I am so sad I got this experience yesterday I love this spot but lately I just feel like I don't feel the need to come here anymore. I've been coming for yearsss one and off . It just been many misses the past months. I got this time a gel acrylic tip. I asked for short almond with a yellow French tip design. Everything was just so rushed and unorganized. They had so many people come in and they want to attend all but it's only three females working and all shuffling around each other. Literally all three woman did different things to partake in doing my nails and still they came out so bad. I'm not one to complain because I just feel so uncomfortable having to do so but even if I did I couldn't because they had already started working on 5 other people they said yes to while only being 3 workers working ! So I would've needed to wait even longer to get them fixed. My thumbs were two different shapes. And my nails just looked so bad they shaped them in like 4 minutes all my 10 fingers which I feel takes time but they didn't bc they all rushing and just taking on more than they can so my nails were all just not shaped or buffed out and smoothed out at all. Making the shape look so bad from the sides as you can see. And then the paint job was awful! It was so bulky and looking like waves on my nails which you can see in the pictures and especially on the sides how bad it all looks. I left so sad and defeated because I paid $60 for this job and left a tip to make it $70! Just to come home and remove it all. Then the past months I get a gel manicure on my nails very simple manicure of just gel and they start chipping within 5 days never did it use to do that but three times I've gone and that's what I ended up with so it's time for me to just not come here anymore they gone so downhill read more

I'll never come back here. My natural nails were long and a rounded square shaped when I arrived to get them done. I asked to keep this shape and for my nails to only be slightly filed where needed. Instead, they were filed very short and extremely square. They weren't painted to the cuticle either so they looked sloppy and unfinished. I also got my eyebrows waxed, supposedly. There was such a little amount of wax used that I didn't feel any pain at all when the strips were pulled off my face. After the lady told me she was finished, she didn't clean off the excess wax (the little bit of wax that she used didn't come off at all) or use lotion anywhere on my face. As a matter of fact, she didn't even show me a mirror to check out my brows and walked out of the room almost immediately after she was "done." Once I got home and looked at my eyebrows closely in a mirror with better lighting, I realized that I just paid for a service I technically didn't receive. My eyebrows looked almost exactly the same as they had before I went to this salon. I was in somewhat of a hurry so I didn't realize just how disastrous everything was, on top of the lack of professionalism. The prices are pretty average/on the lower end but even with those prices, you don't get what you pay for. I do not recommend this place. read more

Don't underestimate this no frill nail salon. I found this place through Yelp and chose to get my nails done here in Greenpoint even though I live in Williamsburg because I liked how natural the tips looked in the review photos. I booked an appointment for next day easily over the phone. I got my nails done by Sunny and she was great! Very fast service and affordable. I did gel tips with a heart on each finger and it was $55. The only issue I had was she did rush at the end so some of the hearts are little off center because people kept walking in and calling in for appointments. They were super busy on the Saturday I was here so make sure to book a time because walk ins had to wait nearly an hour and I was surprised they actually did wait. Just goes to show that regulars are loyal to this nail salon. This was my first time here and I would definitely come back! read more

I came in here on a whim as my usual salon was booked for the evening. Yelp led me to this very humble establishment. I'm glad it did! For the record, you are certainly not paying for the decor, ambience or luxurious service. If you want a solid mani and pedi, without the fancy vibe, come here. My lady was extremely attentive, took her time and gave an excellent foot and hand massage. She didn't skimp on her service whatsoever which is why I left a hefty tip. A mani and pedi will only cost you $25 here which is half the price of what I would have paid elsewhere!! I've been coming here since they opened and I'm a fan of nail art. I've also been to a few nail places in Greenpoint who would not deliver this kind of precision and artistry for a client or for that matter for this affordable price! I can see why she has clients booking appointments on a weekly basis. I'm relieved they're not charging Manhattan prices and that this is a calm quiet place to relax and unwind. A massage to boot doesn't hurt either. I also couldn't help but notice that they also have a frame of potential nail art you could choose from but I'm happy to note that they also take ideas (I showed Sunny the pic from Instagram and unlike other places in this neighborhood she dove right in - check out the 110% she gave). I have to say I caught the twist on the french manicure on the nail art wall with light pink and red trim and I know what I'm doing next. By the way, you can't go wrong with their pedis, because they rub hot stones against your calves along with the water and its as though you just discovered a new level to the word 'relaxation'. Horrible nail service and unsanitary. BEWARE. I walk in to do my nails for SNS powder. My nail tech began to do my nails. I notice all the employees have gloves but not her. Her co worker notices my look and tells my nail tech in another language to go put on gloves. She does this with hesitation and washes her hands in the foot spa chair before applying gloves. ABSOLUTELY FUCKING DISGUSTING. Then, I asked for a lavender SNS color. The nail tech told me they didn't have any purples. I ended up choosing a creamy white color. The nail tech put literally only 2 coats where it was barely noticeable. I asked her if she can make it darker. She said ok. Then I see her reach for the final coat gel. I ask her again are we done? Is this the final color? She says yes and looks confused. I get the guy who works there to explain to the nail tech that the nail model looked darker and on my nails it looks like there's barely any nail polish/powder. He tells me the nail models look always darker. Already annoyed, I ended up saying ok and picking a white color because I am a person that doesn't really like to complain. He gets me a white powder. The nail tech begins to do my nails. This time she does it aggressively and cutting my skin. Doesn't even apologize. After she finishes applying nail color I see there's red marks on my nails. I tell her to wipe it off and she looks confused then tells me she doesn't see anything. Another employee comes over and tells her there are red marks and now she needs to apply a white based gel as a add on. Already frustrated I tell her I'm not paying for this. They tell me no worries you don't pay. The nail tech ends up doing this gel to a point my nails feel heavy and hurting from all the damage, removing, and addings. You get what you pay for here. Good for a quick, cheap paint job. The good: great price, can't beat a $25 mani/pedi. The pedicure is good--massage, scrub, hot stone, the works. Very friendly staff. Use the plastic in the pedicure sink, which feels cleaner. The bad: not a great color selection. No frills. Struggled for ten minutes to get my shoes on with wet nails and no one came over the help. Woof. Still sitting here in the salon and can't wait for these claws to dry so I can gtfo. Experience was so bad I'm writing review rn! This place is def no frills like others have said, which doesn't bother me, but when the massage chair is broken I'm not down. It'd be one thing if it weren't functioning at all but it'd turn on intermittently, leaving one sharp spike in my back. There was no way of "flattening it out". The woman doing my nails cut me at least 2x. I know it happens but it was a result of her roughness and she totally didn't acknowledge that she even did it. I've never bled before during a manicure--way too rough. The cherry on top was the manicurist used a cuticle stick to sop up part of my cut, proceeded to clean it with water and then put it back in her kit. I wouldn't recommend this place at all. The only redeeming quality is that they have a pretty good color selection, but that's it. Came in hoping for a relaxing time and am not only leaving in a less chill state, I am also leaving wondering if I should go get tested immediately for some crazy disease after seeing the woman put that bloody stick back! read more

