The employees that greeted us on arrival were very friendly and pleasant, and were always helpful throughout our stay. My room was on the third floor, and had a nice view of some green space, and the river behind it. The room was decent size, and very clean. The bathroom was very modern, and there was a nice sitting area with couch and chair, and a desk to sit at and work on the computer. We did not have time to take advantage of the pool/sauna/services, but did get to eat at the on site Restaurant the first night. The common areas and dining areas were warm and cozy. The food was excellent. We started with creamed smoked trout soup, and it was superb. Next was a salad course and fresh bread. I really like the field greens in this area of Germany. For dinner was a steak with pepper cream sauce, cooked perfectly mid-rare, followed by pancakes with apple ragout and ice cream for desert. What a great meal to wrap up a long day of travel! Every morning there was a typical German breakfast buffet in the dining area. Lots of sliced meats and cheeses, fruits, eggs, bacon, yogurt, grains, breads, and juices. Great way to start each morning, and was always tasty. Hotel Lamm was an enjoyable experience, definitely worthy of 5 stars, and comes with my highest recommendation.

When…read morechecking in, Isabell who was working the front desk noticed that I was celebrating my birthday(a big one!) the next day. The staff made sure to make my birthday special in many ways. On my birthday, Mr Sablottni, the restaurant manager, greeted me with birthday wishes and seated us in a private room for my birthday breakfast. A very decadent chocolate birthday cake was delivered to me during our breakfast. Later, champagne & cake was delivered to our room for us to enjoy on our spacious balcony overlooking the city of Baden Baden. During our stay, all of the staff went out of their way to help us with directions, recommendations, and reservations. I was very pleased with our hotel room which was spacious and updated. The hotel's location is convenient for walking to restaurants and shops in Baden Baden. We have stayed in many luxury hotels and the Dorint in Baden Baden is my favorite!

First morning I couldn't use navigation in rented car, man from the front desk came out and set it up. Right now I'm watching old Russian couple at the breakfast. Hotel sent Russian speaking guy to help them to make sure they are comfortable. Unbelievable! This place keep surprising me with level of comfort and how clean and well organized everything is here. All little details are done with love and smart way for customers. Bedding is hypoallergenic and comfortable. My room has beautiful view and a little balcony. I enjoyed pool, spa and face&body massage. Katrin is very professional and polite. Spa area is spotless also. Everyone I met outside was friendly, helpful and not irritated by tourists. This review is for our 5-day stay back in 2012... Yeah, I kept saying I'd get around to it…read more Landhotel Salmen is a small-ish guesthouse, a few miles outside Oberkirch. (You almost certainly need a GPS to find it; ours was on the fritz.) It's family-run, in the best way: Everyone cares about making you happy, and they go out of their way to find out what you need. The guy at the front desk offered to loan us his own GPS, for instance, while we were trying to figure out how to fix ours. In addition to the breakfast that was included (nothing "wow" by German standards, though I remember it fondly), the kitchen also makes a good traditional dinner, and plenty of locals stop by. Next door is a kirsch distillery, which means you can do some taste-testing and stumble back to your room a little drunkenly. (Also with a few bottles to take home.) The price was more than reasonable, too. When we get back to the area again, it's going to be our first choice.

Great comfortable bed but the place has some issues & is a little dated. Includes an excellent breakfast with fresh bread, hot boiled eggs & a selection of deli meats & cheeses, jams, etc. Parking was free & had ample spots available. Absolutely no issue with safety at all. Owner & family were excellent & very polite. Our room was nice as I mentioned but the carpet & decor were very 1980ish. There was some mold in the shower & some of the rooms were under construction (will likely be better in the future). The toilet seat was loose & I kept slipping off! With these corrections this could easily move to a 5-Star Hotel!

Because of this, the Mummelsee was only a sign indicating a parking lot that we managed to glimpse on the side of the road. Relieved to get off the road, we decided to stop here for our requisite Black Forest cake. Let me start by saying that this hotel is a very cozy place to relax if stuck in the Black Forest during bad weather. Even though the views were of nothing but white, the restaurant was very comfortable. However, do not eat here if you are in anything resembling a hurry. Lunch for three with dessert managed to eat up two hours of our day. I'm not sure how much of this is cultural and how much is the restaurant, but everyone here moves SLOOOOOWLY. When there is nothing better to do, it's not a big deal, but if we had actually had a day with good weather, I would have been very frustrated. That said, the food was worth stopping for. It is classic German cuisine done well. I was particularly thrilled to get schmalz and dark bread as a starter. Kid was very excited to eat spaetzle with gravy. "It's like noodles!" Husband and I ordered rather blindly, as the server didn't offer us a menu in English (which I saw later that they did have), and our guesses worked out well. It was an altogether pleasant meal topped off with a really outstanding Black Forest cake. If you need a place to stop just to check that particular item off of your tourist list, this is a great place to do it. Another good reason to stop is the excellent store below the restaurant. They have all sorts of Black Forest treats to take with you. We left with a BF ham, a kirchwasser salami, and a bottle of schnapps. Yum. So even if you never actually get to see the view, I would still recommend this as a stop on your Black Forest drive...who knows, the lake actually might be pretty, too!

Atmosphere: the restaurant has a very welcoming appearance. There is ample seating for various size parties. There is even a children's play area near the front of the cafe. The large windows/doors open onto a wonderful view of Mummelsee, though it was far too foggy the day we visited to see much of it. Staff: the waiter was attentive and ensured we had everything we needed. Unfortunately, one of our party received the wrong order, but the situation was resolved. Food: as we only had coffee and cake, I can only comment on that. It was thoroughly delicious. Please be aware that some of the desserts do have liqueur in them, so double check before ordering them as they may not be what you expect. Overall, this is a very nice cafe to stop at if you're traveling through the Black Forest and need a break to stretch your legs.
