Groundling Theater, Second City, etc. However, the show we saw at The Improv Centre was probably the best I've seen! I laughed so much and it was a really great night. If you're looking for a fun activity to do with friends, I would definitely recommend checking out the Improv Centre! They get pretty busy on weekends, so its better to book it earlier. We were pretty impulsive with this one so we got the first available show they had. You can welcome to go 1.5hrs before the show and enjoy with your friends at their bar lounge at a discounted happy hour rate. Gives you enough time to drink a few beers and loosen up before the show. They also had popcorn as a light snack. The show started on time, they had 2 improv groups for the night. The first group were called the Relatable Material and they were hilarious!! I thoroughly enjoyed their performance and was very impressed by their skills. There were some dull moments but nothing too bad. The second group were called the Jalapeno Business, they were pretty good too but it felt like they were new to the game. Appreciated their talent regardless! We did not realize how 2hrs went by :) It is located in Granville Island so there are a lot of food options to explore after the show! read more

We booked a private improv workshop for 1.5 hours and had a blast! Our host, Allen was phenomenal, we loved everything about him. Our girlfriend is getting married in 3 days and wanted a simple get together instead of a full blown bachelorette party, so we got her this workshop and she loved it as much as we all did. Allen was welcoming and made us feel as though we'd known him for a century or two! Ha! The activities he planned for us were inclusive and just the type of goofiness we love. He let us be ourselves and got us to have so much fun! As working professionals, we all have hectic jobs and are expected to maintain boundaries and follow proper rules and etiquette at work; so this environment was exactly what we needed to let loose and truly be ourselves and enjoy being in the moment. Our creative minds took us to exploring wreck beach, sipping Margaritas in Mexico, surfing in Fiji, going on a date with Gerald Butler, finding a dildo in a suitcase with half a million dollars, and so much more! You can only imagine the roaring laughter and fun we had! Oh, I LOVED it! If you love to laugh and appreciate humour, I highly recommend this place. If you're looking for an activity, try booking a private workshop. All the staff we met today were fantastic! Their shows are also epic, and I've loved the ones I've watched so much! The wife and I were looking for something to do on a Sunday night in Vancouver. Google searched for comedy clubs and this location came up. So glad that it did! The night we were there they were doing an improv team competition, and it was hilarious! Two teams took suggestions from the crowd, and turned them into laugh out loud moments that kept us going for a couple hours. The seating is comfortable, especially if you sit in the first few rows. There are tables in the very front that you can sit at, followed by a row of padded bench seats in the middle that have a bar in front of them to set your drinks on. We sat in that middle row section and it was perfect. Did I mention bar? They have a full bar you can get drinks from before the show and during any intermissions. They also sell popcorn. They do different styles of shows throughout the week, so check their website for what is being offered when you plan on going. Also, it is very affordable to attend. Also, check online for any possible age restrictions. This is a definite spot to check out if you are looking for some laughs. read more

One of my favorite things to do in any city is to see a comedy show because, especially with local comedians, you can really understand the culture of the local community - it's what people relate and laugh to. I decided to watch the Happy Hectic Holiday show here and it was great. I booked it a week beforehand and most of the seats seem to have already been booked, I took the last 2 seats that were front and center. However, when I looked at the website the day of the performance, they released a bunch more seats that were cheaper than the ones that I bought. Maybe keep a look out for these last minute seats. Happy Hectic Holidays was formatted in a way that there was an underlying story line but every scene could be different based off of what the actors felt like doing at the time. Honestly I was quite impressed that the actors were able to keep their character in tact the whole time although I didn't feel like the story resonated with me. What made me really laugh was when they allowed the actors to be more free form and choose whatever character and story they wanted. There were two actors, I'm not quite sure their names, that were particularly amazing in capturing the audience's hearts and attention. Their comedic timing and commitment to the character was absolutely amazing. This was my first improv show I ever watched and I was a bit skeptical about it at first, but I think if done right it could be very very funny. Overall, highly recommend watching a show here and especially in the intimate setting that it was hosted in, it's the perfect addition to your Vancouver trip. read more

I've seen a lot of improv shows and this was one of the best! The improvisers are funny and experienced and the theater had a great stage view from every seat. The bar tenders and staff were allvery friendly and patient to answer all of our questions. The theatre was pretty clean and the seats were comfortable as well. We spontaneously bought tickets a few hours before the 7:30 TheatreSports show on a Friday night. We were going to be in the neighborhood anyways for dinner, and instead of going home and throwing Netflix on, we wanted something a bit more engaging & out of routine for an after-dinner activity. It was a great decision! Funny, interactive, and entertaining, the team at The Improv Center made the hour and a half show fly by. Because it is improv, you really don't know what you're going to get, which is part of the charm. Their Wednesday Date Night show is also good! I might have to try one of their improv classes... The patio is amazing. Get a drink, and enjoy one of the best secret patios in Vancouver. If you get there early enough, it's basically a private view with fairy lights overlooking the marina. First time back in several years. We logged in to a zoom improv show during the pandemic but prior to that it's been absolute ages. I used to come here every weekend for their rookie night show on Sunday evenings and loved it. Our recent show was on a Thursday evening and there was a good sized crowd. The ticket agent was friendly and we were let into the theatre shortly before the show started. I didn't recognize any of the improvisers from previous years but am happy to report that the show was great. Interesting format with new improv games introduced and entertaining. Lots of variety. I would not hesitate to return again. It's a bit far from home these days but certainly worth the trip. read more

