Stopped by for breakfast had their bacon and egg with potatoes and beans and it was very basic. Bacon was not crispy at all which was a bummer. Overall, I wouldn't recommend this place, but just for the coconut shrimp I would. The ambiance is fun, but the service was incredibly slow and most of the the food wasn't anything special. However, if you are a coconut shrimp type of person, these shouldn't be missed. read more

However, I go here for breakfast as they have my favorite breakfast I think about all year before I come to Mazatlan in December. The prawn omelette It's called Camarones Omelette which in the U.S. when you think of a shrimp omelette you think of those tiny bay shrimp that are always frozen and never super fresh. I never get that in the U.S. Huge prawns are a plenty inside and on top of your omelette with cheese, egg, and a cream sauce that is fantastic. Not too thick but not watery. Served with hot tortillas, refritos (smooth as silk), hash browns and roasted jalapeños on the side (take little bites as they are hot but flavorful). This is my favorite breakfast in all of Mazatlan as you can get the usual breakfast foods anywhere. I like unique. The service here is fantastic. Coffee always hot, always filled, and you are always being checked on. The same staff have been here the past 8 years we have eaten here but they have probably been here at keadt 15-20 years if my guess is right. I think the omelette was even better this year for some reason. Maybe more prawns. Yes I love prawns! Others had the Chillaquillas with chicken and the Eggs Montulena which is eggs, tortilla, beans, cheese and fried plantain with a red sauce. They all loved their dishes. TIP: They do make a mean fajita dish I have gotten in the evening last year so if you like carne asada fajitas with your 80's rock music at night, this is a great place for some evening food and entertainment. Gus gus is located across from some major hotels so staff and polite and some speak a bit of English while others speak a lot and they have a few tv's to watch some sports. That's where any good stops for this place. This place is a dive bar where 50+ sun burnt retirees come to drink and dance to a bad knock off cover band. If you are under 40 you will be the only one. The food is half assed and very Americanized and they tried to give us flour tortillas and a small pathetic excuse for guac. The margaritas are weak as snot and they must not use filtered water as 3 hours later my bf and I spent the night and the next day taking turns with diarrhea and I was so lucky to get projectile vomiting also. I can't stress staying away from this place enough. The risk of getting sick is too high and there are places with much better food around. read more

Came here cause of convenience. I was staying close to this place. So I decided to come and check it out. You know have a couple of drinks while wife was getting ready at the resort. I enjoyed a late breakfast/early lunch here with my family about 3 days ago. The food was good and cheap, and the service was great. Our main waiter spoke to us in a mix of Spanish and English, translating himself for us monolingual gringos. I think he would really make a great Spanish teacher! (For the record, my sister has taken 5 years of Spanish, and I haven't taken any, yet I was still the only one ordering en Español.) I got the huevos Motuleños, a traditional Yucatán breakfast that consists of fried eggs on top of tortillas, with cheese, ham, and bacon. Delicious. My mom and sister both got chorizo omelettes, which they enjoyed quite a bit, and my dad got chilaquiles verde con pollo, which was muy delicioso. All of the breakfast dishes came with refried beans (which were awesome) and hashbrowns (which were meh). My other sister ordered the Gus-Gus shrimp, which was a plate of 6 very fat and juicy shrimp stuffed with cheese and wrapped in bacon, served with a salsa con queso (amazing, recommend!). They offered a selection of fresh juices, tea, coffee, beers and soft drinks. We ate outside under an umbrella at a table with a brightly colored table cloth, while classic rock played on the radio. (This inspired another staff member to rock out on air guitar.) Just visited Mazatlan for a week and visited Gus & Gus about 4 times during that week, 3 dinners & 1 breakfast. I was on a mission trip so we didn't have time to venture out too much and this place was right across the the street from our hotel. Waiters are very nice and the food is great! I recommend the beef fajitas. I'm giving them a 4 instead of a 5 because the bacon they served at breakfast was the worst tasting bacon I've ever had in my life and they always seemed slightly annoyed when our group would want to separate our checks but I feel like that might be a cultural thing as we noticed it at other restaurants as well. The food is regular Mexican American with tourist friendly favorites . They do a decent job of it as well. The waiters speak English. Well, the majority do . And the service is good. They had live music the night we were there and people were dancing. It was a Thursday. I generally get into more detail in regard to food and service but I'm not going to on this review. Why ? Well Gus Gus is a restaurant that seems to have an arrangement with vendors in the area. I'm not sure how this arrangement works. Most restaurants in Mazatlán do not allow this. I know , Ive been here for 4 months and this is my 12 trip. During our meal there was a constant line of balloon twisters, guitarists, children selling candy, roses ect. And these are not items casually displayed outside the restaurant or in an assigned area. No, they are brought to your table mid meal, mid bite. I understand we all need to make a living. I support the poor in my area by keeping a bag of change in my car and pack at all times. I like to help. But this is the wrong environment. And until Gus Gus finds another way to support the vendors I wont return. I wonder if the vendors are charged for access. I know we stopped going to the Fat Fish for the same reasons but its certainly not the norm in Mazatlán restaurants Very Disappointing . read more

I loved this place! We came here every night on our trip! We actually became friends with the waiters and bartenders! It was such a fun environment! One of my favorite nights was when we went and ran into the guitar player from our hotel and a few of his friends and also the guy who took us on a tour plus an off the clock bartender and we all got a table together and had such a blast! And every night when we came for a drink the waiters and bartenders would welcome us with loud "HEEEEEYYYY! YOURE BACK!" With so much enthusiasm!
