If you're looking for a fun activity to do with friends, I would definitely recommend checking out the Improv Centre! They get pretty busy on weekends, so its better to book it earlier. We were pretty impulsive with this one so we got the first available show they had. You can welcome to go 1.5hrs before the show and enjoy with your friends at their bar lounge at a discounted happy hour rate. Gives you enough time to drink a few beers and loosen up before the show. They also had popcorn as a light snack. The show started on time, they had 2 improv groups for the night. The first group were called the Relatable Material and they were hilarious!! I thoroughly enjoyed their performance and was very impressed by their skills. There were some dull moments but nothing too bad. The second group were called the Jalapeno Business, they were pretty good too but it felt like they were new to the game. Appreciated their talent regardless! We did not realize how 2hrs went by :) It is located in Granville Island so there are a lot of food options to explore after the show!

We booked a private improv workshop for 1.5 hours and had a blast! Our host, Allen was phenomenal, we loved everything about him. Our girlfriend is getting married in 3 days and wanted a simple get together instead of a full blown bachelorette party, so we got her this workshop and she loved it as much as we all did. Allen was welcoming and made us feel as though we'd known him for a century or two! Ha! The activities he planned for us were inclusive and just the type of goofiness we love. He let us be ourselves and got us to have so much fun! As working professionals, we all have hectic jobs and are expected to maintain boundaries and follow proper rules and etiquette at work; so this environment was exactly what we needed to let loose and truly be ourselves and enjoy being in the moment. Our creative minds took us to exploring wreck beach, sipping Margaritas in Mexico, surfing in Fiji, going on a date with Gerald Butler, finding a dildo in a suitcase with half a million dollars, and so much more! You can only imagine the roaring laughter and fun we had! Oh, I LOVED it! If you love to laugh and appreciate humour, I highly recommend this place. If you're looking for an activity, try booking a private workshop. All the staff we met today were fantastic! Their shows are also epic, and I've loved the ones I've watched so much! Their theatre is small and pretty cozy. I heard it's one of the best in North America! THANK YOU Allen (and Alex); you guys are awesome and we'll see you again!

Went with my husband during their "date night". They had their funny moments, but they also had their dull moments. We've never seen an improv show before so we didn't really know what to expect. They did have a bar and snacks. There was a patio you can sit and relax before the show starts.

The wife and I were looking for something to do on a Sunday night in Vancouver. Google searched for comedy clubs and this location came up. So glad that it did! The night we were there they were doing an improv team competition, and it was hilarious! Two teams took suggestions from the crowd, and turned them into laugh out loud moments that kept us going for a couple hours. The seating is comfortable, especially if you sit in the first few rows. There are tables in the very front that you can sit at, followed by a row of padded bench seats in the middle that have a bar in front of them to set your drinks on. We sat in that middle row section and it was perfect. Did I mention bar? They have a full bar you can get drinks from before the show and during any intermissions. They also sell popcorn. They do different styles of shows throughout the week, so check their website for what is being offered when you plan on going. Also, it is very affordable to attend. Also, check online for any possible age restrictions. This is a definite spot to check out if you are looking for some laughs.

You can peek the lights overlooking the patio seating in this picture.

They are made on-site as far as I know. - Full bar with domestic and import beers, spirits including scotches and 6 beers on tap. Cons - A little bit stuffy in some way with metal plaques on the walls from old events, this place really has 125 years of history - A private member's club, so you won't be able to just walk into the venue to enjoy the view - There is one pulldown screen on stage and the projector was decent but could be a bit better - Audio was also not as loud as it needed to be and it was already on max - They had wired mics, no wireless Damage -A few thousand dollars. Protip - No free parking that I know of, only hourly and daily rates.

The bar manager, JJ, gave us everything we needed during setup the day of, and provided all logistical support with our dj, florist, and guests with a smile. Bar staff were full of laughs, good humour, and friendly. The venue is wildly charming, the main hall has a wrap around licensed deck that looks over Coal Harbour providing stunning views day and night. Our guests from the prairie provinces were in awe all night. Emelle's catering, exclusive caterer, provided food and service for the wedding and we couldn't have been happier. Food was 5 star, and service was friendly, efficient, and unobtrusive. Venue and alcohol service costs are very affordable, especially in comparison to other local venues. Can't wait to have another event there!

I really like this. Came here for the annual 12X12 exhibit. This is a photgraphy competition, friendly of course, but there are catches., with a new catch for this year's 2012 competition. http://www.yelp.ca/biz_photos/salt-building-vancouver?select=L_6w9BcDkIY4mFJkwd59SQ#Tauo1LC-G8fbqfxbek4lVA Each competitor must: 1. Take 1 photograph of a theme announced once, every hour on the hour 2. Intepret the announced theme in a single shot 3. 12 shots in total meaning you're on the hunt to interpret a theme each hour for 12 hours. 4. The photograph is on film. Not digital. 5. This year's catch is.... black and white film only. I've come out to this exhibit every year since it's inception. They had it at another venue in previous years, but it was horribly crowded and stuffy. This was a welcomed change, much welcomed. Maybe next year I'll do it. I'll have to dust off one of my film cameras.

Seeing, and more importantly,…read morebeing able to enjoy spaces like this are rare, especially in cities like ours where there seems to be an overwhelming need to make everything shiny and new. (yes there are foundations in place to protect our heritage buildings, but I'm making sweeping generalizations here) When the Salt Building was first being revitalized during the pre-Olympic building-frenzy era, there was talk of the space being used as a pub or high-end restaurant or some other variation on that theme. Though it may have been entirely acceptable -- and maybe even great -- if that were the case today (and who knows, it may very well be the case in the future), but it almost seems as though that would be a bastardization of this minimal bare-bones structure. The building is gorgeous. Bookended with mammoth-sized windows, allowing plenty of light to pour in throughout the almost 14,000sq foot space, exposing the elaborate timber trusses and metal hardware, and shining of the polished concrete floor, there is not one thing I'd change here. It would be a shame to cover any of it up. A perfect event location, an ideal gathering space, an overwhelmingly stunning surprise in an area that is known for making everything "pretty," the Salt Building is, at this moment, a perfect homage to its historic past.

The foyer to the building isn't very telling or chic, but there is a grand piano stationed when you get off of the elevator, if you're into that kind of thing. The jem of the Jewel is the patio, in my humble opinion anyway, especially with the downtown view it bestows on it's guests. Or, if you're into elegance that's just about retro, the room, as is, might be just your style. Bar staff are pleasant, their cash bar accepts credit cards and they have the usual suspects when it comes to beer and wine, just don't expect anything fancier than Granville Island or Sumac Ridge.
