If you're coming here solely for the "traditional" museum experience walls of endless oil paintings and quiet, rectangular halls you might be in for a surprise. The Guggenheim is less of a building and more of a giant, architectural sculpture that happens to hold art. The continuous spiral ramp is iconic for a reason. There is something incredibly satisfying about taking the elevator to the top and winding your way down the "Great Rotunda" instead of trekking through a maze of rooms. It's airy, bright, and feels like you're inside a futuristic seashell. It gets tight on the ramps. If you're a photographer, bring your patience getting a shot without ten other people in it is the ultimate New York challenge. While the ramp is walkable, it is at a slight incline the whole way. Use the elevators if your knees aren't feeling it. Even if you aren't a "modern art person," you go for the building itself. It's a bucket list NYC staple that manages to feel experimental even decades after it was built.

Surprised at the low rating. I really enjoyed my time here. It is a smaller museum and not intimidating at all. The spiral walk up gives you a unique way of experiencing the art work. Along the way there are rooms with various artwork including well known artists like Picasso, Van Gogh, Degas, and Renoir. Some contemporary artists that I really enjoyed as well. They feature different artists so even when you go back, there is something new to discover. Bathrooms are available each floor, small cafe and a couple of gift shops complete the experience. You can also check in your coat, packages and umbrellas at the check in area.

One of Frank Lloyd Wright's most iconic buildings.... The space is amazing. Inside is a winding spiral with exhibit halls of artwork. There are some from Renoir, Monet and Van Gogh. A small cafeteria is halfway up the building. The bathrooms are found on each floor - they are pretty small and I could barely squeeze my knees in, there were no ADA codes back then. Entrance fees: you can buy tickets online or right at the entrance. Adults are $30 and it goes down from there. Kids are free. I believe there are some free days/times.

My friend and I wanted to check out a museum during a free afternoon in nyc. I never went to the Guggenheim museum and we decided to check that out. It was well worth a visit once and the main exhibit they had was really interesting. We started at the bottom and then went up the spiral. All along the walls, there were pieces from the exhibition, along with permanent pieces along the way. They were really interesting and thought provoking. It took us a few hours, only cause I'm relatively quick. For anyone with an interest in art, this is definitely worth checking out once.

I hadn't been to the Guggenheim in ages - maybe 15 years?! - but I visited last weekend. The Guggenheim is perhaps as famous for its architecture as for its collection/exhibitions. It was designed by Frank Lloyd Wright in the latter part of his career - it was finished the year he died. The museum is a six-story bowl-shaped main gallery with a ramp that spirals around the bowl (and there are smaller galleries off some of the levels - some for temporary exhibitions and some for the museum's permanent collection). Well over fifty years later, the design is still unique, and the museum is worth a visit for the design alone. The museum isn't among the largest in the city (compared to the Met or the MoMA, but that might not be a bad thing, depending on the amount of time you have or your attention span for art museums). The majority of the museum is taken up by its temporary exhibit, with some gallery space reserved for their pretty incredible permanent collection. So if you're not interested in the the permanent exhibit or if they're between exhibits, I wouldn't recommend a visit. But if the exhibit is interesting, it's a pretty incredible space to see art. The Guggenheim can only display less a tiny percentage of its collection at a time, which is a shame, because it collection of Impressionist, Post-Impressionist, early Modern, and contemporary art is pretty incredible. Solomon Guggenheim - the museum's namesake - collected some of the art that became the museum's permanent collection, but the collection has grown over the years to encompass the works of some truly great artists. Some of the artists in the collection include: Marc Chagall, Kandisky, Amedeo Modigliani, Picasso, Oskar Kokoschka, Marcel Duchamp, Vincent Van Gogh, and more and more and more. Because some much of the museum's wall space is taken up by temporary exhibits, just make sure you're interested in what is on display before you go! But its architecture and permanent collection make the museum worth a visit for sure.

The building is very modern and inside you feel that especially since its setup like an ikea kinda where you can start at top and make your way down the infamous spiral flooring so as you walk your way down as you see Modern and contemporary mainly installation pieces that honestly are not my thing I don't understand or get it and was at times confused and sometimes freaked out lol But it's ok it's just not my kind of art but I can still appreciate the building and the idea behind it all

I came on a Saturday morning. It was pretty packed however there is enough space to walk around. I went through all the exhibits in 30 minutes. I thought about staying for lunch but it was expensive so decided to leave the museum to try food somewhere else. Overall, a good museum to view around and move around because you are going up and down in the spiral ramp.

Very nice museum. Often has different themes and exhibits. The spiral architecture of the museum itself is a nice touch, as it allows you to view the exhibits and floors smoothly.

