I visited Olympic Sports Complex with the wedding party I was in. We expected there to be more of a tour and history of the stadium but there wasn't much guidance. The grounds are beautiful and well kept and the staff are very nice. My fiancé and I did the mountain coaster which was a lot of fun but at a high cost ($55 per person). Overall, it's a fun place to go for the Mountain Coaster but we were left with wanting more out of our visit (without the high cost). read more

Loved the Cliffside coaster. So much fun! Food was solid and pretty good. Was disappointed in the bobsled run. Wanted it to be more especially for the price. Basically you only see the back of someone's head. And you can't see your time or have your family really see you. read more

I was too cheap to pay $75 a head to actually ride in a bobsled. But it was a pretty cool place to stop in and visit. We had seen the course off on a distant mountain while on the ski jump hill and decided to stop by. Just visiting the viewing platform and visitor center is free. You see very little of the track from the parking lot or viewing platform. But it's pretty cool watching the bobsleds come whizzing by the finish line. There is also an area showing different period bobsleds. And there are the medal award platforms. read more

Yes, it is possible to experience a bobsled ride in the summer, and yes, it's worth every penny! We saved 20% on the price of our ride, because we bought the Olympic Sites Passport. The summer rides start from the 1/2 mile start on the bobsled track from the '32 and '80 Olympics. We rode down in a bobsled on wheels, and we had a blast!! We made it to the finish in about 45 seconds. Don't worry - they provide you with a heavy duty helmet and they strap you in. Would do this again in a heartbeat! read more

You can watch athletes train. Watching them swiftly glide past you in a cool experience. Especially if you've never seen this before. There are areas to walk along the course and view athletes coming down. Lots of walking and is uneven ground so wear your hiking shoes or sneakers. Dress warm as you're outside for all of it. Lastly, you can purchase your own ride in the bobsled. Someone goes with you that steers the sled. You can go with a 2nd person but note that each person costs $95. This review is a downer due to COVID. Maybe in non-COVID times, this could be 4-5 stars, but I really couldn't find ANY accurate or useful info about what's going on now, during the pandemic, so here goes. Very little signage or direction. You drive down the entrance road and wind up just running out of options... the road ends and you have to turn left. You park, and then you just have to figure it out. Not a sign about anything. We saw cross-country skiing activity going on -- a handful if skiers out on the course. We went into the new, spacey, nice building and it was mostly deserted; we could not tell where to go or what, if anything, there was to do. We just looked around. Not one sign or word about Bobsledding or the Bobsled track anywhere. The few signs we did see were about a Cliff Coaster, but we had no idea what that was. We asked two women who were working there and they were very helpful. Here's the pandemic poop: Bobsled -- Facility closed to visitors because athletes in training are in the bubble. No bobsled adventure because you need a driver and brakeman and they can't be in a little sled with you thanks to Covid, so that is out. No bobsled viewing, visiting or rides. Cliff Coaster -- A new ride that sounds fun -- they drag you up to the top and then release you down the tracks. But they haven't yet figured out how to run it safely (slick tracks, etc), so it has rarely been open. Sounds like fun, but you have to ask somebody about it; you'd never figure it out on your own. X-Country Skiiing -- We are not skiers, but the people that WERE there were skiing. So I assume it's decent here. Other than that, there is nothing. The place was essentially dead on a beautiful sunny, snow-capped Friday afternoon. read more

Be sure to call in advance if you're looking for the cliffside coaster. Apparently it has been unreliable and had an unannounced outage over the entire Easter week and weekend. They were unable to keep it operating and staff were rather squirrelly about the reasons for the sudden shutdown. read more

You can spend hours here!! It was a little bit outside of Lake Placid, but enjoy the scenic views on the way down. The gift shop has a lot of great things and outside you can take pictures with Bob Sleds and enjoy other neat attractions. My uncle and I climbed to the top of the Bob Sled hill, we created our own route and enjoy the journey looking inside the track and exploring. YOU HAVE TO GO RIGHT TO THE TOP!!! The also offer a tour which costs money and probably limits the creativity you can add by going up by yourself. A great attraction!!!! read more

This was the last stop on our recent trip to Lake Placid before heading home. We missed the summer season where we could go for a run, so we just wandered around the area to look at the track. We waited half an hour for the van to take us to the top, but had to leave before it showed up. Maybe next time. Definitely pick up an Olympic Passport if you plan on visiting all the various paid sites. read more

