There was a large gallery that had a huge range of works by students and faculty of UVM. The Museum is small and very doable in an hour. It is also free. You don't have to be a member of the University to get in. It is good to note that the museum follows the academic calendar - September through May and is open Tuesday - Saturday. The Fleming Museum won't take that long to get around, but you still can see a lot. Hours are crappy because it's closed when school is closed. You should come here if interested in local artists and history. Be sure to know when school is in session, because if it's not the museum will be closed. It's free. This is among the few such museums. A lot of local art. Lots of things to check out in a small space. Amazing how much is packed in. This still won't take long to get through. Among the most notable objects is the sphere object on the cover of the Phish album Round Room. This is located just inside the main entrance, so be sure to see that. Also there's some ancient stuff like the Egyptian artifacts. The paintings collection has a few notable ones among these. For sure the best thing about it is that it's free. It's been free for awhile, but unfortunately it's only open when the college is also open. There's lots to check out if interested in local artists, and Vermont.

The admission was free and that was also very good. They also had some good items in the shop area at the front. The exhibit descriptions are very accurate. My favourite exhibit at this museum was the Revolutionary War exhibit because they had it well worded and they had some cool military ships. The museum was reasonably cleaned. For the reasons I have stated in this review, I highly encourage you to visit this location.

We spend our leisure hours attending plays and musicals because, inevitably, we'll know someone in the cast or crew. I think a lot of us didn't quite realize just how much we enjoyed going to the theatre or just how important watching another world unfold on stage was to us until COVID took it all away. It felt so right and a little strange being back in the audience after such a long period of isolation, but I am beyond impressed with the Valley Players. Not only was this show 18-ish months in the making, but they weathered the storm so well. Everyone--cast, crew, production, proprietors--were so excited to welcome us back to the theatre. Their space was small which helped to limit capacity and I believe that they had deliberately taken out chairs in order to help limit the number of folks on a given night. There were just enough people there to react to the play but it didn't feel like an overwhelming crowd. I truly commend the Valley Players on this aspect. Ticket prices are very reasonable and I would never think twice about paying $12 for a ticket (that was adult general admission). You can purchase tickets online but I think, but don't quote me on this, that you can call and reserve tickets, too. Super easy to find parking on a Friday night in the village and the theatre is well marked. It was very easy to find seating and there's truly no bad seat in the house. They had a concessions stand but I didn't scope that out. If any of you, like me, want to get back into the audience but are worried about being overwhelmed by large crowds, I highly recommend checking out any of the shows that the Valley Players are putting on this year. I found the audience to be the perfect size and the perfect re-introduction into the world of theatre!!

The Madisonian Museum of Industrial Design was founded in 2011 by architect David Sellers. It Is…read morelocated in an old barn/farmhouse that has been converted into a museum. Museum is open Friday, Saturday, 12-5 and Sunday 12-4. Or by appointment. This is the only museum in the country whose installation is 100% completely dedicated to industrial design...meaning mass produced. Most items in this collection were produced in the U.S.A. Between WWI - the 1960's. Pieces include designs by: Frank Lloyd Wright, Frank Gehry, Frank Lloyd Wright, Ludwig Mies Van dr Rohe, Aaivar Alto, Norman Bel Geddes, just to name a few. some of the Highlights in the collection: sleds, musical instruments, chairs, vintage toys, bicycles, radios, "vintage" trains. The list goes on and on. It is located very close to Waitsfield's covered bridge. So after a museum tour drive or walk over and check out the historic covered bridge.

