting from the exterior but you're wise enough not to judge a book by its cover! There is a small private parking lot just for the museum next to the building so usually there's no trouble with parking. Word to the wise: you will be here longer than you thought you would. If George isn't "into" glass, tell him go get a sandwich & come back in 2 hours! Also, this isn't a good place for children unless they are EXTREMELY well behaved & I mean it. They wouldn't have much fun here so why put yourself through it. Your experience here will be a memory of a lifetime. My ancestors worked in the glass factory in Cambridge many years ago which I'd never known until just a few years ago thanks to some great volunteers who shared that with me so I have many reasons to hold Cambridge dear to my heart. This place could use a good cleaning and better lighting but my kids didn't notice any of that. They noticed the Spider-Man and the Statue of Liberty and all the other displays built with Legos! I was definitely impressed by some of the things they had on display. This is a fun place to check out even if you don't have kids.

There is a lift for wheelchairs. There is a play room to build Lego things. You can touch nearly every display, which is unusual. Please don't break them. There was a room we could not enter because some kids climbed under the rail and destroyed a display. This place is fun and fascinating and it was well worth, more than worth the three hour drive for us to get there. You really should go. I thought it was better than Legoland. On a side note...I had two GPS units running and they both told me I had arrived when I was still two blocks away.

It's not more than a 20 minute drive off Interstate 70. The proprietor, Steve, and his friend Vickie were working this evening. They were very friendly and accommodating. I had called earlier in the day to make sure they were open and he gave me detailed directions to find him. The museum is a fairly decent size collection of macabre artifacts and allegedly haunted items. There is a good collection of prison memorabilia. Plenty of explanatory signs for each. If you want to know more, Steve is more than willing to discuss what he knows. I really appreciated his sincerity and passion for The collection is in an older school building turned community center, which frankly was slightly creepy itself. This was just a very fun detour off the highway and well worth the time. Fun fact: you go through Glen Dale, WV to get there: hometown of Brad Paisley and George Brett if that interests you at all.
