Located in the st Mathews area of Louisville guitar center is a massive store that sells as the store name suggest "guitars". My oldest was wanting a guitar of any sort for Christmas this last holiday season. My wife or me neither have a musical bone in our bodies and have never played an instrument. So we were kinda lost in the sauce on what to do here. We walked in and was greeted immediately. We explained our situation and got some advice on acoustic vs electric for forts time learners. After getting some great advice and help the worker showed us some recommended guitars that fell inside the budget range we gave him. We wanted to get her a nice guitar but didn't want to get the nicest just in case it was just a teenage faze and became a Giant paper weight. After looking at a few options we picked out a beatific looking acoustic guitar. The tremendous customer service continued after that as the worker gave us advice on getting her started with tuner apps, etc etc. mainly stuff that confused a music novice like me but it was appreciated either way. She loved her gift. We have slacked and drug our feet a bit as we haven't gotten her lessons yet. But we will soon. They actually offer lessons up there and have a huge studio on site for it. It seems like the pricing for the studio lessons is roughly about a $1 per minute. Overall cool experience that ended up being a cool and memorable Christmas present. read more

Great variety and nice friendly staff. Also talk about very patient staff, they are extremely patient working with the variety of customers coming in. I will say though I wish their patience for loiterers was much shorter. It's difficult to look for instruments when there's a group practically having band practice on several instruments at one time. Clogging up spaces, and holding onto product I would like to look at. Brought in a guitar I'd purchased at another guitar center. I have the three year warranty on it, so that's why I took it there. The employees were quick to point me in the right direction. I was helped immediately. Although the technician didn't know what was wrong with the guitar after testing it, he was patient to listen to me. It seemed he wasn't too familiar with the type of guitar but he promised to call the manufacturer and figure it out. He ruled out battery failure by testing the batteries. I'll update once I get the guitar back. But for now, I appreciate the streamlined service and willingness to help. read more

One of my best experiences with GC is Justin Slaughter. He is very knowledgable and curtious. Always willing to help and answer questions. He allowed me space to try some intruments out I was interested in without being over my shoulder the whole time. Which I totally appreciated. Let's start with the good. First time in a Guitar Center and what an awesome concept! Now the bad. Will also be my last time in a Guitar Center. Here's the situation. Friend of mine lives across the country from me. We met in Kentucky as a vacation for both of us. He is considering a purchase of electronic drums. We stopped by Guitar Center before we both left Kentucky to look at them together. Granted, we didn't plan on purchasing during that visit but still expected some courtesy. My friend tried a set on display but wanted to try a different set that appeared to not be working. He convinced me to try the first set, too. I am not musically talented but tried them to get a feel for what he was so excited about. We were laughing and enjoying ourselves at my lack of ability. Just as I finished my minute or 2 on the set, an employee walked into the drum alcove and went to the cash register area. Pretty obvious it was just to check on us. Asked him about the set that would not turn on. Thought maybe it was unplugged or something. He was like "oh that one. It's brains are broken. People come in here and act like these are toys. I mean the kids." He really meant me but I haven't been a kid in over 3 decades. I'm at the age where I understand I would be responsible for damage I made to a $3,000 piece of equipment. My friend then asked if the set was durable if they broke from demo usage. Employee was all crappy then like "I said it's the brains not the drum" to which my friend replied "you mean the processing module not a slang term like brain'". Employee was like "yeah, the brains". The drum set had more brains than he did and it was broken. We left without further acknowledgement of him. Set will be purchased through another vendor. No Guitar Center for me ever again. read more

Asked about selling a Mesa amp and cabinet. Was told they were definitely interested in it, they weren't picky about what they buy as long as it worked, and to bring it in. I bring it in, and I'm told they don't want it without then even looking at it. After I asked four times and told them I didn't want to pack it out of my house if they're not interested in the amp or the cabinet. I will never do business with a guitar center again. I hope they go bankrupt. read more

These people are clowns. Guy messed up the input jack on my guitar while I was there and then tried to sell me the repair. Go to literally any other store. Stay away from this one. UPDATE: after this review, the store did reach out and make this right. If you can deal with the store manager, Paul, he is a nice and super reasonable guy. They have a lot to look at. They allow you to look around and play instruments. They only ask if they can help. They have a lot of knowledge about most instruments and sound systems. Used and new. I felt completely comfortable. read more

There is alot of guitar centers out there and this has to be the worst one. Called to check on a order that hasn't shipped in five days and got no apology or anything he just said we haven't been staffed correctly. So I asked since it's a used guitar can you make sure it's actually back there and didn't get sold? He said no I was just back there. Are you f---ing kidding me? If I seen that in a movie I would laugh but when it's your money it's not that funny. This is why the online music company's are burying guitar center. read more

