The Riverview - Decorated for a wedding reception

    The Riverview

Getting married here, one of the hidden, sacred treasures of the earth, is destiny. So glad, it was here. The venue is iconic in its restoration. Amy and JT know how to put on a good show. The guests were all so thankful, and the wedding ceremony outdoors and the fancy barn with a balcony viewing level. I think we had maybe 60. I couldn't tell you exactly. Susan Hyde played bass and sing for the outdoor wedding ceremony, Jane Hyde played harp during the reception following. They both played in the perfect spots, and the music's serenity and peacefulness matched the historic significance of the venue. Thank you Amy and JT Crawford! It was priceless. Couldn't have gone better! Looking forward to seeing how it goes for The Riverview! I'll bet it's gonna be big! Precautions & Recommendations * Go to Miracle Cafe in Reading, KS, check it out, then go to The Riverview right down Carlson/Road Z. * Set Up--the banquet tables and catering need to be set up at least a day prior if you want to be comfortable. Otherwise, you won't have much time for yourself while directing and coordinating guests and event staff during the big day. * A lot of work goes into it, be prepared. It's all worth it in the end--the goal. Sincerely, Elizabeth & Eric Hyde

Directions were spot-on, and check-in was a breeze. The Cottage is charming and comfortable, decorated by the careful hand of Patsy, the owner, an artist with great imagination and wonderfully eclectic taste. After settling in, I ventured across the grounds and was fortunate enough to run into Patsy, a barefoot gray-haired pixie wearing jeans and a tee-shirt, who greeted me with a warm smile and a firm hand-shake. She had just finished work for the day and offered me a tour, which I gladly accepted. I soon learned that this petite hippy-chick artist, who traveled the world visiting architectural treasures with her husband, is also a tough-as-nails farmer's daughter who can build anything and fix anything. He runs her soap making operation out of a restored barn that she and her father re-located from a nearby farm using jacking equipment, bridge girders, and a flatbed trailer. (Because, you know, who doesn't have a dad with bridge girders laying around?) Patsy also gave me a tour of the old schoolhouse which she and her husband beautifully restored including an addition with a grand fireplace and large seating area. The property is meticulously maintained and features a number of unique art pieces that fit perfectly with the rural setting. The pool offers a nice place to cool off on warm summer days. I visited in late August after a mild summer with good rain that left the property lush and green. It is easy to see why Summit Hill is the picture-perfect wedding venue. The bridesmaids room is above the shop, accessed by a vintage cast iron spiral staircase that leads to a large dressing room with a picture window where the ladies can look out and see the guests arriving. Spectacular. If you are searching for the perfect place for a wedding, a party, or just a brief get-away (like I was), do yourself a favor and visit Summit Hill Gardens.

Backing up into the off street driveway to unload through a fenced in back yard we noticed several places set up to gather and enjoy the outdoors including a covered porch. It was also decorated with many nick naks giving it a personal touch. Walking into the kitchen, we found it to be delightful. A lot of space with ample cabinets and drawers chock full of a chefs dream of every tool and amenity (including a very well stocked spice rack) one needs to cook their family a wonderful Thanks giving dinner. The cabinets were well stocked with snacks and all of the breakfast essentials. The downstairs includes 3 entrance ways, (front, back and side). The swing on the front porch is great to relax in. A foyer, living room, formal dining room seating 6, a complete laundry room with a restroom shower, washer/dryer. Upstairs has 3 bedrooms with very comfortable beds, a complete washroom featuring a spacious soaking tub. There is an abundance of lighting fixtures throughout the house for those of us who are not fans of dimly lit areas. There are hundreds of little every day nick naks and decor items that make a house feel like a home sprinkled throughout the house. You will want for absolutely nothing. Everything has been thought of and provided for you right down to the smallest of things like an array of bubble bath items for you to enjoy! Forgot to pack something? Don't worry about it. Chances are Brickside Beds has provided it for you. If I didn't know better I would have thought that Martha Stewart herself planned and decorated this house! On a scale of 1 to 5 stars this experience was definitely a 10!
