I'm very disappointed with my recent experience at Guitar Center. I brought in my bass for a setup -- paid $100, and while the setup itself was done well, I found a chip in the finish right by the truss rod adjustment near the nut. That damage was not there when I dropped it off. If you're taking your instrument in for service, inspect it thoroughly before and after. I trusted them with my gear, and they failed me. Edit: Guitar Center got back to me and resolved the issue, and I'm happy with the outcome. It was a bit difficult to get in touch with the manager at first, but I appreciate that they ultimately made it right. read more

I have had great experiences every time I visit this Guitar Center. Today's visit was especially excellent. I thought I needed a new input jack for my vintage Takamine. I called the store and spoke to Aden in the repair shop. He suggested that I bring in the guitar and let him take a look. When I got there, he remembered speaking with me over the phone. He asked to see my guitar and took some time to look at everything inside, the electronics and all, and said it looked like all was in order. I told him that it seemed to cut out some. He plugged it in and began playing. He played for several minutes, moving it around as he played and it never would cut out. He suggested that maybe the cord I had been using was bad and that I just buy a new cord instead of paying for a more costly repair. There was no charge for his assessment. And I gladly bought a new cord. When I got ready to check out, Michael graciously offered to help me and took care of the transaction. I have the highest recommendation for this Guitar Center , and especially Aden in the repair shop. read more

Seems our economic transition is taking its toll on Guitar Center. It used to be a titillating sensual experience to come in here, to shop for your musical needs. The smell of hot electronics, the not-so-good guy playing too loud on the electric guitar, the feel of the exotic wood acoustic axes in the back room. Most of that experience is abbreviated these days. I've been in a couple of times in the past few months and the experience isnt the same and neither is the inventory. Due to staff shortages (I assume), all the good guitars are locked up. During this visit there was no one around to unlock a couple of nice acoustics I was interested in taking a closer look at and play. Hopefully, they pull themselves out of the nosedive. Every community needs a good music store handy, so our young people can be inspired to play music. I still say,if you are in need of musical instruments, repairs, expert advice, etc, don't give up on them yet but... Go! read more

Amazing selection of guitars and other instruments. There's no where better if you want to get your hands on a wide variety of instruments to "test drive" before you buy. There's some great deals to be had if you keep your eyes open for guitars on clearance. I've bought multiple axes, gig bags, and amplifiers from this Guitar Center. I've always found the staff to be helpful and the products to be outstanding. The one time I was dissatisfied with a purchase the staff processed the return with no problem. I took a guitar in for set-up and was pleased with how quickly they were able to turn it around, even if their pricing isn't the cheapest in the area for this service. I haven't tried lessons here, but I'm thinking about it as their rates seem pretty reasonable and I'd like to grow in my skills. read more

Employees here are about 50/50. Some are really nice and helpful, and others are just completely rude unfortunately. Had a run in with one of the rude employees and honestly just kind of ruined my day. I went in looking for a pedal to buy and was about to buy it but I ended up changing my mind. I told the guy there and he just gave me a look and didn't say anything. But I still ended up buying something and while he was checking me out I said sorry about that and got no response. Eventually I purchased my item and said thank you and I got a rude stare. I Just felt very unwelcome and won't be back at this location anytime soon :/ read more

I had the experience of taking my guitar to guitar center to hav the action setup and see what is going on with the fret buzz.. After paying over 100 dollars, the tech told me the action was setup but the fret buzz was due to incorrect size frets on the guitar. I said there is no way that is possible. They told me to take to the Tone Shop to have it plek'd. So I took it there and after the analysis was complete, the luthier told me the neck is perfect and the issue was how the action was setup along with the neck adjustment. I got it back and now it plays amazing. I paid 86.00 and no plek was needed. The chart was perfectly aligned and nothing wrong with the frets. They also mentioned that it is impossible to have incorrect frets installed on a Sabre guitar. Guitar Center does not have trained techs and won't be going back to them ever. This place is awesome if you want to hang out, practice piano or guitar for free. It's a great place to investigate any instrument that you want to buy without being harassed by pesky sales people (who are also just hanging out, even more than the customers!). If you actually want to spend money and buy something...well, go somewhere else...found what I wanted. Stood around for 45 minutes while some dude practiced piano in the keyboard room. Looked for a sales person but it was hard to discern them from the other children playing with all the instruments. So ordering on line from a "not" Guitar Center. read more

Most guitar centers I've been to have a real problem with inattentive and unhelpful staff, almost as if they are trained to be. Not the case at this location for me this past weekend. I was immediately greeted and assisted even though the store was really busy. Forgot the name of the guy helping me, but wish I did as he deserves credit for this 5 star review. He had great energy and somehow managed to juggle multiple customers without me (or the others) feeling for a minute like I was being ignored. Great job. Unfortunately I decided to go with a guitar in a combo/color they didn't have in stock, but I'll definitely be back for other things. read more

Big negative for not having an answering machine or message stating the hours! They were closed when I pulled up at 7:45 pm the sign said reduced hours M - F 10:00 am to 7:00 pm. The website says 9:00 pm is closing time. I called and the phone just rang with no answering machine. Waste of time. read more

