My nephew who travel from Tucson loves his guitar center and I wanted to show off Albuquerques guitar center! Big mistake ! This place was hard to get customer service and staff work attire was not worn to show they are staff. The public restroom were dirty and no working soap dispensers and the hallway to the restroom had boxes on left side along the wall. At first I thought we are in the inventory room but we followed the sign for restrooms. My nephew was looking for a pedal but they were slim selection but the staff offered to order product but we declined. Looking at their products was looking very disorganized and sloppy in the display. Even the staff felt bad how the displayed looked and muttered the place was in bad shape. read more

I went there to sell a midi controller and the store was pretty busy at the time. When I finally got the chance to talk to a staff member he asked me if I could come back later because he "couldnt do this right now". Thats seems unprofessional but ok. So I came back like 45 minutes later and stood in line AGAIN just for some other staff member to tell me the guy who handles used items wasn't there even though I literally just saw him. At that point I felt another second spent in that store would push me over the edge, so I just left. If I could give zero stars I would. read more

Exceptionally poor customer service. I have purchased "new" gear here at full price that was in open-box/demo condition with missing components. Trade-in services are only offered when staff feels like it, with employees denying service due to store-specific policies that are vague and not communicated anywhere within official correspondence (e.g. the Guitar Center website). Guitar Center's own customer support line has confirmed the store's actions violate their policies. Despite past positive experiences with Guitar Center as a whole, the Albuquerque store stands out for its lackluster customer experience. This may explain why many brick-and-mortar music stores are closing as brands with excellent customer service move their operations online. Albuquerque has limited music gear options, but check Lesmen's, Music Go Round, and Candyman Strings & Things (in Santa Fe) before visiting this store. Went in first time to return an acoustic guitar from Sweetwater (apparently, GC is affiliated), the gentleman in the keyboards room was extremely helpful... filing the RA, receipts, shipping label, refund to PayPal. Second time w/another acoustic from Sweetwater; strings fretting out, bridge and set-up. Tab, if I recall, about $50 and change. Didn't like the action, asked to lower it. Did what he could,.. returned. Third acoustic - again from Sweetwater, also needed set-up; tab this time was almost $80 :^o The extra charge was for filing sharp edges off the frets - procedure I did not request. Was not notified of, asked about, or signed off on.. opened the case to find he had scratched up the neck from headstock to body. :^\ read more

Make sure you call to make sure they have the product you want in stock even if the website says they have it in stock. I drove across town to purchase a power supply their website says they have in stock, in store, in Albuquerque. Get there only to be told they don't stock that product. I show the salesperson the product on my phone and he magically finds it on the computer but not in stock at the store. I show him my phone again showing that the store should have stock. He then finds stock on his computer! He goes in the back for a second and comes out with a different model and says they don't have the one I asked for. I hope he looked for it but I somehow doubt it was a thorough job. Feels like really lazy and incompetent customer service. Dropped off my guitar at 1:15pm, left it with Stephen Gomez at the register. We came back 4 hours later and the repair person said he never received any classical guitar to put strings on. He asked that Stephen where is the guitar and he said I don't know maybe still behind the counter up front, and it was there! Very disappointed with this place, especially when you spend money on something and get lousy service!!! The gentleman that repairs guitars said he could have it ready in one hour, so we left to waste time and we live 120 miles from Albuquerque so it's not like we live close!!! Went in to buy my daughter a beginner guitar. Big shout out to Brent for helping us right away and the time he spent with us as we knew nothing about guitars. We went in wanting one thing and he very politely and thoroughly explained why we would NOT want that (even though it would cost more and would be better for the store's numbers (sales)). He spent time with my daughter and helped fit her for the perfect acoustic guitar for her needs. He had to turn us over to Shane to finish because he had a lesson to give. Shane was very helpful in gathering all the extras (tuner, picks, bag, music stand, etc.) and when what we wanted wasn't in stock, offered other options. The guitar she wants isn't in stock and they have some coming -- just not sure when. So, we have 45 days to exchange the one we got for the exact wood/finish she wants. In the meantime, though, she has a guitar to begin her lessons next week. read more

The worst customer service ever!!! I have dealt with this business three times. Twice I tried to purchase something. I tried asking for help and the most I got was a nod in a general direction. The second time I went in I was completely ignored for an employee who spent his time texting. This third time was the absolute WORST!!! I called to ask if they had a needle for a vinyl player, which is on their website...btw, and the person who answered didn't know what I was talking about and the finally told me they didn't have anything like that and proceeded to laugh at me!!! I could usually spend hours in a store like this but my first visit to this Guitar Center location was my last. My biggest pet peeve about this place is the employees. They are rude and will ignore you intentionally. During my visit, I was looking for a couple of small speakers and a compact mixing console for a small home studio I was building. Wanted to be able to ask some questions about the products before purchase. This never happened. The employee at the counter was too busy to answer a couple of questions and said he was with another customer. No assuring he would be with me soon or get another employee to help. I was ignored for the rest of my visit which was very frustrating when I was ready to purchase some products. I left empty-handed. So unfortunate Grandmas Music closed on the west side of town. They had the best folks who were always helpful and would go out of their way to help everyone. You are better off going elsewhere because I can guarantee you will find better customer service anywhere other than this Guitar Center location. Being in the audio business I have heard quite a few others with almost the same experience I had at this location. read more

I frequent this store pretty often. As you enter you will see guitars hanging everywhere and your ears will be filled with music. It is unlikely the radio will be playing, instead you will hear live vocals or mostly live music as other customers sample the guitars. Other than hearing several different songs simultaneously, you will likely enjoy going here as the staff is friendly, helpful and knowledgeable. And the prices are pretty decent too. read more

