What a friendly cafe. The bread here is phenomenal and fresh. I ordered the half sandwich and mug of soup. There's tons of choices for both it was hard to decide! I ended up going with the sourdough bread and egg salad sandwich with tortellini tomato soup. The topping choices and cheese options were all delicious. They have lots of nice coffee and lattes as well as smoothies. There's a cute corner area for kids to play, and it was definitely a friendly, family friendly place to grab lunch. A great coffee shop and bakery with little room for improvement left. They serve coffee, tea, different kinds of cakes, bread and other bakery products. But they also serve sandwiches, soups and other hearty stuff. To sum it up: whenever you go you will find something appropriate for the time of the day. One time we had the "I don't know I'm not sure yet" sandwich which had everything on it they offer and easily feeds two! We also buy our bread hear and they cut the loaf into slices on request at no extra cost. What can be improved? We found ourselves in Cochrane a couple of days ago and happened upon this cafe/bakery. We are suckers for pastries for brunch and went in to look at their offerings. We ended coming out with a bag containing a chicken pie, 2 croissants, a piece of cake for Thanksgiving dessert to share and a coffee. The prices are on par with other bakeries which we find around Calgary - not cheap. We have consumed everything but the chicken pie by now and I can tell you, we would have confidence in anything this place serves. SO GOOD and FRESH! Lots of choice. The cafeteria styled restaurant has good sandwiches, soups and salads with a nice looking bakery, but just not all that impressive. The sandwich ordered was forgettable but what it does have going for it is a place to meet with old friends and over coffee or tea hash over the week's local events. Not much into it, but likely the high rating comes from its social vibe and the standard fare by people who view it as good. Not ever return in a town with so many 4.5 - 5 star venues to check out. Recently took my four year old daughter for lunch to Guy's and what a great experience. Guy is so great with the kids. Just take a look around when you first walk in and there are pictures that kids have drawn everywhere. The food was fresh and man so tasty. I ordered the Montreal Smoked meat which tasted exactly like the real deal from Montreal stacked thick. My daughter had grilled cheese which Guy cut into triangles for her. The soup we had was fresh and made in store and so delicious. My daughter liked the place so much she wanted to draw Guy a picture right there, which he took the time from a busy rush to cone out from the back and find a special place for it on the wall. I see other less than positive reviews on here: simply don't listen to them as they are not accurate. Food is fresh, made to order and delicious and Guy is great with his staff and customers. Haven't tried the food yet and it doesn't matter. The man in the kitchen is so rude to the female staff I am uncomfortable even staying in the restaurant to wait for my order. To berate other workers is wrong, to do it in front of customers is a recipe for going under. Guys cafe is right. Clearly only male staff are welcome to work here. read more

We were in Cochrane for the morning and were searching out a place for soup and a sandwich for lunch. Guys Cafe was bustling and had offered about 10 different soups and a whole variety of made to order sandwiches so we thought we hit the jackpot. Everything was perfect until I received my sandwich. I had ordered a turkey with all the fixins' on sourdough. The bread was stale - I mean take a bite take a drink and really hard on the top of the bread stale. After half a sandwich I couldn't stand it any longer and brought it back to the counter to switch out the bread. They took it back to the open kitchen where I heard the sandwich preparer griping that sourdough bread is a dense bread and I clearly didn't know what i was talking about. For the record, the rye bread that replaced the sourdough was fresh and delicious. I lived in the SF Bay area for the majority of my life. I have probably eaten more sourdough bread than most people on the planet. I know what sourdough tastes like and I also know when cut bread has been exposed too long to the air. Just a suggestion, if you are going to be an ignorant bitch, do it out of your customer's ear shot. read more

First, the good stuff ... parking is good, the food is good, desserts are good, the coffee is good, and the menu has a lot of selections ... it's one of those systems where you line up, order and pay right off the bat, which is fine ... there was a bit of a lunch lineup, so I would recommend you go early, say, at 11:30 ... but the main thing is, it's healthy, good quality food, and, while they appear to be under-staffed, they do their best to get everyone served quickly ... however, I noticed that people waiting for "to go" orders had to stand for a long time -- maybe they don't get priority? ... now to the other side of the coin ... an unfortunate incident I witnessed: a senior got tossed by the owner, because he appeared to have forgotten, or didn't have, his proof of vaxx ... not only that, but it was done in an unprofessional and amateurish way, that kind of stunned the customers who looked on ... the senior insisted he had his shots, but this made no diff, the guy literally tossed him out ... the whole thing could have been handled much better IMO, much more professionally ... I've been going to restaurants since I was 5 years old, and I've never seen such a poorly handled sitch ... for that reason, I doubt I will ever go back ... this guy can go from friendly, to adversarial at the drop of a hat! ... and nobody needs that in their life ... too bad, because the food/coffee/desserts were great ... read more

Amazing selection of food! The Lemon Cake is to die for! The drinks are served in ceramic mugs and they are happy to oblige when you need a to-go cup. Guy is always walking around, joking with the customers. No problem finding a seat- Although the line can be a bit tedious at times. I have been looking for a different kind of cafe/restaurant and I came upon this gem of a place. I ordered a simple BLT or so I thought. Wow, everything was fresh, juicy and full of flavour. The bread melted in my mouth, bacon was crispy and the tomatoes were bright red. I had a mocha to wash it down. Again wow. Smooth, strong tasting but not overpowering just perfect. The fresh bread is amazing, the food we had was spectacular, and the atmosphere is wonderful. All of the staff were friendly and fun, and sincerely seemed to enjoy their work.