I've been doing business here, off and on, for years and have always been treated great. Yesterday I brought my guitar in because I had a buzz on a fret and couldn't fix it. The staff member I spoke with immediately figured out the neck needed adjustment. It took him less than 5 minutes to fix the problem and, when I asked him the cost, he said it was in the house. What better customer service can your ask for. I'll continue to do business here. read more

The store is fantastic. Service is OK. I'm a relatively new guitar player and I don't have great guitars. So I enjoy going in and looking at the gear and guitars but as a high school student, I don't have much of a budget to go in there and buy one as I please. At some point, I WILL get a nice one but for now, I like to look. My 3-star reason is that I feel like the atmosphere isn't very welcoming or friendly. I feel like the guys in there just see me as an inconvenience or annoyance. I was very polite to one guy when buying a pedal and he was still pretty dry and edgy. WOW show room is tight! Greeted quickly at the door, musician friendly atmosphere. It's a huge plus when they ask you to try everything in the store! As a percussionist, that's unusual. I visited every room acoustic guitar, drums, piano, bass & guitar, studio & recording, all of them. Someone playing and/or demonstrating gear in every room. All I'm going to say is, they've had my electric guitar for TWO MONTHS for a basic setup and re string. I never hear any updates, I have to call them and ask what's happening. Every time I call I hear "oh, the guitar tech isn't here today he'll be back in a couple days". Will I ever get my guitar back? read more

I walked into guitar center yesterday with $1,500 in my pocket. It was my day, my NGD. I spy this gibson Les Paul hanging on the wall. It's beautiful, just absolutely gorgeous. It has this curly maple top with a trans blue finish that looks like running water. I was awe struck. I reached up and touched it with my index finger to see if it would come away wet, only to have an employee yell at me from across the store, "DON'T TOUCH THE GUITARS!" I turned and walked out the door, and took my business with me. I hope this isn't normal. It was my first time visiting a "guitar center". read more

The store is great but they need another guitar tech to help. The only person they have is Andrew. I feel sorry for the guy because he has allot of guitars that need service. I requested my electric guitar receive a setup and new strings. It stayed in the shop for around a month without being setup. The days range from 1/24/18 to 2/21/18. I called to get the status on 2/19/18 and Andrew said, " Boy, I have so much work to do and I'm backed up." I was tried of the wait and picked my guitar up on 2/21/18. Then, I took it to Music Merry-Go-Around in Louisville. I'm sure Steve will contact me in 2 weeks to pick- it- up. I wanted to give Guitar Center a chance to setup my guitar and now I see how well they perform. I thought it would take at least 3 weeks for Andrew to setup my guitar and that was okay. Guitar Center needs to inform people that it might either take months or years before their guitar receive service because Andrew is booked up. read more

The workers are so kind to my four year old ASD daughter. Musical instruments is her "thing". We stop in to look at the expensive guitars and drums. They allow her to play with them. If I could rate this location a zero, I would. I just spent 45 minutes in this store to ask a question about a trade in on an amp and bass that I purchased here, that's not a problem, that's the typical wait time for a response at this store anyway. The problem was the guy standing around doing basically nothing, and 3 others just roaming about with no care or worry in the world. There was customer besides myself in the store, and then when I'm finally asked what do I need, I'm told, "we have no time to do an appraisal today,or anything else for that matter, to much stuff to put away"... I've bought and sold equipment here for years now and this is not the first time something if this sort has happened. The staff has always been lazy at best and rude to people at worst (not myself personally, but I've seen it numerous times). Sadly in the past this was the best place for equipment around here and you had to deal with it. Not anymore however, Mom's music, Maxwells House of Music and the Music Store in Clarksville are phenomenal and I will only do buisness with them from here out. The only reason I came here today, 30 miles out of my way, was because I'd bought, the near mint equipment, I was looking to trade in from this store. Now it's all going to Maxwell's. People do yourselves a favor and go someplace else, or shop with Sweetwater... I understand now why GC is on the verge if going out of buisness. I never rate anyone this bad, but my experiences here on average warrants this harsh critisism. read more

OK, I'm not a musician. I love music, who doesn't, but I have never been particularly skilled at any musical instrument. My brother, on the other hand, can just about pick up any instrument and sound out a tune. He's such a douche. I found myself traveling along Shelbyville Rd looking for places to hang posters for an upcoming concert and Guitar Center seemed to be a likely spot. Once inside, I could see this would be like a musician's Toys R Us. My kids happened to be tagging along though, and I immediately felt that this may be a parent's nightmare. Amazed by the sheer number of bongos, guitars, drums and synthesizers, my boys began to touch, strum, beat anything they could place their hands on. Visions of having to walk out with a broken $750 Stratocaster filled my head as I rushed them along. There happened to be some high school kids on spring break, testing a few models here and there, helping to occupy my kids for a short time, which allowed me enough time to hang a poster on the board near the restrooms. I did have an opportunity to price out a couple ukuleles, which seems to be a current personal obsession (ukuleles have got be simpler than guitars.) Someday, not today. It did get me to thinking though, that if one of these boys has any musical talent I may be stopping by again in the near future. Drums are out though. read more