The Guggenheim has to be one of my favorite museums in the world. I'm a big fan of contemporary art and photography, and they have put on some wonderful exhibits there. The building itself is impressive with its spiral walkways. Very modern. Also has a beautiful skylight mandala. I've seen Mapplethore, Haring, Basquiat, etc, etc here and I really like the minimalism of the Guggenheim's exhibits. They're also not afraid to include more sexually explicit pieces, which I think is refreshing. Why hide them away when they could be discussed like anything else?

Had the chance to visit the Guggenheim Museum, and it definitely lived up to the hype. What stood out right away was the architecture of the building itself--walking through the spiral design made the experience feel more immersive and fluid compared to traditional museum layouts. Inside, there was a great mix of modern and contemporary art, and I found myself enjoying pieces I wouldn't normally go out of my way to see. It's one of those places where you can appreciate both the art and the space it's held in. Overall, I really enjoyed this museum--it's clean, curated well, and a great way to spend a couple of hours if you're in NYC and want to take in something inspiring. Would definitely recommend if you appreciate art, design, or just want a break from the usual city pace.

This is a great museum if you go during an exhibit that interests you. At those times, it will be a 5 star experience! Given the very small permanent collection area--they show almost exclusively the current, rotating exhibit--what you think of their offerings will depend on what is on view at that given time. The building itself is really neat in terms of architecture. It has a seashell-like design that is unique and a draw in itself. Get a sense of the current exhibit from their website, then check it out if you are interested. The current Orphism exhibit from the time of this review is great and recommended!

    Ryna D.

One of my absolute favorite museums in NYC! And I'll be honest, I love the architecture more than the art sometimes. Though every now and then, they manage to utilize that rotunda and atrium masterfully and it is unforgettable.

We were lucky to do the tour. It was a very engaging experience and would highly recommend it. Interesting the Museam changes every quarter and only a few wings stay the same. I'm excited to see who is next. Lots of multimedia to keep me interested. The cafe had great coffee. Bonus my hat matches the Frank Lloyd Wright building

I happened to go on a very busy day, so it was crowded, but nothing that distracted from my actual experience. My favorite sections are the Egyptian and Greek and Roman wings of the museum. I saw many famous piece there that I previously saw in textbooks. As far as some of the cafés there offer really basic American fair, but with a fresh twist. This museum is enormous and really needs a dedicated 5 to 6 hours to truly enjoy it so don't pack in too many other museum visits on the same day. I made that mistake.

But what I did find super interesting was the exhibit on production and industrial machines and the people who work on them. I had no idea there were 13 foot tall tires or that one regular man gets inside of them (with the inner rim of the tire coming to his chest) to prepare them for distribution. I thought it was some sort of weird art for a minute, before realizing it was a genuine photograph. I loved seeing all the electronics, large hydraulic systems, weaving apparatuses, and factory settings. It really makes you think about all that goes into making our daily lives livable, that we take for granted. It also had me feeling a true sense of appreciation for the people who do these niche jobs, many of which are a dying craft. This is always a great value. I'm not sure why there are some reviews knocking it. Maybe with today's overstimulation and short attention spans, the vibe is just too chill for them. *shrug*

Excerpt from website: Made in America brings together more than 70 large-format photographs captured by Christopher Payne over a decade-long photographic journey to learn more about the craft of both industrial and artisanal making in the United States. His images celebrate the combination of human skill and mechanical precision that transform raw materials into objects as diverse as pencils, semiconductors, pianos, and rockets.

Skyscape is a really engaging and a well designed experience. Theres a lot to see and do, with interactive spy style missions that kept both me and my son entertained the entire time! My son was completely locked in the whole time and I was right there pretending I definitely understood the instructions on the first try. It's mostly a hands on experience, you're not just walking through exhibits, you're actually participating, solving challenges and learning as you go. Even better, it didn't feel crowded, which made it comfortable to move through at our own pace. We were able to go back and redo some of the exhibits we enjoyed, which made the experience even more fun the second (and third) time around. Overall, a great mix of entertainment and learning, especially for kids but enjoyable for adults too. 10/10. My son loved every second. I loved pretending I knew what was going on.

On weeknights, it's cheaper than the weekends, which made this experience more worth it at $27pp. Plus, you also save a couple dollars by purchasing your tickets beforehand online. We participated in the Spygames portion, which was worth doing. Once we got a wristband and setup an account, we got to start the games. They also offer free lockers (you'll want to remove any purses, bags, jackets, etc) as you'll be moving a lot. There's 10 rooms of a variety of games although some are similar or duplicates. You'll be very active jumping, climbing, and running around. The hour went by pretty quick but we were both sweating and exhausted by the end of it, so an hour is really all you need.
