We love GVH! They have taken great care of our dog, Zoey, in their med office as well as boarding for the last year. They also came to our rescue yesterday when we learned that our newly adopted dog, Gibson, needed to be treated for parasites and they got us in just a few hours later. We were having some issues with our cat and we wanted to get him in as soon as possible. I'm glad we called this place. On a Friday afternoon we were able to squeeze him into the schedule within an hour of calling which is unheard of! Upon entering the staff was very kind and greeted us while showering our cat with compliments and petting. We sat in the exam room for maybe 10 min until the vet showed up. Dr. Gustafson was a fine vet. We felt he was very honest with our cat's condition and didn't try and upsell us on unnecessary tests and procedures. He was even very interested in our other pets as well as we talked about bringing them in. What's also nice about this place is that it offer boarding and grooming services. I definitely endorse this place if you live in the Boulder/Longmont area and are looking to have your pets checked out. read more

This is such an amazing vet clinic and boarding facility! I have cats and dogs who have always been terrified of going to the vet, but when we go to gunbarrel vet clinic I can tell that they are comfortable, my cats will even walk out of their carriers willingly instead of being pulled out for their vaccines and exams. I also love that for some vaccines we can do just a quick walk in appointment. I also feel like the vets here don't want to steal my money, they genuinely care about all of my pets and want the best care for them. My pets comfort here speaks for itself! read more

I can only speak from our boarding experience, not veterinary care. Boarding is expensive here and if you want to include doggie day care, it breaks the bank. Both times we boarded our dog here, the staff lost several of his belongings, even though we had labeled them clearly. We lost a padded doggy bed and several toys. The second time, we mistakenly came home with someone else's expensive-looking puppy blanket. Additionally, his traveling crate was chewed apart on the outside, leading us to believe he was either unsupervised outside of his crate or crated with another dog that was trying to jailbreak him. On our first visit, they returned all of his soft food to us un-opened, even though there were clear instructions that he needed it every day in addition to his kibble. I'd recommend Cottonwood Kennels over this place. Wonderful staff and day care is included if you board. read more

I am beyond impressed with everyone at Gunbarrel Vet. We are new to Boulder and initially came to this vet out of convenience for our routine check ups and what not. I was pleased with the services and glad I happened to choose this place out of the many vets around. We saw Dr. Gustafson and he was really great with my dogs. However just recently... I'll spare the gory details... but my dogs had been boarded at another facility and my beagle Myles was having some serious GI issues as a result. I came home from work after a 12 hour night shift to a complete disaster and a very sick beagle. I called Gunbarrel Vet right away with my concerns and they were able to fit Myles in first thing. I had to bring my little dog Lucy as well because I just didn't know what else to do with her- she was a hot mess too as they were in the same kennel. Myles was okay and could have come home with me, but they offered to keep him for the day so I could get some rest and they could keep a closer eye on him- I am extremely appreciative of that. We saw Dr. Vail this time and she was great. She took a serious yet conservative approach to treating Myles- avoiding unnecessary and expensive tests. The groomer is also amazing. He was able to take Lucy right then to give her a quick bath, which gave me enough time to run home and clean up the mess. He also made sure Myles had a bath before I picked him up in the afternoon. I am super grateful for the groomer and baths as well!!! The entire staff at Gunbarrel Vet made a horrible morning not so bad!!! read more

After traveling to Boulder with my senior pet and her prescription food not making it with us, I was frantically looking for a vet who carried it and Gunbarrel was it! With no questions asked they set some aside for me and it was ready to go with my name on it when I arrived shortly after calling. The staff was very friendly and even kept me in the system incase I ever ran into this situation again. The facilities were clean and there were several dogs having fun in the back at doggie daycare. We had an awesome experience here a couple of months back when our dog got bit... We've been taking him to Gunbarrel Grooming which we really like and which shares a parking lot with the vet, so we thought we'd give the vet a try. The receptionists were super friendly and stuffed our puppy full of healthy treats, and handled getting all of his and our cats files faxed from Savannah. We saw Dr. Gustafson, who actually listened to what we had to say, rather than doing that thing that so many vets (and people doctors, for that matter) do where they sort of seem to tune out what you're saying while they're doing their examination. He was very thorough and a took the time to answer our questions in a way that really made us feel like he cared. While paying, we asked if they boarded rabbits, and were then swept along on a tour of the whole facility, which was so clean and full of happy puppies. Very glad that it was so easy to find a vet that we like and trust. Would 100% recommend. read more

