Not impressed as I arrived. This place appears neglected on first look. The road is more dirt than gravel with potholes and very unattractive as I pulled in. They seem to forget that "First impressions are everything." The front sites appear to be mostly seasonal, long term. The pull through sites in the back had adequate space but little shade. No fire pits or grills. They just have a large trailer for trash which was open for viewing and overflowing. This isn't a quiet spot. Even in the back pull through sites the highway noise is noticeable, especially the regular truck Jake brakes. At 4:15am a train came by blowing its horn. So much for sleeping in. The bathhouse was very clean but taking a shower, I never got more than lukewarm water. They have nice laundry facilities with plenty of machines ($3.50 wash/$1.00+ to dry). The pool looks clean but the deck area and chairs are old. Honestly the office area and building looks like it was probably nice and fun in its heyday but now isn't inviting at all. The playground is also a bit rundown. Lots of potential but doesn't seem to be the kind of place the owners reinvest much back into it. Just a fresh coat of paint and stain would go a long way everywhere. I have no idea what other RV options are available in Dodge City so not sure if this is "the nice place" or not, but if I come back through I'll have to check. Even though I paid for two nights I left after day one. read more

We had a site in far back area where nicer rigs,5th wheels where and felt better,open area,level sotes,dirt packed, wide open full hook ups Train runs near and horns sound off, trucks drive on nearer roads with J-brakes. read more

We picked this place with high hopes of it being called Gunsmoke and it showed to have a fun environment. Boy, were we WRONG! This place desperately needs to update their photos on their website because NOTHING looks the same. None of the games in the game room worked. The pool was green and brown but was still turned on and being filtered. WHY? I have no clue because no one was swimming in that nasty water. Needs some major maintenance around the park. This RV park could have a lot of potential if they did some work but clearly that's not the case. The office has the most ridiculous hours. read more

This was our second time staying here, and once again it did not disappoint. Their sites are good sized (rv + trailer=65 feet) we are able to pull through without having to disconnect which is always a plus. They have nice level spots with plenty of grass for comfort. They've added more sites since our last visit (2 years ago) Although we didn't use it this trip, the pool was still open, granted we were there Tuesday right after the Labor Day holiday weekend. Staff is always friendly & ready to assist with recommendations, assistance or whatever support you need. If you're heading to Dodge City give them a call, you won't be disappointed. read more

Nice clean park with small and large sites. Some sites have trees and grass and picnic table ( old and splintery). They are expanding and a lot of construction but not loud or a issue. My main complaint is while we have been here we have had 2 huge lightning, thunder and gusting winds storms with winds from 80-100 mph. We had notice on our phones of the first storm and were well prepared. The second one we didn't see the notices and were enjoying the light show eating dinner on our side patio with awning out. The winds started in seconds to within a minute I kid you not were gale force and ripped the awning arm off the trailer on the one side twisted the other and my husband about killed himself strapping each end so it wouldn't damage the rv. No one came to check on us. The second storm a gal came by about lunchtime and didn't care about us was just checking on the sites for new people to check in. Not good customer service. If we had been hurt they wouldn't have cared less was the attitude I got. No concern that our rv was damaged. read more

WORST PLACE EVER. When we arrived at 2:30 pm there was no one in the office. We pulled into our space and completely unhooked our truck and set the entire camper up because we were going right into town. To our surprise there was no power. It appeared that someone had backed into the main source and it was being held together with rope or tape.I called 4 times but each time the line disconnected after 5 rings with no way to leave message. We moved to a different space and repeated the process. I sent 3 e-mails but still no response. I had to ask a neighbor for the bathroom, wifi and gate codes. The picnic tables were ancient and the surface was literally peeling up. The whole place is literally falling apart. 2 more campers came in the next morning and experienced the same thing. I feel like we should be refunded die to our horrible experience. read more

We enjoyed our stay for two nights. Unfortunately it was dusty because wind happens in Kansas and the park has gravel and dirt. However the owners take pride in their park. The bathrooms and showers were nice and clean. The pool looked welcoming and refreshing. Nice little store for souvenirs and some small food or cleaning items. Our site was in the front half of the park across from a really nice tent area, nice green grass area. Just wish the park had more of it throughout. Next time I will request the back half of the park. Being in the front half, we could hear the street activity as well as the nearby speedway. Maybe it isn't so bad on the back half also it has more mature trees and a bit more green. Close to drive into Dodge City and some really good pizza in town-Dodge City Pizza (I think that's the name). read more