It is very difficult trying to get technical information on anything, especially in the music production area..much of the equipment isn't even connected and trying to find someone to even answer simple questions is useless. I wish could get some musical employees there or shut down. The whole experience has to be revamped. read more

Great music store. The selection of instruments are vast. They get busy quite often I like the vibes and it's a great place to just pick a guitar off the shelf. Sit down and jam a little bit. Customer service is OK and from my experience it would've been nice to have more than just one person doing repairs, or adjustments to instruments. I had a poor experience yesterday (4/29/25). I called earlier in the day to get strings put on an old guitar and the gentleman on the phone said they could do it for $ 30 and to bring it over, they closed he said 9. I show up at 5:15 to have the strings put on, the gentleman who I had spoken on the phone with directed me to another table where a guy was stringing a guitar. I explained what I needed done, and the guy literally gasps out loud and rolls his eyes and says "I was supposed to get off 20 minutes ago". I said well, they don't have to even be tuned or nice strings, this guitar is for an art installation, I just need strings on it. He gasps again, and says "Well, I don't even know what I would charge for this". I explained that the guy at the front desk told me $30. I said I can leave it with you and pick it up tomorrow. I said it's also missing one tuning peg, if you have one. He eyerolled me again and gasps "I just can't work on that", and waved me off. I told him "it sounds like you're having a bad day". As I left told the gentleman at the front door, whom I had talked to on the phone earlier, to tell the guitar stringer that he's a complete (insert bad word). Guy was a total jerk. So I left and found another store who happily did the work I required. Very poor experience for me. I sincerely hope the stringer guy finds a better attitude, he was a very unhappy individual. read more

If I could give zero stars, I would. I ordered an effects pedal online that I needed for an important gig. I didn't want to mess around trying to find it in store, so I bought it online with curbside delivery selected. I get to the store, and check in using the email that Guitar Center sent me. It was clear - click "here" when you're here, and we'll bring it out to you. I waited five minutes, ten minutes, fifteen minutes. Nothing. I call the store and tell them I've been waiting for 15 minutes, "Yeah, we don't do curbside checkout anymore - you'll need to come in." That would have been nice to know. I went in and was clearly miffed. My time on this particular day was valuable. I had to wait a couple of minutes before anyone looked up. I told them I had been waiting for a curbside delivery. No apologies. No acknowledgement. I finally said, "Were you ever going to let me know?" The clearly apathetic guy behind the counter said, "We're one of the busiest stores in the metroplex." By looking around the store, I had to think that his definition of "busy" and mine differ considerably. Finally, they brought it out to me. I asked a couple of times, "Why do you do allow curbside checkout if you don't actually do it?" Again, no response. Every negative thing you hear about Guitar Center is true. The company is hemorrhaging money, and I see why. I've never walked out of a Guitar Center without thinking, "I know more about this stuff than they do," and that now includes customer service. By the way, when I got home and took the pedal out of the box, it had clearly been used. There was still some adhesive residue on the bottom. It worked fine though, and I'll keep it, but my chances of ever returning to a Guitar Center again decreased exponentially. I'm sure there are good stores still out there, but the Plano location ain't it. read more

Dear business manager. I think mine is 3rd review in 1 month with same issue in this store. I have no interest in reaching out to you so you can 'take this seriously'. You definitely aren't. Lowered to one star for sending me a canned response. . I visited this location twice to make purchase. The first time there was someone behind counter in the keyboard section dealing with a customer and there was others in line. I did not give a low rating because of that. But I took off early from work to try to beat the crowds. There were plenty of workers behind the main counter and not a single one looked up to even half way make themselves look approachable. The keyboard area was empty of people. About 5 customers came through the area while I was there. I mistook one with a lanyard for an employee. I stood outside the opening to the keyboard center looking directly at the staff behind main counter. Every one of them was nose down and never looked up. And I left. *initial review* I purchased a digital piano here in past but I guess you are expected to beg for help here. Do not expect to be asked if you need assistance. I guess this mentality of service feels different depending on your age. I personally will buy my next Roland elsewhere. read more

Showed up at 7:55 and they were closed despite everything saying they are open til 9:00. Called the next day to ask about trade-ins, guy said come in any time before 8:00. Drove all the way down again the next day at 4:00, and after being ignored for 10 minutes, rude guy said they can't take trade-ins because they "might get busy". He said there were only 2 employees working, but I counted 5... two of whom were just hanging out chatting ignoring everyone. So I think what he meant to say was that there were only 2 employees actually doing anything, but even that is debatable. Really felt overall that this store needs an adult. read more

I saw on Guitar Center's website that this location has the Taylor guitar I was looking for, in stock. I went in to buy the guitar today, however no one offered to help me or even point out where the acoustic guitars were. The store is in disarray, with inventory boxes everywhere and products randomly displayed. It's a mess. The guitars aren't even ordered by brand or type. Again, although I was in the acoustic guitar area no one came back to assist, and when I returned to the front of the store I saw that I was the only customer and all of the employees were up front talking amongst themselves. I came to buy a $2,000 guitar and the staff didn't even offer to unlock it for me. I decided to buy elsewhere, and as I was leaving an employee finally said, "Did you find what you were looking for?" Oh yeah, an independent store in McKinney that has the same guitar and wants my business. read more