Where else can you ride part of an actual Olympic Bobsled run? Sure it's a bit pricey, but damn it's fun! Of course Lake Placid is teaming with Olympic history and this is a big part of it. Once you purchase tickets you wait until you are called and a vehicle will take you up the mountain to the staging area. You are fitted with a helmet and then wait your turn to take an actual bobsled run. The entire ride lasts about 40 seconds, but is definitely worth it in my opinion. It's open winter and summer, so it can be enjoyed year round. There is not a lot more to explore at this facility, but if you enjoy a bit of a thrill, it's worth stopping in. read more

We walked around inside the location and inside the bob sled. It was pretty cool and great way to learn. We bought the passport this was included and we got to see various things around Lake Placid. The passport is a great buy you get to do lots of awesome things for $35. A must do if you are in the area. read more

As the black suburban shuttled us up Mt Hoevenberg, for our date with destiny, the car stereo played Yellow Ledbetter, which I thought was appropriate as I had always wanted my last song to be Pearl Jam. "We can switch it to Johnny Cash if you'd like," said the wise ass driver, who dropped our small group at the start of the skeleton course. You know, skeleton. It's that Olympic sport that's like luge, only you ride head first on the sled. La Cheeka and i were joined by three others (Canadians, naturally) who were as crazy as us. For the price of $40, we'd get to try skeleton on the same course used by Olympians. (We got a 20% discount because we had tried bobsled earlier in the day.) After a brief (and I mean brief) training from the coach of the US Developmental team, we donned helmets and prepared for our runs. An EMT was on hand in case of an emergency, and in a classic example of Lake Placid's quaintness, she also doubled as the attraction's official photographer. Here's how you do the skeleton: Shoulder on the sled. Legs down. Hands by your side. And keep your head up, just ever so slightly, so you can see what's ahead. A push from the coach, and I was off on the 1/3 mile course. After a brief straight away, I hit my first left-handed turn. That was quickly followed by a right turn, then a left turn, then another right turn. By the time I hit the 7th turn, I was traveling 35 mph. Clocking in at 29.9 seconds for the course, I waited by the finish line for La Cheeka, who came screaming down the track a minute later, wailing with glee. "Wanna do it again," I asked. No, she said, some things are better left alone. This was a thrill of a lifetime. Back at the visitors center, we were given a photo, t-shirt and commemorative pin. Yep, it's a pretty good deal. There are a lot of can't miss attractions in Lake Placid, from the ice rink to the ski jump to Whiteface, but the Skeleton Experience is tops on my list. read more

WOW!!! What an experience! We went bobsledding down the original ice luge that the Olympic sledders used. This experience was over the top. I literally wanted to get back on and ride again. We hit speeds of up to 58 mph. It was sick! Definitely worth every penny you pay! The experience comes with souvenir pictures and tshirts! read more

It's pricey and lasts about 40-60 seconds but I don't regret it one bit. Contact them advance and make a reservation because time slots go very quickly. If you have a tight timetable to get in and out of Lake Placid, call well in advance because the more desirable morning slots go first (for everyone trying to ride a bobsled on their way out of town (like us)). Walk-in rides can't be guaranteed, and we saw multiple walk-in families turned away when we were signing our waivers. Riding the bobsled is a very well-oiled and efficient machine of a process. My only single solitary regret is that I didn't have time for a bobsled helmet selfie. It's a wild ride, incredibly fast, pulling 2Gs around the curves. We loved it. Worth almost every penny. A bit pricey even with the passport discount. Very fast and very fun and very short. If you can't get a reservation then I suggest you get to the complex at opening. We arrived at 8:30am a little before the rush and got a 2:00 slot. The kids loved it. Once in a lifetime experience. No one told me my helmet would hit the side of the bobsled on the way down. Hah can't not give it five starts. LP and Whistler are the two best run tracks in the world. LP gets the edge for its flawless use of shuffled and trucks for VIPs staff and coaches, and it's top notch coaches and official room at the top. Makes life much easier when it's frigid cold. We think this is where we went but it was 10pm and the moon wasn't out so who's to say. We felt incredibly welcomed, like we ourselves we Olympians #blessed. Our guess is that this would be a 5 Star establishment if we went during the day, but even at night when we closed our eyes we could taste gold. First off I would give this place 5 stars for the excitement of it all. You get to Bobsled, you know how many people get to do that in America? Not many.... Olympians, people training to be Olympians and tourists like myself and probably you if you are reading this. So why no 5 star ***** let me tell you why... We actually stopped in on Saturday to try and make a reservation, on our way in we see a sign that says (SOLD OUT FOR THE DAY) with that said, we were actually inquiring about sunday. The girl at the front counter with her resting moody miserable face states that all reservations are filled it's a first come first serve tomorrow and to be there at 9 if you want to have a chance at all to get on the course. Well that doesn't happen, because well, we drank a lot the night before and to be honest, I didn't want to vomit. So we stroll in around 11 am and while we are at the register, I notice this nice older man taping a letter to the window that reads in fact (SOLD OUT FOR THE DAY) I kindly ask him, does that apply to us? We are literally the only 2 people in line with the exception of a family paying for there already reserved fun. He replies "ask her" and the reply was one of (hey man, I just work here, shes the boss). Wonderful, now the same girl who wasn't very pleasant is in fact who I have to deal with again... So I kindly ask her when we step to the counter, is there room for 2 more? She says with an emphatic smile "Nope, it's sold out. Didn't I tell you to be here by 9 a.m.?" when I tell you that she enjoyed this power trip, It would be an understatement. I was trying to work my charm, ( I can be very charming ) she was having none of it. I was at this point, reaching deep into my web of lies to come up with... Bucketlist item, I may be dead in a month.. but before I could spin anything, that same gentlemen says, "hey what about that couple that had a reservation and didn't show up?" her response to him "what if they do?" his response "let's just let these guys go, who cares about them".... I looked at her, she looked at me and I'm telling you if looks could kill, I would be dead on the floor.. Okay that's $180 or whatever the price was.. I asked the older gentlemen for his name, he wouldn't give it up. I said, please tell me your name, I write a lot of reviews, the people need to know. 50,000 views every 3 months.... crickets... So um yeah, that's why you don't get 5 stars. Advice... sure thought you would never ask, you work at a tourist spot, you can think outside the box once in awhile, it isn't going to hurt to be nice either... fucking new Yorkers..... read more