Easily one of my favourite activities in Vancouver! Located conveniently in Granville Island, the Improv Centre is home to the Vancouver TheatreSports League. The shows are quite affordable, well organized, and the performers are all very talented. Guaranteed laughs and fun. They serve a variety of drinks (alcoholic and non-alcoholic) and have a nice lounge area near the bar to hangout before the show. Get there early if you want tickets (or order online). If you're looking to stay out of the line of fire (i.e. not have the performers call on you/ask you questions during the show), sit in the back theatre seating. If you sit in the front part (lounge tables), you might get called into the action. Highly recommended! read more

First time going to the Improv show. I have to say it exceeded my expectations and Yes I was entertained. So I came here thinking this was a stand up comedy show. Well yes and no but totally different because its made up on the spot. Now that is what I talk about challenging and different each time. Also there are some acting involved. What impressed me was even though the topic was made up on the spot the actors and actress was still able to work with props that they have at the back. So the show I came for is called TheatreSports. There were two teams and they ask the audience for topics. In my head I was like how are they going to play that. They were definitely very professional. They compete against each other and ask the audience to rate them on a scale of 5. No profane languages here. So this can also be a family entertainment. Kids can watch this stuff and laugh to it too. This is a full 5 stars entertainment. Seats are comfy. Audiences, Host, Actors and Actress and Staff on site were all very awesome. There is a small bars just around the corner. Parking can be found inside Granville Island. Some free parking and some paid depending where you park. Great location! I definitely had a great time. I absolutely love this place! I've been to quite a few of their shows, and I've never left feeling like I was disappointed. The actors are all very much into the performance and it shows with how fluid most of the improv is done. They occasionally bring guests up to participate in the improv portion of the show, but it's mostly from asking the crowd. Recently went to see "Murder on the Improv Express" during their opening night and it was a lot of fun. They improv on what the casts roles are, but they follow a general script as they have a story to tell. The show was about 1.5 hours and seemed well paced in laughter and storytelling. Some of the stand out casts members at VTSL (imo) are: Allen, Graeme, Lauren, and Pearce. Pretty much every cast member is funny, but these four usually stand out to me. I think VTSL does an excellent job in representing improv comedy in Vancouver and it shows with the sold out shows whenever I attend. read more

The improv center claims diversity as one of their core values, but in reality, they are only hypocrites. They put on a racist show and downplayed my comments about them. Very disappointing, but also not surprising: many google reviews from many years ago suggest the same thing. I also learned that the improv center used to be called theatresports before changing their name to the improv center to distance themselves from a racism controversy in 2020. That is sad but it makes sense -- the incident that I experienced was only possible because the improv center/theatresports is fundamentally broken. read more

Amazing! This is my first improv show and I had THE best time! We didn't have anything planned today so I went online and came across The Improv Center and bought 2 tickets for the 9:30 show which also came with 2 $6.00 drink vouchers for $59. Totally worth it and the show last for 1 1/2 hours. Be sure to get there about 30 minutes early so you can enjoy a cocktail on the deck! At about 9:20 they opened the doors to the theatre and slowly everyone started to trickle in. The show started promptly at 9:30. The host was awesome! She keeps the players and audience involved. She's super high energy and full of confidence. The players are HILARIOUS! They had the entire audience cracking up the entire time!!! If you're on the fence about seeing a show do yourself a favor and buy multiple tickets because you'll want to come back! read more

We've been to quite a few comedy shows in Los Angeles / Seattle and felt that the one we watched here made it to our top 3 favorite improv shows of all time. Fun! Improv! at a new location within Granville Island-A brand new 190-theatre within a space. We came here Saturday night for their TheatreSports improv show. The show starts at 10pm, tickets are $19. The place is licensed, and they have a bar serving beers and mixed drinks. This place is so new that it still smells like paint. There are 2 teams of 3 people, in which they go through a series of rounds and in the end, the one with the most points wins. They base their 'skits' by accepting ideas and suggestions, and then they do some on the spot thinking, and improvisation begins. Some were hilarious, some were just ok. Overall, it was great laughs. It's amazing what these actors can think up on the spot. There's also a later show, for an extra $5, which is then a 2 on 2 improv team, and apparently, that one has no rules, so it can get even more interesting? For $19, I thought it was a little pricey for what I got. Shows on the weekdays and tickets on Thursdays are half price. Would definitely go back then! read more

This one's easy. 5-stars all the way. From beginning to end, you can tell they're professionals. The way they nicely warm up the crowd, and even politely hint at the crowd that there are young ones in the audience (so that they'll watch their language). This Thursday improv program gives you a mix of routines with different rules (for both the performers and the audience.) The time just zoomed by and before you know it, time's up. Memorable performances from Allen Morrison who was very versatile. He smoothly transformed himself from role to role throughout the evening. Great voice with much charisma. Whether you're a local, or visiting from out of town, this is a must. FYI, improv is now catching the attention of corporate training. And you know why. read more

This is a review just for their customer service department. My boyfriend and I biked over with tickets for their improv show last Wednesday. Unfortunately, we forgot to bring our bike locks and couldn't find a secure location to store our bikes at the theater. The house manager and the box office employee were both very helpful, and they suggested I contact Holly from their customer service department to see if I could do an exchange. I called Holly last Thursday, left a detailed message and didn't hear back from her. I tried calling again on Friday, no one answered. I emailed Monday morning with the same details, no response. I understand if an exchange isn't possible, but I would have appreciated a call back or email to let me know. So much for customer service. read more

I've been to a few shows and was never impressed by the caliber of talent and artistic direction. I find the humour really unoriginal and obvious. They need more diversity in their cast to get a better dynamic of different voices. Little Mountain Gallery is a better source of local comedy talent. read more
