I wanted to meet cool employees, have great conversations about music, and honestly, I wanted to buy something. I have a lot of money (well, not really) and I am genuinely in the market for... music stuff. Groth Music has guitars, but guitar is not its primary focus. Instead, Groth is the spot to go to when you want to find sheet music. I think there's still a lot of value in this despite e-commerce. A lot of times, the quality of sheet music isn't clear, especially for pop music. It's very useful to be able to look at the pages for yourself. I'm rating Groth 3 stars because no employee felt like greeting me. I was especially disappointed that the guy in the guitar section simply sat at his desk without even trying to engage me at all. He semi-grumpily said "let me know if you have any questions." I genuinely could've bought something, even a guitar, if he took the second to chat with me like many local music shop workers often do. Instead, I got Guitar Center-level service.

A small crack was repaired, bridge and tailpiece replaced, new strings, some rough and chipped wood cleaned up, and the varnish was cleaned and restored. It looks and sounds 100% better, but still has the look and feel of an old instrument. Technician Ty did the repairs and worked with me to hold the costs down and restore this precious family instrument. All costs were explained up-front and everything was clear. My cello is a real workhorse and I've played gigs all over the country including many places outside: the beach, farms, orchards, gardens.. I even did a wedding in drizzling rain where I had to walk a quarter mile through the forest without my case. So naturally it has gotten a bit dinged up along the way. It has always played good and although I knew eventually I should take it into a shop, I was never able to afford to until very recently. I came to House of Note with my concerns: some new cracks, the neck was all messed up, the wood needed to be cleaned and conditioned, my fine tuners were so full of rosin I could barely use them, new strings, and my bow needed TLC. Everyone was super helpful at the shop and over the phone. It took about a week and $900 later (totally reasonable considering all that they did and how much work it needed), my cello looks and sounds better than ever!! They even helped me fix an issue with my case so that I didn't need to purchase a new one. I'm new to Minnesota and am going to begin teaching again. Although it is about a 45 minute drive for me, and probably over an hour for my new students, I am definitely going to send them here. Highly recommended for all your string instrument needs!

I called Jeff at ToneTron Amps and he fixed it right up for less than the price of a new subwoofer. He did it quickly (about a week because he had to order some parts) and kept me apprised of the situation the whole way. He also explained exactly what was wrong and showed me the blown parts that he had fixed. Now my speakers work good as new and I didn't have to throw a subwoofer into a landfill. I called up the shop on a Sunday afternoon - in the middle of my "help-me-my-banjo-is-broken!!!-panic"...and I was surprised to hear Tom himself answer the phone. I talked to him a few minutes & made an appointment to have my banjo operated on the following day. I think I was lucky to get out of the shop for just under $60. For that $60...I got new tuning pegs, a new bridge, new strings (+ a lesson on how to string it myself), the head tightened, and a few other minor adjustments. I know there are other places where I could have taken my banjo to be repaired (Homestead Pickin' Parlor, Schmitt Music, My Music Store, etc) but I felt like Nechville Music was really my only option...I knew my banjo was in good hands...and I knew I would walk away happy...and I did.. :)

As for your 150.00 sorry but that was prob. labor. he worked on your instrument to try to help it. He deserves the money. If your car was looked at the labor would still be charged and you would be told to total the car or that they could not fix it. That being said the person who owns this shop has retired over 8 years ago I think. I just did not want others thinking he is still there. I started playing at age 7 and I can say thing about my experience with Castle Accordion it was always good. Just because you do not like the outcome do not take it out on the owner. I was told to throw mine out. I am sure if you went to the same place as I did he would have told you the same thing. At least Castle tried to fix it.

As soon as we got it home, the bass buttons immediately got messed up again, falling into the holes. No details were given as to what was actually repaired, and the only comment back from Castle was "well this old accordion needs alot more than $150 of work" yet he of course had no problem in taking $150 from us and being sneaky about what that money would accomplish. We spent $150 and came home with a broken accordion! Beware! I can not recommend dealing with Castle Accordion, which is a shame - we were absolutely ripped off.
