Well -- BOOOM -- what do you know, I was way off ! I was here for the SOAR event Aug 31st at the Technical college to help bring broadband to the area, which the Governor and Chairman Hal Rogers also attended ...and this hotel was very nice in every way. The lobby and lounge area really nice, high end and classy. The people were all very helpful and easy to talk to and work with. Anything I needed they were happy to help, including a last second late checkout. And the room was very nice with all the things you would hope for. And I travel a lot in my day all over the country and world, but this bed was seriously the most comfortable one I have ever had in a hotel. Seriously! I never would have thought I'd say that about Hazard, Kentucky -- but it is true. Place was inexpensive as well making it the trifecta of nice, clean and not expensive. One note of caution of those who care to partake in a beverage here and there -- this area is DRY on Sunday. Found out when I went in the Applebee's literally next door and asked girl -- are you open, Sunday night -- when like 1 person in there. She said yes we are. So I sat down, to only find out they can not serve alcohol on Sunday -- so I then said good evening and left! IS this a true 5 star as I rated it? No. My sliding scale of being in the boonies and my expectations of fear, made me give them a 5 --- but it is a legit 4 star feel and quality, not only in Hazard but anywhere really! I am typically offered a couple of bottles of water and a snack. Not here. Otherwise; the woman working the desk seemed trained on the fundamentals. My last six (recent) Hampton/Hilton stays included a hot breakfast offering - but not this property. At 8:15-ish AM; coffee urns were all empty. No bananas. No muffins. No OJ. No waffles. Kids cereal and milk were available. Another guest mentioned bananas and muffins being available in the pantry, so I assumed if it was okay for them, it must be okay for me to retrieve a few errant items. Apparently, not okay. Staffer immediately closed the sliders to block the pantry then asked if there was something I needed. Um, yeah ... coffee, banana, Raisin Bran, OJ. He delivered everything but the OJ. The other guest that had encouraged my foray in to the pantry shrugged and apologized ... not his fault.

When we first drove up after dark we almost kept going, but after looking at a room we stayed. Clean, fresh room, friendly owner, very reasonable rates, and a great value. While it is a basic motel, I'm giving it a "5 circle" rating because the quality, cleanliness, and value were excellent. One small issue: we were never able to get the wifi password, as the front desk closed after we checked-in.

They take care of what they have. Rooms are dated but where always clean and orderly. Owner said no bs or he will ask you to leave. Has mini fridge and microwave. Did not get 5 stars because no breakfast, and it took a while for the shower to get Hot. Would definitely stay here again, and its cheap! P.S. there's a small picnic table out back beside the river that's nice to drink a beer or two at.

The room was so damp that the top sheet felt damp. i was never able to get the a/c on, the wall paper was falling off and the bathroom wall was starting to fall in and the bathtubs were rusting. With chunks missing out of the bottom. I will never stay here again and would advise no one ever stay here no matter the circumstances.

Won't be staying when we go down to Hazard again, we'll just stay somewhere better, like the Hampton right down the road. But if your just crashing for a night go ahead and stay here. We received an indoor room which connected to the small lobby. For the price of $93 I was disappointed in this motel. Very outdated and worn looking. The room was clean so that was good, but the drawers in the chest of drawers would not stay closed and would slide out and stay. The motel did not have very many used rooms, why would they put us in a room with drawers that don't close? The woman at the desk was polite but I kept having a hard time hearing her and missed exactly where our room was. Took forever to find it since there are two buildings. Then, neither of our keys worked and had to go down and get new ones. Spoke to some locals who stay at the hotel for work. I had the feeling that they do not pay anywhere close to $93 per night.

During our stay from the jump the room was dirty with signs of drug use there was baggies and a pop can with holes found a needle in medal rod where you hang your coat. How I found that was the window would not close so that bar was loose I got it to put behind the window so no one could come in there the window. I had to bring my own towels and toilet paper from my home. They said when they get some they would bring it they never so I got ours from the house around 10 pm the first night. Now when we checked out a few minutes ago they couldn't find my deposit lol and when they did finally find it they charged me $10 for a towel that was on the bars above the rod you hang your coat at. Granted it was destroyed but again it was there when I moved in along with food in the microwave and a mother's day balloon. Which I might add is still there I never did anything with those. I basically got called a lyer and for real there wifi is trash I played my ps4 off my cell phone data. I guess a fellow might need to make a donation of something there. Here's the cherry on top. I had to give them change for the $50 so they could give me $40 back. I wouldn't stay there if the owner called me and offered a month free. Get called a lyer was the breaking point. So this place shouldn't even be on anyone website for advertising. That's my opinion. Take care.

The story of Frontier Nursing Service and the founder, Mary Breckinridge. I enjoyed the tour and learning about her, how she found midwifery in America and all the wonderful things that she accomplished! She was truly a hero. The rooms were beautiful and well maintained. The staffs were warm and welcoming. The food was also delicious. I especially remember the spinach dip and the cobbler. Both were excellent and one of the best I've had. Overall, this place is a wonderful place to come and get away from it all. Come soak in the rich history, the beautiful view, fresh air and some awesome southern food.
