This is my third time visiting Michael J Fox Theatre and I love it!…read more The seats are more comfortable and more roomy than the theatres downtown Vancouver. I've watched 2 musicals and 1 magic show here and the seats were all close enough. I really enjoy picking seats online before the show. Our favourite spots are Upper Centre, Row H. Its first row so nobody will block my view! Not to mention, free parking! This theater is part of Burnaby South high school but during the shows, the set up is quite nice in the foyer. They usually have props set up for pictures too!

Most people won't think highly of a theatre at a publically run school. Surprisingly, Michael J…read more Fox theatre is one of the better theatres in the Lower Mainland. It was originally built as a part of Burnaby South Secondary School in 1993, and it was given the name Michael J. Fox theatre in 1995. I love the overall design. It feel and looks like a classic, yet modern theatre. There are 613 theatre seats and you can sit anywhere and you'll get very good view of the stage. The seats are very supportive and comfortable. Firm with good lumbar support. Unlike seats at many theatres that are very soft, seats at this theatre won't put you to sleep. After attending over a dozen assemblies and performances and I didn't experience body pain or discomfort. The stage is large enough to hold some large performances with many performers. The Nutcracker by Goh Ballet was excellent and the performers had a lot of room to do their moves. On rare occasions, Michael J. Fox theatre is used for viewing films. The drop down screen is good, but not great. This isn't a movie theatre for sure. What surprised me the most? Quality. I was at this theatre during opening day in 1993 for school. To this day, the seats look and feel almost like new and they don't squeak. Apparently, this theatre was designed to survive a 8.0 richter earthquake too. Honestly, this is the best theatre in Burnaby for the performing arts.

We purchased tickets ahead of time online to select the perfect seats and check in was a breeze. After entering our vehicle license plate on the kiosk inside the lobby we were told we'd be receiving four hours of complimentary parking instead of the regular 3 because our movie "Odyssey" runs for almost three hours. Bonus! After walking down the well lit corridor thanks to the floor to ceiling windows, you arrive at the bar/dining area. This 75 seat and table bar /dining area. It is nice to have a meeting spot prior to or after seeing a film. Locating your theatre is simple as walking down the next hall. All five auditoriums are in a row. I believe this is the second adult only Cineplex VIP exclusive theatre venue in Canada. ( The other being Park Royal.) RealD 3D is featured and adds extra depth and realism to compatible films. Their full recliner is the feature that my husband was most thankful for. The headrest has a separate adjustment to obtain the perfect movie watching position. In seat, food and drink is the sole way to purchased food here. Popcorn and sodas included! My only minor disappointment involved the popcorn toppings. I usually drench mine in the canola-flavored oil because I'm lactose intolerant--and, honestly, I just prefer the taste. Only butter topping is available at this location so I had to defer and pop a Lactaid pill. It was pretty tasty! The super clean, modern bathrooms were an unexpected bonus and should get recognition as well! It was a solid five star experience.

Tucked away in a corner of Queen's Park in New Westminster, I had no clue this theatre even existed until a friend promoted the play (and the theatre). There is the main parking area close by, or if you know your way around Queen's Park, you can park in the lanes right next to the theatre. There are just over 100 seats, and as soon as you walk in you will feel the building infused with character and history. (If you had any doubt, the numerous pictures on the wall will give you a hint about the rich history). There is a small lobby area, concession stand, and surprisingly roomy washrooms (a plus!) As I understand it, the concession stand and other roles during play productions are all staffed by volunteers who are members of Vagabond Players. I had never known this theatre existed, but now I will keep an active eye out for future productions.

It is charming and full of history, if only the walls could talk. It reminded me of pantomime plays performed in small town theater in Enid Blyton's books. Being a small place, you can still see the performers clearly even if you are sitting at the back. I hope this place will remain open and be home to performances in the new west area.