I'd rather drive 4 hrs. one way to sweetwater than drive 15 min. to lou, store.if the website says in stock that means they can order it,not that they have it.many times have left with cash in hand ,because it would be easier for them if i would order it from home.or a true favorite stand in store with 3,000 to 10,000 cash in pocket and wait over an hour "for help" with 6 or 7 employees in store and only 2 customers only to leave after 5 times of being told someone will be right with you,this has happened numerous times.management"s attitude after being informed was basically so go some where else.e-mailed corporate and they seem to care less than management.I am and have been a gigging drummer for last 20 years plus and would suggest you go anywhere else. read more

Guitar center has everything you need for music and more. I've been here to check out their used deals on guitars, amps, and cables and sometimes it's worth it sometimes not it's a hit or miss really. As soon as you walk in you can tell your in a music heaven or music toys r us just like another fellow yelper mentioned. If you love music and instruments like my self then guitar center is the place to go. If you need an instrument and don't know where to begin then I suggest here to get you started. There's a recording studio as well when you walk in, it's to the right. I've never been in there but it's probably expensive. The whole place is full of instruments and accessories from microphones to cables to little gadgets to further enhance your existing equipment. There's a section for just about anything and it makes you feel like your diving in to each individual world when your looking at something specific. My favorite section is the electric guitars and amps at the back and the acoustic room, and there's plenty of amps here to try and find the tone you want. The employees there seem to be helpful for the most part and will get you set up quickly in trying anything you want. Now on to prices: prices here are high compared to other local music shops but for the quality the instrument is in it's worth it. I'd like to get myself a gretsch hollow body guitar with a whammy pedal within the 300 dollar range but I'll have to wait just a little more. I bought an acoustic guitar here for 140 dollars with a great sound and excellent condition. I sold it back to them after close to year of having it to move on to electric guitar and I was displeased with the buy back amount but it also applies to any instruments customers bring to sell. All in all I think guitar center is a great place to check out to give you an idea of prices and I suggest also to check out pawn shops for cheaper deals cause sometimes you'll find a guitar for 100 dollars less than what it is here. read more

Disappointing that one of the associates at this store doesn't care about customer service (Jeremy). I came to pick up equipment on Sunday afternoon and was told everything was in the boxes that I was there to pick up. After getting home, I realized not everything was in the boxes I received. Now I'm on my second visit to Guitar Center in two days. I arrived 20 minutes before they opened up and called to let them know I was out front to get the item that was missing from my pickup (cords). I was told to wait until 12. I just figured the store could go a little above and beyond and let me grab the cords a little early, nope, just have to wait till noon. Disappointing. read more

It was on back order will be delivered end October then mid November....no problem. Then I received an email that said they canceled my order. I normally don't like doing reviews but this is a special occasion. Spoke with Chad, a salesman, on the phone earlier tonight and I'll let him know that I was really wanting to come in and buy a certain guitar amp because of the good price but wasn't sure if I was going to make it by closing time. Well not a problem. Chad and the manager made sure that even though I got here right at 9 o'clock I was able to make my purchase and browse around for a minute without any pressure to hurry up and leave. Went into the store with my brother and his buddy. They were walking around looking at guitars and talking shop with a guitar guy. While they were doing that me being a drummer I went and grabbed a few things I needed. As I walked out of the drum area I was greeted by a very rude employee saying " you ready to check out?" With the rudest tone I've ever heard. He made it seem like I wasn't going to pay for the items I grabbed. There is never a drum tech in the drum department so anytime I've ever been in the store I've always had to grab my own items. Needless to say after this transaction I will NEVER go back into this asscrack of a so called music store. For any musician that comes to the Louisville area check out Mom's Music. They are a locally owned business. They know what they are talking about. Don't give this corporate so called music store your business. Upon walking in I passed a worker on his cell phone, obviously not on a work call, then I proceeded to walk towards the back of the store passing four more workers standing around a register simply talking. Although we made eye contact, no one was the least bit interested in my being there. So I continued on looking for the one item I needed. The percussion area and most of the back of the store was empty when it came to asking someone for help, so I left. This isn't the first time this has happened at this Guitar Center. Largest selection of guitars in Louisville and you aren't pestered to death by salespeople. I like that. I have taken $3,500+ guitars off the wall and played to my hearts content without a nervous employee asking if I was going to buy. Some people expect to have employees racing to help them, but I don't like that. When I want assistance, I ask, and the folks here are always friendly, available and knowledgable. TIP: If you see a stock item you want to buy, use your smart phone to see if it's on sale at Guitar Centers online store: they will honor the deal if you show it. read more