We are fans of the TV show Gunsmoke, so this town has long been a planned destination. An RV park named Gunsmoke?? Oh, c'mon! No way we were passing up this place! I will get the two small negatives out of the way first. There are train tracks right across the road and it's a horn intersection, so you will hear the horns with fair regularity during the day, but they are fewer during the evening and overnight. The park has no control over the trains, obviously, but I feel they should be mentioned. The other negative is that we only found one dumpster on the property, and one half of its lid was smushed down into the dumpster making it hard to get our trash in when it was full. Now, the good stuff. We have a 35' TT and a 21' truck. The sites are level gravel, made from crushed cement, I think. They're very long and plenty wide. We easily park the truck nose-to-tail with the trailer and still have a ton of room front and back. Each site has a nice picnic table and small cement square with an eye hook where you can do your grilling and leash your dog. There are lots trees on the property, so I would imagine it's quite nice in high season. Right now there are many nests with birds sitting on eggs, and even a couple of hanging nests (weaver birds, maybe?) though there are no leaves on the trees yet. The 30amp service works well, we've had no issues. Water pressure is really good and the water smells nice and clean. Not all parks can say that!! Sewer hook up works as it should. No complaints. The laundry room is clean. Four top-loading washers, $2/load, that filled with lightning speed. Four dryers, load starts at $.25 and time is added with each quarter. One dryer is currently out of order. Quarters can be purchased in the office. The shower rooms (the women's, anyway, never saw the men's) are clean and tidy. Three stalls, three showers. Great water pressure in the showers, and the water seems soft. There's plenty of room to move, and two shelf spaces for your soap and shampoo. Each shower has at least 5 hooks, and each has a little bench to set your stuff on. An access code is required for the laundry, showers and park gate (after 9pm). There is no cable but that is not an issue for us. The Wi-Fi is the best we've seen yet, for strength and speed. Currently there are about 10 long term trailers, and 6 of us weekly/daily trailers. Whether that has any bearing on the Wi-FI, I don't know, but what is usually a big fat headache hasn't once been a problem here. We met Mr Owner the day we arrived. Very nice guy. Haven't seen him since because he's been busy, busy, busy. The park is being expanded, so there's a lot of heavy equipment and such near the back of the park (close enough that we can watch the side-dump trucks haul away ton after ton of dirt from the expansion area). It hasn't been bothersome, oddly. They start at a decent hour and finish by 5:00pm. I guess the highest praise anyone can give a park is to say they'd be happy to come back. We would!! read more

My guess is this park has been sold. Manager type left in charge not the owners, and within 30 feet of our motorhome 3 heavy earth movers started up at 8 am. Good job we were already leaving if not I'd have been in the office asking for a refund! If you want to stay on a construction site in a camp with probably 50% full timers, and felled trees piled everywhere while they bulldoze more spaces, then I guess you won't mind paying $50 or more for a night/space. My advice drive through town and go further.. All the facilities are old, at one time this was probably a nice park. Not now! read more

The people in the office were very nice. We had not made a reservation and they found a back in space for us. The spot was right by the road and very noisy. It was probably far away from the Wi-Fi, too, because we couldn't use it. The place is in need of TLC. There are cigarette butts on the ground. There is trash on the ground, the weeds haven't been weed whacked as they should. It cost us $48 a night to stay here and I can't tell you one reason why you should come here., except the reviews for the KOA dismal. read more

A great stop on our trip back to Dallas from South Dakota. Just what we needed after a day of pulling our 40 ft 5th wheel. Easy to get to. Friendly, helpful staff, easy pull through access and hookups. We travel with two Labradors and this place was very pet friendly. I will keep this place in our list of stops if we travel this route again. read more

Gunsmoke RV Park lives up to its Good Sam ratings. I give it four stars only because I think it is overpriced(but then I think all RV parks over $30.00 are overpriced) Nice clean facilities, friendly staff and everything you would want in a RV Park. Close to many great restaurants, casino and museums. Great for an overnight stop but I would recommend staying a few days and seeing all that Dodge City has to offer. Cheers read more