The cheesecake dipped strawberries from Morse Block Deli and Taps was innovative and delicious. Their other offerings, such as Schwarma bites, rare beef and smoke turkey deli meat were tasty, too. E.B. Strong's medium rare tenderloin bites with crostini were equally delicious. Pizzeria Veritá's traditional brick oven Margherita Pizza was spot on, oozing with fresh mozzarella and a perfect tomato sauce. Blue North Seafood's Starbird Salmon Tartare on an Everything Bagel Crostini with Cured Egg Yolk and Mottra Caviar was phenomenal. I loved the myriad of savory flavors on the palate. Hatchet's Twelve-Hour Smoked Boyden Farm Brisket with Pickleback Slaw was also very good. Our House's Famous Award-winning Clam Chowder topped with deep fried clam belly was delicious. Honey Road's Sweet Harissa Chicken Wings were to die for. La Planque had an inventive Gravlox with caviar, seaweed yogurt. It's a place I'd definitely eat at in QC. Sisters of Anarchy's ice creams were inventive flavors. I tried the Dirty Anne (yellow Anne raspberries with a light chocolate base) and Chocolate Anarchy (dark chocolate). Both were pretty good, but not as rich as I would have expected in terms of flavors. It may have been because the portion was just a taster spoon size, so I would like to give them a try at their actual establishment. In terms of ice cream richness, I really enjoyed the scoops from Lulu's: Dark Horse (chocolate ice cream spiked with Chambord liqueur and cake chunks) and Midsummer Night's Dream (vanilla bean ice cream with bourbon soaked cherries and chocolate chunks). While there were a handful of exhibitors with excellent bites, most of the food was of the cheese/sausage sort routinely found. The wine pours were also so skimpy ( well below the typical tasting pour) that it was hard to even taste. You could hit all the wine booths and probably have a half a glass total. Some of the wines can easily be found at Trader Joe's. My wine glass was yucky from finger food and a worker told me I had to clean it in the water fountain rather than give me a new one. Although the venue didn't seem full, lines backed up with people talking to the vendors so there was a lot of waiting. There were a few cocktail tables set up but not much seating. Overall I would say if you're a couple $200 could buy a really lovely dinner out... which is what you'll wish you did instead.

There are probably at least six shows (street performers-buskers) going on each hour, with different types of acts (magicians, break dancing, circus/jugglers, musicians, etc. All worthy of a $10-$20 tip. The performances last 30-40 minutes each. I think the festival lasts three days, but this year I was there for Sunday. Excellent performers from around the world (one guy I was was from Australia). Between the acts you have all of what Church Street has to offer: all different types of boutique shops and dining. Something for everyone in the family. The shows are also kid friendly. If you're visiting the area during a Festival of Fools weekend, you don't want to miss it. And locals will enjoy it as well, since most of the performers are from out of the area. I will continue to attend as long as Burlington continues to have the festival.

For three days, Church Street and area become animated as street artists, circus performers,…read moremagicians, musicians and comedians take turns in entertaining the public. Now, these are not the usual folks who share their talent in the Marketplace during regular days. These buskers come from all over the world to join in Burlington's Festival of Fools. As far as I know, this is the Festival's second year, held second weekend of August. And it is organized by the Burlington City Arts. Schedule of performances are written on a board outside the Firehouse Center for the Visual Arts, at the end of Church Street. Volunteers, I presume, hand out more info about the festival and encourage everyone to cast in their votes for their favorite performer. The festival culminates with the awarding of the King/Queen of Fools. Our family favorite was Brent McCoy, a local of Vermont. We agreed that he had the most carefully thought-out gig. His ad libs were right on and they didn't sound too desperate. Even when he asked for tips toward the end of his performance, the man had a speech of a confident orator. And yes, he was really, really good with his tricks, too! I think he has a video on youtube.com. Anyway, the other performers were equally entertaining. There's the usual fire-eating trick, women in trapeze, unicycling, music with ordinary things, hula-hooping and the like. Then there's also the unusual scorpion-in-pants while catching a bowling ball with steak knives on fire using the head kind of stunt. Truly lots of clowning around going on here!

The movie theater played nonstop cartoons so you could go and watch and warm up. The flynn theater holds productions all night. We saw the Taiko drummers. They are so fun to watch and encourage your verbal support during the performance. There is a 1st night badge you purchase before hand which gets you into all the events for the night. To top off the evening we went down to the waterfront and watched the fireworks bring in the new year. It was nice snuggling my sweetie in the car while the bright colors burst above our heads!