This place was great! I had a guitar that I haven't used it in 3 years or more! I also had broken the #1 string, So I went to guitar center I went to the repair shop and the person there offered me new strings & for the whole thing. I came back after exploring and he was done fixing it up, it was I also got some guitar picks around. Everyone was really nice and helpful with the things I needed, The center had a lot of guitars, ukuleles, drums and keyboard/pianos! This place Very great for buying and learning whatever you have. My husband and I went here to look at electric guitars, strings and a new tuner yesterday evening. We walked in and were ignored for the entire experience. There was one gentleman considering the purchase of a Gibson guitar and 3 of the staff were circling him like vultures. While the rest of the students waiting for lessons and other patrons were ignored. We had money to spend and we're hoping to do so with a local shop. I don't know if we didn't show an air of "money" or "intrigue" but we were thoroughly disappointed in the service we received. My husband was able to purchase his new strings and tuner, which we needed. However, we will be taking our major purchases to other local shops that demonstrate an interest in new clients. To be honest it felt like they were a little too big for their own britches. We hear Grumpy's is pretty solid and actually talks to their customers... Going to give them a shot. I am a regular customer and have bought many guitars including Gibson and PRS. I find lately the place is very disappointing. First, I called and asked about the Fender acoustisonic and the player series acoustisonic. I was told I would have to order it as they had none in stock. Guess what I went there the same day and they have 7 American acoustisonic guitars hanging on the wall. Then they have tell me to come in the next day for a VIP event and I can get a 15% coupon good for a purchase. I was going to buy a Lin6 Pod Go Wireless and order the case for it. after tax $700. I show up on my motorcycle after a ride and intend to get the coupon and come back the next day to make the purchase and maybe add the acoustisonic. but no, I am told I have to make the purchase immediately or the deal is void. So, on a motorcycle that's not going to happen. All together they through away a $2,400 purchase. So, Sweetwater will get another online purchase from me. My question is why is Guitar center hiring these idiots who don't seem to care if they sell gear or not. read more

I went to Guitar Center to research the inventory of saxophones. I am in the market for a tenor sax. I played this instrument for three years and i want to start up again. Even though G.C. focuses on guitars they have other instruments too. They have Drums of all kinds including congas. The section with ukeleles is fun. They also have sound equipment. The only sax in stock at the time was an alto sax. I can order a tenor sax from order website but they are more on the higher end for my 20-year old budget. Ill continue my search. It was a nice visit at their store. The sales person really helped me gain knowledge on the different tenor sax brands. read more

I ordered a pedal and power supply 7 months ago. The power supply showed up in 3-4 days. The pedal NEVER showed up. No explanation, no apology, just silence. I DO have a useless power supply now, though. I'd like to say this is a one-time GC issue, but the truth is that this store is a sad excuse for what a music store should be, and a ghost of what it used to be. Not enough knowledgable employees, items not in stock (and BTW, if I have to order it online, why would I order through you and not just have it delivered to my door by Amazon, anyway?) When GC eventually goes bankrupt, I will do a happy dance on their grave. If you don't stock items, don't know about the items you sell, and can't fulfill an order, you don't deserve to exist. If I could I would leave a negative score. I went to the Albuquerque store to order a Taylor 12 string acoustic electric guitar. I presented them with my debit card and they rang up $2600 and change. I asked for my receipt and was told I would get it once my guitar shipped. Ok. My guitar never shipped because it was a discontinued model and they didn't know. But then, I get a call from an apparently move young man named Evan, who told me they had a similar but different model in stock and would overnight ship it to me. Great!! NO, they charged me another$2600 plus change and THEN, they tell me it's used and had blemishes. WOW!!!? I too get a hold of Evan and nothing. Ignoring the upset and discarded customer. Now I'm out $6500 and they won't help me. I just went to the B OF A where my account is and they can't do anything because BOTH TRANSACTIONS ARE PENDING. They tell me the money is out of my account and I NEVER GOT ANY GUITAR. My next step is legal action since they care nothing about their customers. Thanks for nothing guitar center! UPDATE::: 2/17/23 They never call but respond here on this forum to say they are sorry. Really???? I'll bet you have over$6300 in your bank account that someone didn't take and gave your nothing!! I still am missing all that money and they will not Do A DAMN THING TO HELP ME. THEY SHOULD DELIVER PERSONALLY TO MY DOORSTEP TWO TAYLOR 12 STRINGS THAT THEY CHARGED ME FOR AND NEVER DELIVERED. Td;lr: One-on-one service great; overall staff experience sucked, and attempting to contact corporate sucks. The young man assisting us in the replacement strings area was great. However, the rest of the staff was standing around chatting, as the store was not crowded that day (Aug 8, 2018, 2 pm). So conversation was centered on different people's food preferences. Normally, I'd have no issue with that. However, one man thought it funny to comment on how Summer's Eve tastes. Regardless of who was listening, this is inappropriate commentary for a retail outlet. I was searching for a keyboard today and popped into Guitar Center right at 11:00 am. A couple of minutes into me looking around, one of the employees asked me if he could help me find anything but the entire time he was asking me he didn't even look me in the face, he stared at me and scanned my body like I was an animal at a zoo. I'm sure some of the employees there are cool but he wasn't. I'm a 34 year old Black man. I deserve to be treated well especially because I treat others well. I will never shop there again and they also had a very small selection of keyboards. I hopped over to a nearby music store and was treated super well, found what I was looking for and felt comfortable shopping there. I will definitely be shopping at Music Go Round for the rest of my musical instrument needs while I'm traveling for work in Albuquerque. First of all, the staff I talk to show no product knowledge. They are rude, show no interest in helping, and express visible annoyance when asked about a product. At first I though it was a fluke, but each time I visited (with money in hand) to give a chance I was met with similar results. I've never felt so uncomfortable trying to purchase anything.
