I went in to take a look and ended up buying a salted caramel brownie ($3.25) and a pink cookie with white chocolate chips ($3.65). When you buy anything pink in the shop, 20% of the sales go to Breast Cancer Research (not sure if this is just for the month of October (Breast Cancer Awareness month) or for always). The salted caramel brownie was phenomenal! So rich and buttery and filled with gooey salted caramel and chocolate chips. The cookie was good too, nice and chewy with lots of white chocolate chips, but the salted caramel brownie stole the show, for sure! Everything is baked by them, it is not one of those shops that buys stuff from Costco and resells them, lol, like some other shops in medical buildings. I was served by Esther herself, who is beyond lovely. She told me they recently opened 5 months ago and she's really trying to get the cafe more exposure through social media. She noticed my purse and told me she has the exact same one and brought hers out to show me. Immediately I knew this woman has good taste, lol. The cafe is super cute with a few seats to eat in. It's not too visible from the street, so just look for the medical/office building next to the Westgate Shopping Centre. There's free parking along the front of the building. The parking lot is actually quite large, but many spots are reserved for permit holders, so just look out for the signage. Esther's Cakes N Sweets is a gem. I'm looking forward to trying out other items.

The Long Version: So I had no idea that this bakery/cafe existed until I went to pick up food at Portugalos next door. It was actually closed at the time, but I made a mental note to come back. My mom loves baked goods so I decided to take her here. We ended up getting a box of goodies to take home. We got a pistachio croissant ($4.50), a Chantilly Cream croissant ($4.50), a white chocolate and milk chocolate donut ($4.50), 2 pistachio cannoli ($4.50 each) and 3 shell baklava ($1.75 each). The pistachio croissant was good. The filling was grounded pistachios. There could have been a bit more filling, IMO, but overall it was tasty. The Chantilly Cream croissant was dry and tasted stale to me. The cream that was exposed to air had that thick skin suggestive of an item that was sitting around for awhile :( The cream that was actually inside the croissant tasted better, but overall I was disappointed with this item. I didn't have any of the donut because my 2 little nieces shared it. They loved the donut. The cannoli was filled with whipped cream. I was so disappointed because I was expecting a ricotta cheese cream. At least the shell was crunchy and not soft. The shell-shaped baklava were ok, they weren't too sweet which I appreciated. The man serving us was pleasant and very patient with us as we asked what flavours the items were because nothing was labelled. Prices were not indicated next to the items either. The place is very cute with a bit of seating. I don't think there's anything else like it in Blackburn Hamlet. Would be a nice place for a date or to catch up with a friend. It's in a plaza with free parking. Review #81 (2025)

A phenomenal cafe/bakery dinning experience…read more The food at this location was very good and it was very high quality because it was freshly made and prepared. The service at this location was quick and easy because the staff served me and my family very quickly and the staff were very friendly, nice, and professional as well. The ambiance at this location was very cozy and nice because it was a very small and quiet location to peacefully enjoy a warm drink and a tasty homemade pastry treat. The location was very clean and there were no messes on the floor and the tables were very clean and spotless. The freshly made items here were cheaper than the pre-made items at Tim Hortons. The commute to this location is convenient because it is easy for Blackburn residents to walk to this location. The walk is only about 5 to 10 minutes to get to this location depending on where you live in Blackburn Hamlet which is very convenient for Blackburn residents to commute to this location. This location is very easy to access because there are multiple entrances to get into the parking lot and there is also a ton of parking spots to choose from and there is also free parking which is bonus too and this is very convenient for the people who prefer to drive to this location, but if you live close by to this location, I'd highly recommend you walk because it is only a 5 to 10 minute walk to get to this location if you live close by. For the reasons I have stated in this review, I highly recommend you visit this location because the service is phenomenal and the staff here are superb and the ambiance here is amazing and the food quality is excellent and the price is very reasonable and is cheaper than the price of pre-made items at the Tim Hortons across the street.

I had the mango-passion fruit dessert and the flavours were delicious not overly sweet and very natural. I find it hard to come across desserts with true, authentic fruit flavours, so I was very happy to find this spot. The fruit dessert was around $12-13. They also have a great selection of pastries and desserts. Something I wish they had was free water. I didn't think of asking, but since they only had bottled Evian for purchase, it can add a bit to the bill. Not sure if they offer free water, but that's just me hahaha. Overall, it's not a place I'd visit daily since it's far for me, but it's definitely somewhere I'll bring someone who's visiting Ottawa. It's a nice, unique spot for something sweet.

