I did see some reviews about this place that made me nervous to buy a guitar here but I also saw some good ones and decided to try it out. I didn't mind so much getting a guitar that had minor issues, what I really hated was the attitude and unhinged behavior of the owner. It's a very "old-school" approach in the guitar and music world for older men to act belligerent, as if they are the only ones in the world with any common sense, when in truth they are simply the loudest and most arrogant. Times have changed and I hope the owner, instead of arguing with this review (which I imagine he will) goes to therapy and learns how to converse respectfully with others. Also the negative reviews where he says "you're referring to a different store " are BS, they are absolutely about this shop and he is trying to gaslight. read more

We rented a Clarinet for our Grandson and we were disappointed. The box was we were given was damaged, old and falling apart. We returned the Clarinet which they took back without any issue and weeks later were contacted and they said we own Guitar Hangar $375.00 because we damaged their Clarinet. THIS WAS TOTALLY UNTRUE! And on top of this false allegation Guitar Hanger charged our Debit Card for the full price! We disputed the charge and unfortunately lost and had to pay. We will never go back and recommend that you should think it before going there also! read more

I have been coming here for years for lessons and Rick has always been super accommodating to my schedule. The guitar teachers have been great and made me feel comfortable playing in front of them. As for guitars I have purchased two from him and both are gems. One I bought off the wall, the second was special ordered. I was looking on line and found a Gretch White Falcon Stephen Stills edition. He was able to find it and get it for me. It's been a pleasure to come here week after week taking lessons. My usual guitar tech that I bring my instruments to for many years has been unavailable, so I figured I would give Rick at Guitar Hangar a try for my 7 string Ernie Ball Music Man JPXI-7 which I have had since 2011. He was available to setup my guitar the same day for $100 in only a little over an hour. This where the positive aspects of my experience with him end. Upon dropping off the guitar, I noticed he asked me 0 questions about how I want it to be setup, not even what tuning I play in or action height preferences. A little over an hour later, when I got there to pick up my guitar, he promptly hands me the wrong guitar ... when I do get the correct guitar back it is wildly out of tune and feels like a struggle to play, the opposite of "like butter." There is a ton of buzzing on the low string, and after several adjustments and back and forth trying it out I finally decide the buzzing is not too bad and accept the guitar back, hoping that once I get back to my home rig, I can tune up properly and really see where things stand. That was my big mistake because I didn't have a proper amp to plug into at his shop to see what the tone would really be like and there were phones constantly ringing and other distractions. So, at this point I hoped for the best and accepted the guitar back and told him that I'd bring in my 2 other guitars to have them worked on in the future (thank God I didn't) because I didn't yet realize the extent of the problems it had in that very moment. When I get back home, I plug the guitar into my amp and immediately notice the output and gain is significantly lower. If I want gain for a nice heavy rhythm guitar tone, it is just not there. I swap to a different guitar and the problem is gone, ruling out any issue with my amp. The guitar he worked on is my highest output guitar and has great pickups for a high gain sound, so something was clearly wrong. The other issue is the guitar would not stay in tune whatsoever after the setup, and the intonation was off all over the neck. I emailed Rick right away explaining the problem and asked if he had adjusted the pickups or did anything to the electronics to account for the loss in output. He said that he did not but offered to adjust the pickups if I wanted. Much like going back to a doctor that botched your surgery, it did not make any sense to me to return to give him another round at damaging my guitar. A day later I brought the guitar to be looked at by a different tech, who confirmed that after working on thousands of guitars, that mine had "one of the worst setups he had ever seen" and "don't bring it back there and you should get a refund." The strings were raised far too high off the fretboard to compensate for buzzing that occurred because of a back bow in the neck, effectively placing them too far from the pickups to get a proper tone. I emailed Rick asking for a refund which he of course refused, saying that "he set it up to my specs" he never asked for any specs in the first place because he goes by "Feel" not numeric values for string height! High action to me where I like it is about 3/32, this was 4 times higher than that! I am doing my due diligence to warn others, if you care about your instrument - please do not bring it to Rick Tedesco, he is like the fast-food drive thru of guitar techs in that you will get it quick and then regret it long-term. read more

I've been collecting since 1996, I am quite particular... I've been following them for a few years online... they get good pieces rather frequently, I live far away, finally went in. Pandemic has ALL stores rolling with skimpy selection. So, have to keep that in mind at the moment. Still, they had a couple cool guitars and a killer old fender Head/Cab... can't wait til the brain eating zombie virus is gone, wanna visit when they have open jams again... overall, better than average for a local shop. read more

Thought I would give this place a shot, meanwhile this place is SHOT. Came in looking to get my baritone 6 string setup and asked them what string gauges would be appropriate. The workers had no idea, made me wait 30 minutes, and then brought out the string gauges I told them I already tried and wouldn't fit. At this point it felt like I worked there because no one knew anything other than basic guitar questions (how many strings on a guitar). They had zero selection for strings, and packages looked like they have all been opened and modified (Ernie Ball). There is no direction or management in this store and no one had advanced knowledge about guitars at all. Guitar Center is better and that's a shame I am saying this. I always wondered why mom-and-pop guitar stores never did well, this is a prime example. Uneducated and unhelpful just looking for a penny on their overpriced products I could buy online cheaper. Rick has been my go-to guy for basses and amplifiers for more than 10 years now. He stocks a great selection of gear in all price ranges, and if he doesn't have what you want he'll find it for you. His prices are very competitive, but where Rick really shines is in his expert knowledge of music and instruments, and his fanatical commitment to customer service. One time I blew a speaker in a cabinet I purchased at the 'Hangar -- it was under warranty, so all I had to do was send it back to the manufacturer and wait for a replacement. Rick personally took care of shipping the blown speaker back to the maker, and when the replacement was delayed by back orders he got on the phone with them and insisted they pull a speaker from their production area and ship it to me immediately, which they did. He didn't have to to that, and I doubt anyone else would. So I'm a Guitarhangar customer for life. read more
