Stopped here for a snack on our way up North a couple of weeks ago, and I'm very glad we did. This is a hidden gem. The restaurant is clean, and the employees were very friendly. Great beer selection. Why wife and I split the pub burger, and a cheese curd. One of the best burgers I've had in recent memory. The curds were great as well. The food came out hot and in a reasonable amount of time. I want to go back and try some more of the menu the next time I'm in the area. read more

Always a favorite spot! The cocktails are always very well made and creative. We also love the extensive beer menu. If you have never been to Stevens Point, this is a local must! The food menu is very Midwest pub, but they have some creative twists like the different flavored cheese curds. I also love their Mexican Street Corn dip and the blackened salmon BLT. The service is always friendly and prompt. Sometimes there is a wait, but they are often having staffing issues like many other places. Server was very nice and attentive. Entire staff was friendly. Unfortunately the food is just not good. Everything was pre-packaged. Burger clearly is a cereal blend patty. Breaded chicken sandwich was solution based with pre breading. She told me the Nashville seasoning was hot. Black pepper is hotter. Everything came out overcooked. Guu's is a staple in Stevens Point and I had to make a stop after it was recommended by several friends. It's a popular spot downtown so expect a wait during busy times. When I got there I quickly realized it was a seat yourself type place which cam be good or bad (I witnessed a couple come in and sit in a booth, after a while they just got up and left. No one ever approached them and I can only assume they got tired of waiting). Service for me was quick and friendly. I started with the Pineapple Mint Julip which was a nice refreshing drink and good way to start off my adventure here. On the recommendation of my waitress I got the Street Corn dip. It was pretty good and before I knew it, I ate the entire thing. Next up was Buffalo Chicken Mac N Cheese. It was creamy and flavorful and definitely hit the spot. I wanted to try for dessert but simply didn't have enough room! If you are in Stevens Point, make a stop here. I plan on coming back next time I am in the area to try some of their other menu items and one of their many beers they have on tap. read more

We enjoyed our food. We had burgers, salads, sweet potato fries and cheese curds and ate everything. The server was great and had a nice personality. I think my only complaint is the lighting was too dark. It's a bar/restaurant so you should expect dimmer lighting. I couldn't read the menu which is pretty important. Sure, I could pull out the magnifier on my phone but I didn't and I ended up with a meal that was 2 burgers. Oh well, I ate them both. read more

They are open for seating inside and on back patio, it is not just to go. Large tap menu, something for everyone. Menu is available online and is what they offer. Also they have a summer menu, I've attached a pic. The wait staff is very nice. We order cheesecurds which are very good, but it looks like you don't get much for 8.99, though there were plenty for us. We also order salads. A chicken ceasar w/no dressing or croutons add a hard boiled egg. And also we ordered a buffalo chicken salad, both with grilled chicken. The chicken was a little blackened, otherwise the salads were good both came with a huge chunk if bread. The buffalo came with the mixed greens in it. Though I thought $1.00 for 1 hard boiled eggs was a bit high, they give you a huge dressing for only $0.50 when you ask for a side. Currently it was the only restaurant open that wasn't Italian, which is why we stopped by. We wouldn't go out of our way to go back, but for a bar it is pretty good food . read more

Stoped in for lunch. Normal bar- actually nicely decorated for the Halloween season... They have booths and high tables as well as a nice long bar. Thought the selection of food gave a nice variety to eat.. soups salads burgers sandwiches- fish fry on Friday. Also offered specials. Tried the burger- and patty actually came medium! Nicely cooked with fresh toppings- and hot, crisp fries. Daughter had fried buffalo chicken sandwich... chicken is hand breaded. Nice piece of chicken- not too big. Good buffalo flavor. I came to eat lunch here, so I am only able to comment on the food we ate. We could choose wherever we wanted to sit, and I could see they had booths, tables, and bar seating. I was most interested in their various cheese curds, and based on our friendly server's recommendation, we got the ranch garlic cheese curds. Best decision because they were perfectly seasoned and fried! Our serve also recommended the Guu's GCB burger, which also did not disappoint. Warning: the portions are huge so if you are not a big eater, you might want to share. The GCB burger was split in half and reminded me of a sandwich, but it was seasoned with garlic salt that added a nice salty kick. I can't speak for the drinks, but the food hit the right spot! read more