As most of the space is dedicated to the baking and display space which opens up to the seating area. I wasn't surprised to see the fruit looking desserts as they are the rage nowadays (thank Cedric Grolet for providing inspiration). I tried the pear version and a tarte tatin. Tarte Tatin is OK but I am happy you that its at least being offered here in Ottawa. I enjoyed the pear dessert. Very pretty to look at with subtle taste though (if you are expecting a flavor punch this isn't it) light to finish as well. I will be tempted to try other fruit interpretations next visit. The croissants looked as well. I took a few goodies for the trip home. Next trip I will be sure to revisit.

Excited to see that increasingly ubiquitous consumer interest in Pistachio (and you can quote me "Pistachio is the New Hazelnut") with Dubai Chocolate has extended beyond what I've seen in New York and elsewhere to this small town, decided to Once entering this bright sweet treat café, the selection of Pistachio items included baked items, like Croissants, giant Ice Cream Sandwiches with Pistachio Ice Cream in giant Pistachio Macarons, and the beautiful L'Evanescence with (wow!) pistachio mouse and cookie along with raspberry cream! With my family's Sunday dinner reservation about 1 1/2 hours away, decided to keep it to a cold drink and ordering a Oat "Latte à la Pistache." The surprise ended up being that the person behind the counter, also master creator of all these totally exquisite delights, was award winning (and absolutely friendly) Pâtissière Sabrina Sigouin!! (That's Master Cake Designer for all us English speakers!) Since it's Sabrina's shop, it should be no surprise that La Belle Pâtissière is super on-trend featuring Pistachio! Should add, my Pistachio Oat Latte was amazing! (Thank you, Sabrina!) Only wish I had more time in Montebello to test out one of those giant Pistachio Ice Cream Sandwiches!!! Will have to save it to next time! That being said, if you're in Montebello, definitely recommend stopping by the sensational La Belle Pâtissière!!!

The Long Version: This small grocery store in Orleans markets itself as a Pakistani, Indian and Mediterranean market. It just opened up in August 2025 where Istanbul Food Mart used to be on Des Epinettes. I didn't even know the Istanbul Food Mart closed, but my brother who lives in the area told me about it. And when I drove by I saw a sign with a picture of samosas and knew I had to check it out, lol. My mom loves samosas, so when I came to visit her (she also lives near the store) I asked her if she wanted to check out the store together, and of course she was game. They did indeed have samosas. The big regular type and the smaller ones made with phyllo pastry. The big ones were vegetarian and $1.50 each. The smaller ones were chicken and $0.75 each. We got a big one and 3 small ones. They also had Indian sweets such as Barfi, Ladoo, Jelebi, Gulab Jamun and Rasgulla, sold by the weight. I don't know all the names but we ended up getting 4 different types to try. You can see my photo. The store has lots of spices, sauces and mixes. As well as imported drinks and snacks (my favourite, lol). The store is neatly organized. There's also an area at the front with tables and chairs where you can sit to enjoy some food or drink. We had the chance to speak with Ali himself and he was very friendly and welcoming. He told us his plans to expand their menu. They will be selling shawarma. He's also thinking of items like samosa chaat. And maybe some fusion poutine like curry poutine, and likely regular poutine too, lol. I think if they expanded their menu, their eat-in area would be a great place to have a snack or meal. It's by the front, which is all windows, so feels like you're in a solarium. The space is very lovely, and surprisingly so since it's inside a grocery store, lol. I liked how Ali was very genuine. When my mom asked if they will be selling big meat samosas, he said she's the third person to ask him that, so they will likely do so in the future. When I asked him if they will be selling baked samosas, he said I'm the only person who's ever asked that and he thinks baked samosas will likely not sell. Lol. I appreciate honesty! And I get it, you need to sell what people will buy ;) (As an aside, my mom said to me, "Jennifer, people want to eat deep-fried delicious things, not baked healthy alternatives like you do!") Fair! Haha. Ali also told us when his sign at the corner advertising samosas was handwritten no one came in looking for samosas but after he got a sign with a picture of samosas on it people started coming in asking for samosas, lol. The samosas were delicious. The big vegetarian one was filled with potatoes, peas and spices. It was spicy! Spicier than most samosas I've had and I loved it. The flavour was also unique. It was more complex and interesting than other samosas I've had. The small samosas were also good, but pale in comparison to the big one in flavour. My parents enjoyed the Indian sweets. They were too sweet for my tastes, but I already knew this because most desserts are too sweet for my liking, lol. The one with a carrot halwa base was the least sweet and the most enjoyable to me. Anyway, I'm really excited to see how this store evolves. I'll be stopping by again with my mom to try their new items. It's in a little plaza so there's free parking in the shared parking lot with other businesses in the plaza. Review #157 (2025)