This review is for the doggie daycare. We take our 3 year old dog here about once a week - she loves it and we love it because she is exhausted when we pick her up after work! They let the dogs play all day in a supervised area that is shaded. The people at the front desk are super nice - we have had some great chats! They are conveniently located right off the Diagonal, so drop off and pick up is a snap/not out of the way. read more

We have been going to Gunbarrel for everything- vet, boarding and day care. We couldn't be happier! The people are amazing- Dr. Gustafson is who we choose to see and he is the best. He truly cares and always offers great advice- our two dogs have had a host of medical issues as they have aged and we completely trust Dr. G. The boarding and day care staff is simply amazing- I don't know where they find such a consistently great group of people! Our dogs are high maintenance as far as health issues and we feel so lucky to board them with people that we know will take great care of them. When a health issue did arise, the staff went above and beyond to transfer our dog to specialists that could help her with heart issues-we were out of town and this gave us great peace. Our little dog loves day care and they give cute report cards when we pick her up. The front desk staff is extremely kind and wonderful- they make it such a great experience to work with them. We really can't say enough positive things about Gunbarrel- we wouldn't go anywhere else! read more

I researched for the best place to take my 13 year old cat, Jade. I was moving to the area and didn't know anyone else in the area. This place came up every time as THE BEST. So I went in with pretty high expectations. I ended up arriving a few minutes late because my GPS brought me to the wrong area. They still were incredibly friendly and got Jade in only a few minutes after I arrived. I met with an incredibly sweet and knowledgeable vet tech who very patiently listened as I rambling on and on about how precious my princess is and how I want the best quality of life for her. Because I admit I did end up rambling about my cat. She weighed my princess quite delicately and didn't force Jade to do anything she didn't want to do. Then after giving the history of Jade and her life story the head vet came in. She was just as sweet and patient and kind to Jade. They both complimented Jade on how well behaved she was and she got a huge piece of tartar out of Jade's mouth. I never learned to brush her teeth growing up. Also I came in with a bunch of things I wanted the vet's opinion on using for my cat (like a gel to help with hairballs, and whether a cat toothpaste and brush would be appropriate or if it was a gimmicky one, sometimes it's hard to tell if you're getting the real deal or a gimmicky thing) but she was very patient and listened to all my concerns. She was familiar with the products I brought in and then compared them to the ingredients in the ones she recommends. Which I truly appreciate. Luckily I bought good stuff. Also they didn't give me the run around with prices, they asked if they could do something, like blood work and let me know the price up front. I felt the prices were incredibly fair. At least compared to the human equivalent. I got her blood work, the consultation, and x-rays without breaking the bank. Try doing that with human care without insurance, it's just not going to happen. This was only my first time, mind you, but I felt my expectations were really exceeded here. Everyone was friendly and they treated my cat like the princess she truly is. Oh, and they trimmed her claws for free. Which is good, they were getting long and if they didn't do it I would have to get Jade to get her claw trimmed. I do plan on learning eventually though. read more

Exceptional! I had an appointment set then my dog was attacked and left with an ear injury, I had never been before and called to see if they could move my appointment forward. They let me come in and cleaned her wounds, even updated on vaccines. My new vet with out a doubt!! read more