Viki and her husband were very welcoming. park is nostalgic of the old wild west. sites were large, groomed and clean. sites also had grass & trees. park had full immunities, clean pool & park for the kiddos. park was on the outskirts of town, but only a short drive to historical monuments and attractions. highly recommended for those passing through, or staying longer. WARNING!!! TERRIBLY RUDE OWNER'S RUNNING A 70's OUTDATED CAMPGROUND!!! Before I do my review here, I want to point out that we own a small Toy Poodle and are very conscience of our dogs bio footprint in the environment and always pick up after he uses the bathroom. So here is our experience that really upset our family and my in-laws. I was walking my dog to the grass area and noticed my dog was wanting to go to the bathroom on the gravel. I pulled my dog quickly over to the grass area and picked up his waste to throw away. Little did I realize my dog had dropped a piece of poop before getting to the grass, I didn't see it but the owner said he watched us and saw my dog poop in the gravel without me picking it up. I returned to my camper and 15 min later I receive a knock at my door and the owner tells me that I left my dogs poop and here it is. He slammed his shovel against the gravel on the ground, dropping a ping ball size poop on my front steps. I felt really bad that I didn't see it and apologized but as soon as I did the owner tells me this is my first and only warning, if it happens again then we'll be gone! We apologized a second time and the owner just stared at us angrily and walked away without acknowledging the apology or saying anything further. Me, my wife, my son and my mother and father in-law were jaw dropping shocked. We had stayed here once or twice before, made this our campground of choice in Dodge City when ever we visit and we've never had any issues. We pay good money to stay in their campground so a little bit of couth goes a long way in customer service. I was mortified that anyone who owns a campground would talk to someone and threaten to kick them out because of an honest and rather minor mistake. All he had to do was stop by and tell me he saw my dog poop in the road and to please double check your dog while walking him. What further put salt in the womb is when me and my wife went to the front desk to sign in from the night before and we confronted the owner that we didn't know that our dog had pooped on the lot and again apologized. We then told him that all he had to do was be nice about it and he responded, "I was nice about it". We argued politely for a minute that he was not nice and there's no reason to talk to us like we're little children. We finally gave up rationalizing with him and left. All over town and in front of their campground it's advertised that their campground is for sale so maybe he's having a very bad morning or there's some added stress because their campground is for sale or maybe it's the "I don't care" attitude now but one thing is for sure, my family and my in-laws will never make this our weekend home for our mini vacations anymore. My advise is go to the brand new KOA campground right up the street where they don't treat the customers like this, who actually care how they treat their customers. Plus it's a heck of a lot nicer with concrete pads, new and very nice facilities. GunSmoke campground is very noisy because of the highway it sits right up against with very crowded campsites on the front half of the campground. They show pictures on the internet of the rear newer addition but not the crowed older section. Vickie, even though your response is ridiculous to our review, you just inadvertently made our case and point. read more

Great place to stay in Dodge City. New owners July 2017. They were extremely helpful and friendly. Affordable and clean, can't ask much more in a camp! Pool was deep, cold, and very enjoyable. Very close to tourist attractions, easy in and out. Nice slots for RVs. We would stay here again when in Kansas. read more

Pretty quaint, low-key, and homey; this place is great to kick back and relax. It is just down the road from a bunch of great eateries and shopping. The facilities are well maintained and the bathrooms are clean. If I had to say a negative thing, it would be the noisy trains that occasionally run through right across the street (nothing they can do about it). I'd recommend this place though I used the tent area, not RV. It was secluded and fenced so that no vehicles could back into sleeping campers. read more

Really nice campground with friendly, helpful owners. Located on the west edge of town so a nice country feel. We were on the FHU sites toward the back of the park. All of the utilities worked very well and Verizon and ATT service were excellent. Very convenient location to all the sites you might want to see. Some noise from a highway and train track to the south but we didn't find it bothersome. Nice spacing between sites too! We would stay here again. read more

I read your response to my dads review and since I walked my dog outside to go the bathroom 75% of the time, and I picked up all of the poop clearly tells you that we pick up poop and we are good owners and I saw my dad walking the dog and he was trying to get him to the grass to poop and then pick it up. And my dog didn't want to come to the grass so my dad was trying to get him there and he pooped a small pebble while he was going to the grass and my dad didn't see it. Shortly after you came to the door of the RV and we opened the door and you were very mad. And then you dropped the poop at our doorstep and told us that was our first and only warning or we were going to get kicked out. I think that was very childish because you could've just told us you saw our dog poop and ask if we could pick it up. Even at age 15 I know that this isn't how you treat people and response was just full of lies and I was there to see the whole thing. read more

Nice campground with locked gate after 9pm. Really felt safe and secure. Owners were very nice and helpful. Only had limited spaces available, but helped us get 2 rigs into some tight spaces. Well maintained with a playground for kids and a place to walk our 3 doxies. read more

We was leaving Alabaster Caverns State Park in the pan handle of Oklahoma on a Sunday. Our electoral cord went bad. We was planning on stopping next to this campground however without electric power we would have to cancel our trip and head back hone. However we called them just to see if they would by chance have a 30 amp electric cord. They did. We couldn't believe it. They saved our trip. We booked one night, if we had more time we would definitely stay longer. They just opened the pool and in 100 degree weather it felt really good. A very nice couple. We will recommend this park to all rv'ers! read more

They said they were new owners but they did not have pool open, didnt have hot water or laundry yet someone said a week ago they told them same thing. No cable. Had migrant workers living their full time in a 18 wheeler trailer that didnt make me or our neighbors feel safe. The workers also played loud music well past 10 pm. When we told the new owners they told us they didn't hear the loud music instead of just saying sorry andwe will look into it. They argued with us about it how rude. Also the town had nothing to do so we left day early. read more

As full time RVers, we have stayed in many parks in many different states. Never have we been so insulted upon arrival to a campground. After traveling 11+ plus hours, we pulled into a rather nice looking facility, with many open spots for a one night stay. We were immediately approached by a rude troll on a four wheeler and "shooed" away. Confused, we left, and called the office to ask exactly what the problem was and were told "never to come back" and were hung up on... Our business was accepted and we were treated amicably elsewhere. Worst experience ever.. :( read more