Walked into Guy's for the first time ever about an hour and a half ago. Had no idea what kind of restaurant it was, no idea what they served. My fiancee wanted to go do we went. Walking in I felt like I was walking into a dive bar, in the best ways imaginable. The waitstaff were friendly and the food was phenomenal. We split an order of Reuben egg rolls and we each had the black and bleu burger. Egg rolls were great, the burgers were great and the fries were thick yet crispy. I've been coming to Guus for drinks since I was in college many moons ago.. but I don't recall that I've ever actually ate food there. I don't live in the SP currently, but I do work here from time to time so I decided to swing in. The waiter was very nice and prompt, the menu looked good, and the food was decently priced. I ordered the Turkey and artichoke dip sandwich with sweet potato fries. The sandwich had good flavor but the bread could of been cooked a smidge longer. The atmosphere the food so much more than I expected. Our server Heather was a doll. The manager Scott super friendly. We ate ahi wontons and spinach dip. In town for a conference and Guu's was recommended as a lunch/dinner place. While most of the attendees were content with the hospitality room, I ventured here. Great beer menu, lots of local stuff from O'So, Central Waters and Point brewery and more. I was excited to get Point's White Stout on nitro, so creamy with hints of white chocolate, delicious. I ordered a grilled cheese. The bartender asked if I wanted tomato on it, I said no but wanted to add bacon. I chose waffle fries as my side. Sandwich came out with tomatoes and no bacon. I didn't want to make a big deal about it since I don't have a food allergy, just don't care for tomatoes in my grilled cheese. Bartender did eventually check in on me and asked how I liked my bacon grilled cheese and noticed the tomatoes. I told her it wasn't a big deal and she didn't charge me for the bacon. Why only 3 stars? I wasn't blown away. Yes I was impressed with the beer menu and the prices are decent but everything else just seemed average. Average is 3 stars. We went there because it was one of the few places open on a Monday. But we left very pleased with what we'd ordered: the Ahi Tuna Nachos (wontons used instead of tortilla chips, a generous amount of ahi tuna, shredded carrots and cabbage, a great dressing) and an Asian salad with grilled chicken. This is a long standing favorite of many locals. They do a nice job of balancing between being a local college bar and a good place to grab a bite to eat. I have lived here long enough and visited Guus often enough over the years to be considered a local and a low volume regular. I am often recognized by the staff, but amazingly am still treated with indifference. Before you think it, I am a generous tipper, even when it is not deserved. 20% or better, every time. I have yet to wrap my head around what the service model is. It appears they generally section off areas for each Server with about 6-7 tables. We have had our share of really bad service and really good service. Unless we win the Server lottery, we typically understand what we are in for. There are about six Servers in general on staff and only two that are any good. You can do the math on what the odds are that the service will be good at any given visit. The bar staff are very inefficient. I have observed five bartenders at a time behind the bar, but no understanding of what their responsibilities may be. They all do everything. That specifically is the problem. As a diner, when you order a drink you have to wait for the Bartender to make your drink for the Server. This is a big disconnect as it is clear that none of them want to take care of the service drinks. It is not uncommon for us to wait 10-15 minutes for a drink when the bar is only partially busy. On one recent visit, we sat at a bar table with a Server who immediately put our drinks in. From my viewpoint I could observe all of actions of the Bartender's. She frequently checked for our drinks and even stood at the end of the bar and waited. The bar staff took quick care of guests who walked up to the bar and ordered a drink. I watched a patron walk in ten minutes after we had placed our drink order, go to the bar, order six drinks for himself and his party and were served while we continued to wait. Unfortunately this is the norm and this was the last straw on this visit. I walked up to our Server who was still standing and the end of the bar waiting, cancelled our drink & entree order, paid for our appetizers which we already received and ate and left. I felt terrible for our Server who is not to blame (and I tipped $5) as she lost an opportunity for a more generous tip. The bar staff again, were indifferent and did not seem to care about what just happened. However, I have to note that one Bartender who did recognize us was very embarrassed and waited for us to walk away before he admonished two of his coworkers. I appreciate it, but too little, too late. As for he food, it really is just okay. There is not one dish that stands out and is what I would consider to be craveable. The mozzarella sticks are pretty good, but they are served with cold marinara. Huh!? Burgers, salads, sandwiches are all really just okay. I do like the Cobb Salad, but it is intermittently on/off the menu with no apparent reason. I will say that they have an obvious infinity for Central Waters Brewing. Majority of the taps are from there so they do have a good selection of local Wisconsin brews and are constantly rotating in new beers. They provide more than one cider on tap as well which is nice to have. At the end of the day, when choosing a place to dine or grab a drink in the area, Guus is no longer high on my list, but I do continue to drag myself in every now and then as a change of pace with the hope that I will win the Server lottery and have a good experience. I love going here when it isn't crazy busy. Their craft beer list is great, and it's very much a local favorite. I have great memories of bringing board games to play and drinking in the booths. I've spent a lot of time reading and having a beer on their front patio in summer. Downside is that they have the same "groove/funk"jam bands constantly and if you want to go out to party at Guu's you can totally count on seeing every single asshole you dislike there.