I've taken my Malamute, Tundra, here for boarding twice, and am generally satisfied with the care he has received. They have been very accomodating of last minute reservations. Tundra is a bit of a jerk with other dogs (typical dominant northern breed), so I was a little worried about kenneling him. They were patient enough to work with him with other dogs to help socialize him, so now he can be in normal day care. The staff were friendly when I called on a daily basis (okay maybe twice) to check on him, and I feel comfortavle leaving my baby there. He seemed dehydrated both times he came home, but I think it's just because he's so big and their water dishes are too small. Easily fixed by taking his dish next time. The first time we went here was on a Sunday (they are only open for pickups, but we were leaving on Monday and needed to talk to someone). The girl who was on staff (and very busy) took the time to make a reservation, find all the paperwork we would need, and give us a tour of the facility. She talked to us about our dog's specific needs and clearly relayed the information since every staff member I spoke to during that week knew all about Tundra (that or I'm just that crazy dog owner that they're used to and were all prepared for). read more

I am not a big fan of writing reviews but I am making an exception. We had a very bad experience at this vet. I will attempt to be as accurate as possible. We had two older dogs and had just moved to town. This vet is close to us and we thought why not. Everything was fine until one of our dogs ate a bandage. He was very sick and seemed in bad shape but the vet urged us to wait for surgery. He gave us some pain meds to give to the dog and sent us home. It turns out the wrong dosage was given to us almost double what we should have had. They did apologize for the mistake. After the three thousand dollar surgery the dog dies the next day. We had waited to long. Fine it happens. Fast forward a few weeks and we receive a letter that the check I wrote has been sent to collections. I accidentally put a stop payment on the wrong check and they didn't inform us just sent it to collections. We did get the payment squared away but really really had a horrific experience from there back office to there care. I would be extremely cautious here.We will absolutely never go back. read more

I boarded two dogs here, while I was closing on a house. We had used Gunbarrel years before with excellent service. This time it was far from excellent. The staff is just plain rude when I asked how my dogs were. They were boarding for a month. I asked to extend stay for two weeks. The said "No". I'm actually glad they did. My dogs were moved to another kennel that is more suitable! read more

I wish I could leave ZERO STARS - or better, NEGATIVE STARS. I started going to Gunbarrel Veterinary Hospital for convenience -- had just moved to the Niwot area and they have such a wonderful facility. I left Gunbarrel Veterinary Hospital because my dog got attacked in their lobby and the staff showed little/no concern about the situation and did not reprimand the client who allowed her dog, Rosie (a Rottweiler) to enter the lobby unattended. The catalyst for this review is the new article I saw recently (http://kdvr.com/2015/03/01/owners-raise-concerns-after-dog-injured-at-doggie-daycare/) Here's what happened: I was sitting on the couch in the lobby waiting for my 2nd dog to have his shots administered in the back examining room. The dog with me was leashed and well attended. In walks Rosie, trailing her leash. Her owner, at least 15 feet behind Rosie,was yammering with the staff on her way into the lobby. Obviously, she and Rosie were "regulars." For some inexplicable reason, Rosie decides to charge across the lobby and lunge at my dog's throat, scaring him to death. Rosie's owner saunters over to the couch after the attack and says "Rosie never does that." Well, she did. I just witnessed it. The staff simply leaned over the counter and asked "is your dog alright?" I believe a pat on the head and a quick check to SEE if my dog actually WAS alright is not to much to have asked, given the situation. A veterinary lobby is the LAST PLACE one should expect their dog to get attacked. Rules should be in place -- AND ENFORCED: dogs on leash and attended by owners AT ALL TIMES. I was abiding by that best practice. Rosie's owner was not. And the staff at Gunbarrel Veterinary Hospital in no way appeared to be inclined to enforce such a rule. I would NOT RECOMMEND that anyone take their dog to Gunbarrel Veterinary Hospital. It is the most convenient veterinary facility in my area and I will never return. Two dogs. Lots of years left and lots of money to spend on veterinary care. The recent article showing yet another incident of lack of attention, is simply reinforcement of my decision. Dogs will be dogs. You never know how they will interact. That's what leashes and careful attention/interaction are intended to prevent. And, veterinary facilities should be the most diligent purveyors of such best practices. It appears that Gunbarrel Veterinary Hospital has not figured this out. If you care about your pets, DO NOT take them to this vet. read more