Went in to buy a beginner acoustic guitar for my son. Tons of choice, looked at a bunch of options for probably 15-20 minutes but was never approached by a single person on the store. Son was interested in a particular Fender, took it to an employee and asked if it would work for a beginner or is there something else he would recommend. The answer was "whatever you get will work." Not a great response to a 10 year old that's wanting to get into playing. Still bought it since the deal was a good one. But would not recommend going back. read more

I ended up spending $2200 at Tone Shop Guitars in Addison. Great shop with an awesome selection and really good staff. You always get greeted by a friendly person or two when you walk in. Also they let you play their high end acoustics unlike guitar center who locks up everything over $800. Go to Tone Shop in Addison, shop online, or maybe stop playing, but don't go to this place anymore. They need to be out of business asap. read more

I've been looking to trade in my DDrum kit with lots of extra percussion pieces. I went to visit Guitar Center in Plano Texas, and one of their sales representatives named Jonny (spelled correctly) helped me, and I can't say enough how incredible his service was/is ! Mind you, I had a lot of stuff he had to organize before he could even start pricing things out! I was blown away by Jonny's patience and fantastic customer service. This process took between 3 to 4 hours and at times there were quite a few customers in the drum section. So I told Jonny to please feel free to help other customers out, as I didn't want to dominate all his time. He was able to handle everyone with excellent service during my time there. After he gave me my total for everything I bought an Alesis electronic set that he had to order. Once I got it and played it for a couple of weeks I was really missing my acoustic kit! So, you're probably see where I'm going with all this, but yes, I ended up returning the Alesis kit (great kit by the way if you prefer electronic drums) and like Jonny did the first time, he helped me carry everything back into the store from my SUV and I bought a new Tama acoustic kit that again Jonny had to order for me only because they didn't have the particular color I'm wanted. Jonny has been just incredible with everything! Not to mention he's been with Guitar Center for a very long time! He's very knowledgeable and just so happens to be an incredible drummer! Through all the time he's spent helping me find the right kit, I now consider him a personal friend of mine. You just don't find this level of customer service anymore these days. One star is being generous unfortunately it's the lowest yelp allows. I was foolish enough to sign up for guitar lessons in this location to fulfill a long time bucket list goal starting the second week of April. I decided to come here today and buy a new guitar at this location. Well I walk in , no one greeted me , the staff couldn't be bothered to acknowledge me or talk to me. I walked around aimlessly for an hour then left. I should not have to beg them to take 1000 dollars from me. They have zero understanding what work or being in sales means. They all seemed to be goofing around the cash register talking to each other. Zero customer service , zero interaction with me and assisting me with a purchase. Seems the store is just for looking and playing with the items so you can buy online or elsewhere. Good business model , shocked it hasn't caught on. I wish I can say I won't be back, I am stuck spending 4 hours here for 4 weeks. I am hoping their teaching is better the selling. Some how I seem to think I threw my money out the window on guitar lessons here. It explains why guitar canter is forecasting lower revenues and is constantly in financial problems. Your employee Ben was extremely rude today. I went in to purchase new drum heads and asked for a specific brand. He continued to be rude and disrespectful telling me basically the brand I WANTED and loved was a piece of shit. He advised me that "he played in a band" so he knew better. I have played for 7 years, have been through multiple brands of drum heads so I know what sounds good to me. I asked for assistance in installing the bottom drum piece but he complained the entire time that I was not putting Evans heads on. I ended up getting what I needed and left. Next time, I will spend my money elsewhere. read more

Really poor experience at the Guitar centre. The website suggests that they have many electric kits to view when in reality, most of the sets they have out are either 2nd hand or incomplete. We waited for over 20 minutes in the drum section for someone to help us, no one ever appeared. Even after asking at the main desk, they could not find Jonny anywhere who, it seems, is the only person who can help with that area. The staff were NOT interested in helping at all and did not care that after 30 minutes we simply walked out. I wanted to buy my husband a new drum kit for his birthday but I'd rather give my $1500 budget to a company who actually cares about their customers and offers a good customer service/experience...or any customer service!!! read more

Today was the worst experience I have ever had inside of a guitar center. All of the staff was standing around doing absolutely nothing not trying to help anybody look at guitar is not trying to bring any off the walls not trying to answer any questions then when you come and ask them about the layaway program, they tell you that they can do it take you through all of the process from it then at the very end of it, tell you that they don't do it anymore which is the dumbest thing I've ever fucking heard in my life it's terrible business practice. You guys have lost a customer who has shopped with you for over 15 years and I will never be back from the terrible customer support that I had for lack of customer service that I had for the lack of chair you have for your customer just in general you guys fucking suck as a company as employees that work at this specific store, you guys are the bottom of the barrel worthless dog shit I will never step foot into another guitar center. Anytime I want to purchase something, I go to Sam Ash. They always have everything working, and it's nice and neat. I have spent over 10 grand there in the past year and a half on a new church.