This is great fun and a unique experience. Bobsled and Luge Experience are "must does". Yes, they're expensive, yes they're very short, but they are unique experiences and I believe the money helps support the facility and the teams. All of the people are great, from the ticket sales, to the shuttles to the start house, prep team and bobsled drivers....everybody is happy and supportive. The sleds are real, the helmets are real, the tracks are real, the set up is quite convenient and efficient. A nice lodge is available for friends and family to stay warm. There are observation areas to see the participants whisp by. The camera system follows the action in the lodge and an announcer does full play-by-play including mentioning the riders names directly. It's a five star experience. Because of the price / duration ratio, it can't be a five star value as a consumer. There are a few spots where the experience comes up short. The schedule is erratic and if you bundle two rides, they must occur on the same day. On one run, there was no photography as promised. There is a nice bit of swag for the riders, a tshirt, the picture, a pint glass, stickers, pins.....etc, to take with you for your experience. One terrible missing feature is that while each run is covered on video cameras and has an announcer voice over, they don't have the ability to drop that onto a DVD for you to take home or download from the internet. Easily worth $20-$50 as an added option, the hard part is already done, but the easy part doesn't exist. Sigh. read more

Bobsled experience. Do it!!!! This once in a lifetime ride was worth every dollar. We rode the half mile track in 46 seconds, going about 55 mph and pulling 2Gs. Fun, scary, crazy good. Be sure to tour the track after your ride do you can see what it looks like from outside the sled. read more

We have done both the Bobsled and Skeleton in the past few years. Very pricey but it truly is a once in a lifetime thing to do. If you do the Skeleton, make sure you are prepared for what seems to be faster speeds while you are very close to the track surface. A bit terrifying but fun at the same time. read more

4 Stars only because the girl in the front wasn't so friendly. (young girl) Cold attitude for working with the public! The way she greeted customers and spoke to them wasn't very welcoming. If you don't like they job, QUIT! The other lady was friendly though! (older lady) The bobsledding was so much fun I would do it again and I can't wait to do it in the winter. A little expensive for the amount of time actually on it but it was a blast! The only thing that I find ridiculous is that after paying the amount of money it cost, some grandparents and parents had to pay an ADDITIONAL $9.00 just to go upstairs with the kids while it was their turn. "watching fee" Watch what? A whole half second of the bobsled go by you? I know you are in it for the money but you get families paying those prices, I find it in bad taste to charge that fee. The mini museum upstairs was pathetic if that's what they want to charge you for and there was no air conditioner or it didn't work so it was miserable inside. It was cooler standing outside. The deck is big enough to hold "watchers" without any issues BTW! Very GREEDY! The guys running the vans and going down the bobsled with you were really nice. Maybe they should work with the people inside as well. We did get lucky to be able to ride it without a reservation but I would suggest making one. Some people got turned away a little after we got there. Would definitely do it again! read more
