Personally I was a little taken aback with the prices: I'm very pro getting my hair trimmed for as little as possible, but the girls I live with were all praising the chatty staff and little details like the way 'the guy got rid of all my split ends'...apparently. My guess is that this is one for the ladies or the very cool/bordering on vain blokes. You're getting an extremely professional cut in a place with cool atmosphere but you're paying for it!

Previously, I had never found a hair salon that could give me the right cut - my hair is frizzy, thick, and gets greasy very quickly. After my flatmate came back with a gorgeous cut from Therapy I had had enough and decided to visit Therapy the very day. They do not take same-day appointments so I was forced to wait for a couple of days, but it was every curl worth the wait! The hairdressers were friendly without being overbearing and transformed my unruly locks into loose, wavy curls I was for once proud to have on my head. The salon is right in the hubbub of the university area and is extremely busy. On the plus side they have great student discounts.

I really like Aveda's weirdly earthy, woody fragrances - and their products are more natural than most used in salons, with up to 95% natural ingredients, according to my stylist. Even the colour is up to 99% naturally derived, so it's less damaging to your hair. The staff seem to be proud to work here, and the salon itself is a relaxing environment in which to spend an hour or so. Some of their stylists specialise in hair for weddings, balls or big nights out - and many have worked as stylists on TV and film productions. They also offer little extras such as free fringe trims between cuts, which is great for regulars. Good city centre salon using more natural products than most - and they even offer a 10% student discount with a valid NUS card.

Fine, very straight hair is always tricky to deal with a lot of hairdressers just try and make it bigger. Doesn't work. With fine hair, if the fringe goes a bit wrong then there is no going back, thinning or tinkering. It needs to be razor straight. So. I couldn't see anymore. I needed a trim. I rang some of the bigger names and some of them refused to trim it, even if I paid, if I hadn't had my hair cut there. Eventually, I gave up, wandered across the road and walked into the first hairdressers I could find. Hair Lounge was a pleasant surprise. It doesn't look much from outside, but inside it is plush and the staff are friendly. I tentatively asked if someone could do my fringe, even though I didn't have my hair cut there, and they were more than happy. I only waited a few minutes and a lovely chap came and got me. He cut my fringe, to my specifications (I know, a hairdresser that listens!) and did it all with a smile. I asked who to pay, and he tried to say there was no charge - so I left a tip. I booked the treatment for today (29/09/12) and had been looking forward to it all week. I live in Wiltshire, about an hour away from Bliss Hair and Beauty and organised my day around the appointment. When I arrived at the salon I was told that my appointment was not registered and that they didn't have time for my massage. I was extremely disappointed as the treatment was very much needed. It was also a waste of a day and the fuel to get there and back. They said that they would refund my groupon voucher small consolation!

Having always been rather curious about experimenting with a fringe, I decided to be spontaneous and get one done. The hairdresser was really friendly and mega complimentary, to the point where I began to wonder why I hadn't invested in a fringe many moons ago. And the salon? Sophistication to the core, dahling. I usually see mollie but I had Marley today who was just as pleasant and did a good job with my hair. I find all the staff here are really nice. There is also a beautician downstairs called Rosie who does a great job too. I totally recommend hush hair.