As far as how my nails look and the level of attention given to my hands, I would definitely give 4.5/5 stars. The prices make it affordable to go regularly, but the pain involved doesn't! She was pretty rough with my cuticles. I left with three cut fingers and some blood leaking from both thumbs. I didn't even think my hand cuticles were that bad and I'm pretty OCD about them. The fact that my cuticles and sides of my fingers were cut or bleeding in addition to my concern for hygiene here makes me reluctant to return. read more

Would probably have given a 5-stars had I gotten Sunny as my technician since the beginning. I called in to make an appointment but didn't specifically requested for anyone since it's my first time and I wanted to see how they'd do things. I got in and was seated with a lady and as she started working, I already knew that she wouldn't be that great but she did say that she's only prepping my nails and Sunny will be coming to shape and paint them, which I was happy about. At this point she already scraps my cuticle in two different spots and it was hurting, as well as the side of my pointy finger too as I think she over-filed it. (You can see the cut in my photo) Turn out Sunny came and work on my nails for a bit and I could tell she knows what she's doing but unfortunately she has a lot of customers and couldn't do my nails for me (which I totally understand since I didn't requested for her during the appointment and seem like the other ladies are her regulars). With my high school level Chinese, I could tell she was explaining to the first lady what I told her I wanted. Just to be sure I showed her a reference photo on my phone of the shape that I want so there would be no more miscommunications. When she finished my left hand I looked at it and went like "Is this going to be the final shape?" like literally I was TOO SHOOK, confused, and kinda UPSET. All my nails we DIFFERENT SHAPES like just how??? Not matching the photo but to manage to get one more square, one pointy and one rounded. At this point I wasn't having it and I expressed my unsatisfactory with her shaping (and rough works that I did not mention to them). Sunny overheard us and asked if I can wait for her and she will take care of my nails, and I was super down for that option. I waited for a solid 30 minutes but it was so-so-soooo worth it. Sunny did an amazing job with the shape and painting. She is so clearly detail oriented since the first second she started working with my nails. She kept apologizing for the wait (which was not her fault) and also to my cuticle that she saw was bleeding :( She even fixed the bad work of the lady from my previous fill without me asking, which was amazing (the other lady did such a bad job which is why i had to come searching for a new nail spot). Because I am lazy person in a long term, committed relationship, I've reached the level of said relationship where I've begun to take it easy with the primping. And because of this, my toenails have suffered. I let my pedicures last way longer than intended because Greenpoint doesn't have a very good selection of no frills nail salons within a three block radius of my apartment (I told you I'm lazy). There's a sprinkling of day spas that make me feel weird when I go there, and a couple of sketchy looking nail salons where the chairs are crisp with the stench of asses that have sat before you. I was excited to see H & Q when it opened a few months ago. A new nail salon where everything is shiny and new! and it's right across the street from Peter Pan, so I can indulge myself in some donuts and then pamper my fat ass with a mani pedi! The prices are relatively decent for a no frills nail salon - $10 for a basic manicure; $20 for a pedicure seems like a steal, especially when my claw toes are involved. They have a good selection of colors and real brands, and the ladies who work there work quick and do a great job. One thing though, the weekends can get super busy and waiting can be a pain (duh). I've seen other nail salons offer early-in-the-week mani pedi specials; but as far as I know, H & Q doesn't do this but it'd be a good incentive to go during the week. read more

I'd give zero stars if I could. Was getting a pedicure and the woman used a metal grater (which are illegal) on the side of my toe. She SHREDDED my skin and caused a deep cut on the side of my toe. She brushed off the fact that I was profusely bleeding all over and made no attempt at any real first aid. The owner did not offer me any compensation and made me pay full price for this nightmare ($54 gel pedicure before tip, which I did not).