I was thrown a phalanx of tests, procedures, and other possible medicines for what is otherwise a very healthy dog. I walked out with a tab that was MUCH larger than in times past. I took my dog there for daycare and one day he got into a scuffle. They told me it wasn't his fault but he was involved so they banned him. They said they knew the other dogs better and that my dog was the one they decided to not have come back. It was close enough to the holidays where I couldn't find another place to board him for Christmas. When I came to drop him off for the holiday they said because he was kicked out of daycare they could only keep him in a kennel all day long. I was in no place to question this, my dog had broken the rules and there was nowhere else to take him. What the kicker was even though they had kicked him out of daycare, they had taken and published photos of him for their "Dogs of Daycare" 2017 calendar sold for $15/piece. So, they kicked my dog out of daycare but profited from him, he had three photos in the calendar! read more

After 11 years I thought we had found a great vet BUT all thathas changed since April left and they have hired young women who do't care about the animals. First problem was two weeks ago --today is the 5th of Aug 2017. August '17 Problem #1 front desk failed to call about the results of a lab procedure Reason: Since there was not a problem we don't call Really? We just pay for it and forget about the result? I DONT THINK SO! Problem #2 two days ago he needed boratella injection--usually given in the lobby and squirted up his nose. Not this time--my pup of 11 lbs (1yr 2mo old) was DRAGGED from the lobby--while he was sitting on the floor to the back of the chair behind the desk and then he stood up--She could't carry 11lbs so he would't be frightened--I said something to her which she completly ignored! THIS IS NO WAY TO RUN A VET--Tighten up the methods they use or let them find other work which they can relate to better than animals and their owners. I like the vets BUT I will change if they don't do something about their employees work habits. read more

Called ahead for pricing, and was told that it was approximately 27.50 a night to board my dog for the weekend. When we dropped him off we were told that although our own vet does the kennel cough vaccine for a year, they require it every six months. And they would be happy to do it there for an additional $28! It was $12.50 extra to get our dog one day in the play group. We arranged for a Sunday pick up, and picked him up at 3:30 pm. The young man who went to bring him out to us said that they had not written us down for a Sunday pick up, and when he brought our dog out to us he was covered in his own urine. We had to go somewhere to wash him before we could even go home! When we got the bill, we were charged for three nights (he stayed Friday and Saturday) as well as ANOTHER $14.50 to pick him up on Sunday afternoon. If we picked him up on Sunday afternoon, WHY are you charged for pick up as well as an additional night that he spent at home???? That is craziness. Rather than the $75 ish we anticipated, our bill was $142! For Friday, Saturday and until 3 pm on Sunday. I called to let them know I felt scammed and they said they would credit us back the Sunday pick up charge. Had to call twice to get them to actually do that. Would much rather leave my dog somewhere else in Gunbarrel where they charge a reasonable price and we didn't pick him up covered in his own urine. read more

We board our dogs at the kennel when we are out of town and see Dr. Gustafson and his staff. We have had medical issues with both of our our dogs as they have aged, and the peace of mind that we have by knowing they are in great hands in invaluable. Cannot say enough about how wonderful this place is. Entire staff is friendly, sensitive, helpful. They care about the well-being of the entire family and genuinely care about each patient. They take the time needed and never come across rushed. They listen carefully and never disregard a concern about my dog's health. Even their follow-up calls are considered and they take the time to explain everything, whether voicemail or not. They are easy to get ahold of and even when they are fully booked and dealing with multiple emergencies, reception is always calm and willing to work to make sure I get an appointment. No matter what else may be going on, the doctors and techs have always make me feel like my dog and I are the only ones in the building. read more

These people are great! We have been taking our two cats to Gunbarrel for vet services for years even after we moved to Denver. They are honest, knowledgeable and always excited to see Kiwi and Waffles in their clinic :) We have had several incidents which could have been very costly at a different clinic but Gunbarrel never tried to take advantage or over charge us. Once we thought our cat Kiwi had eaten a poisonous lily flower and we took her in and they evaluated her and gave her an IV and determined she had not been poisoned BEFORE trying to do more drastic and expensive services. Our other cat Waffles came down with ringworm several years ago and they were very helpful in giving us useful info about ringworm along with low cost treatments which cured him completely.
